Name: Nala Biting-Lance Rand
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Faction: Outsider Mage

Personality: Mellow and calm in her daily life, Nala is rarely the first to speak. When she does speak, the words have been predetermined, and the structure is both brief and pointed. Before she acts, she observes with a cautious eye. Her behavior is bound beneath a set of conduct laws. They are courage (which is to behave without fear of man), wisdom (which is to understand what action best fits a scenario), and kindness (which is to act with the intention of bettering one’s fellow man). While the virtues she seeks are far beyond her, since Nala is impatient and has a thirst for discovery, Nala holds herself accountable to them.

Bio: Parents were nobility, but they left their station to become outsiders due to Nala being born a mage. While the father, a luminosity knight, chained to his daughter the collar, it was used primarily as a tool to make her use her magic for good. Much of her childhood was spent with only her father, mother, and younger brother hunting along the outside lands until at last they found the Outsider’s city. Her brother joined a gang, the CharHornets, and Nala was only spared the temptation by her father, who restricted his mage daughter with a heavy hand. It was only because she rarely left the home, and only healed for the CharHornet boss that Nala did not see the horrors her brother did. She saw the haunting in his eyes instead, and the tightening of his inner being, now closed to her by a hardened shell. Her father saw fit to train her body in order to discipline her mind and magic, and so she learned the way of the lance in a small room, and how to carry herself and armor in a way befitting a Luminosity knight.
Her father has recently died of sickness, and her mother married another man. Nala remains a servant of the CharHornet leader, and is still used to heal his gang members. Now, however, the gang wants her assistance in torturing his enemies.

Stats:
STR: 6
AGI: 8
PER: 7
INT: 9
WIS: 6
CHA: 4

Spells: Healing (of minor wounds. It would take her a day of constant rest and spellcasting to heal a broken arm, for instance), Heal Poison (purges poison from the body -- the catch is that she must be able to recognize the poisonous substance, or have a purified version of it on hand), Restore Strength (she restores strength to the person’s limbs and removes aches and pains. The spell simulates a well-rested body, but the spell only prolongs the effects of still-building fatigue)
Skills/Techniques: Wrestling, Spear fighting, Armor and Weapon upkeep
Combat strategy: She likes to go right for the neck or the heart. She would not be comfortable with incorporating magic into her fighting style.
Equipment: Thin-tipped spear, iron pauldrons and gauntlets, chainmail, chestplate and greaves, which have been modified from her father’s armor to fit her. She also carries a hand-and-a-half sword that her father did not teach her to use, and a round buckler shield.
Question: Where do we put our completed CSes? Some GMs like it differently.
Also: Are women allowed? In medieval times woman would sneak into military/guard roles.

BRO women would fight if need be and no one would bat an eye pre-1300s. It really depends on the time period.

IE: Order of the Hatchet.

For the most part, people actually didnt want to die on the battlefield though.
I've had a vision for a short story that talks about the varying versions of reality and how the variance in individual perspective causes division in understanding. So, a place to test my prose and kuz I'd love to see multiple takes on that theme, how about a theme as vaguely termed as "reality?"
:/

Does this happen a lot with rps around here? Newbie here and the last 2 I was watching turned out like this too...
Looking forward to your next post, good sir. This has been a joy to read all through, and a barrel of laughs to boot. C:
Great answers all around, thanks C:

For religion, how about the outsiders? Do they hold to any religious beliefs or are they so scattered that we have leave to create whatever religious thought we desire?
I don't think American Style Freedom™ is synonymous with mob rule...

I don't think it is either. I think it is synonymous with representative rule, an indirect form of mob rule in which the government represents the people, and hopefully retains an awareness that this is its function, to work out the will of the people.

A government made of the people, by the people, for the people, after all, ought not oppose the people.

But if you want to turn this from "The Government of South Carolina behaving poorly" to "The people of South Carolina are behaving poorly.", than whatever floats your boat I guess. If it makes you feel like you got tons of American Style Freedom™ everywhere, go for it.

Dat dry wit tho

I'm not purporting a need to feel good by pointing fingers at the culprit I desire to; if you think I am, you've misunderstood for a reason I do not understand. Perhaps I've worded my post in a duplicitous manner. I meant to address the implied policy that seems to lie beneath the discussion here, which is whether the flag should be an unlawful item. The fact that a government uses it to represent itself and has done so for upwards of a hundred years is a point of contention now. It has been a point of contention, too. This was brought up decades ago.

That was why the governmental role was and is relevant; the government which represents the people should not defy the people even if the wishes of the government appear benevolent. I'm only meaning to say that in resolving this issue, the people of South Carolina ought to be the deciders.

The people should have the right to decide what represents them.

Making this about racism or popular perception thereof is just running down a rabbit's hole, I think. This isn't and shouldn't be about how the rest of America views the confederate flag. It should be about whether South Carolina wants the flag to represent them. We should be listening to what they think right now, not what we (provided we are not south carolinans) think.
Not sure if you saw my other questions, but no matter; I'll make a list here.

1) If a mage is born to an high ranked official (perhaps a luminosity knight), and raised to use only healing magic, would they still have a collar? Is there any situation in which a mage wouldn't have a collar and be accepted into Altean society?

2) Are the Lumes a religious order of knighthood? If so, could we use writings on the knights templar to augment our understanding of their culture? IE: http://www.the-orb.net/encyclop/religion/monastic/bernard.html

3) Is being healed by a mage considered taboo? Are there any medical alternatives to magic and how advanced are they?

4) I couldn't find anything on religion in the tabs, and was wondering how religion functioned in Altea. Is it a political force? A cultural phenomenon? Is it a faith or a science or a warrior ethic? Polytheistic, monotheistic, etc?
It is not poor behavior from a state government. The people are having their voices heard by the government and they are in majority-lead support of flying the flag. The government's decisions do well to represent the people they serve. The government itself ought follow what the people desire and not what the government wants the people to desire.

The government should be the last thing to change; the people should direct that change, lest this country ceases to retain the American style of freedom.
Also, @Laue at what age does magical ability become apparent and how does it mature?
