Eldora Project: The Drifter's Demise

Alternate universes has become quite common since the discovery of Eldora Project. Although it was no secret knowledge that alternate universes exist in a different dimensional planes than that of where humans exist, the restriction of moving strictly in three dimension deemed them to perceive these multiverses almost quite impossible. But through the Drift, a device invented by a group of scientists, an individual is granted to plug in his consciousness, recalibrate the consciousness into a precise frequency, and then recreate a temporary vessel, an avatar, that meets a universe's requirements in order for him to traverse it in a relatively safe way.

Ideally, the goal of Eldora Project is only to discover what lies in these universes, and use it to further improve human's way of living. But at some point in the project, things got a little shady. The knowledge of the project captured the attention of several underground personalities, and some even managed to acquire illegal and unevaluated Drifts. Huge syndicates started to reproduce the leaked Drifts and sold them at high prices in the black market.

Due to the faulty products, some palpable issues started to arise. Some people who had managed to get their hands on the illegal Drifts started to experience problems. Majority of the number of affected individuals seem to have a notable change in their psychological states, most of them acquired psychological disorders ranging from clinical depression, insomnia, and certain personality issues (ocd, bipolar to mild cases of schizophrenia), after the use of the said devices. But some serious cases were reported that even physiological change occurred to a certain number of individuals.

There are speculations spreading around the scientific community that the supposedly one-way function of the Drift has been voided, that a foreign element from the multiverse had managed to hijack these individuals mind and body. The creators of the Drift believes that these individuals' consciousness still exist somewhere in those dimensions, somehow trapped in their avatars, and the only way to save them is to send people to those alternate universes to retrieve them and put them back on their original bodies. But the process will not be so easy.

First, they need to subdue the affected individual in order to put it on the Drift. This is where the real problem lies, since supposing the hijacker liked his new body, some may put on a fight. Depending on the level of affinity the hijacker had with the individual's mind and body, some may have retained their special abilities from their respective universes making them a serious threat to the public. But once the body is subdued however, it is only a matter of extracting the foreign 'being' from the body through the Drift and then guiding the original person's consciousness back to his body.

The Drifters is a special team formed to handle cases of the misuse of illegal Drifts. Though they are not known publicly, they are neither a secret group. People only knew them by name, but knew nothing of what they do. They basically track down people who owns unauthorized Drifts, and handle the problem before it gets out of hand. They also handle cases of individuals whose been 'hijacked', and get them fixed if possible. Rumors say that the team are also hijacked in some way, that the government grants them permission to do so however scientifically unethical it may seem.

Note: We're all playing as a member of the Drifters. Drifters has a Level II affinity with their Hijacker, which means they still have 70% of their original self, and 30% of the hijacker from a universe which may include some their abilities. The member is still in charge of the body, having the hijacker inside their head as a separate individual lending them their abilities whenever they require them to. This in contrast to the affected individuals who used illegal Drifts, since they are 100% hijacked, and have no control over their bodies (the hijacker is in control).

Name: Nicholas Abrahms a.k.a. Silvertongue

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Role: Drifter

Name of Hijacker: Mortimer Folchart

Universe: Inkheart

Ability/Power: He has the ability to bring fictional objects and characters to life in the "real world" by reading them aloud from books or from any written materials. Sometimes he can also bring certain circumstances (a change in the weather, or in the season, or on very rare cases, a time shift) from a book to life. All of these are possible with the condition that when he brings something from the world of fiction, something of the same value is taken from the real world.

Personality: There's a huge change in the way he acts after he took the part of being a Drifter. he became quite reserved, and a little detached towards people. The only thing he seem to pay attention now are his books. His love for books went from being fond to someone who urgently and constantly needed them, which led into a frequent book hoarding spree. This aside, he seems to be his usual sharp and philosophical self on most good days.

Background: Nicholas grew up in a wealthy family. At a very young age, Nicholas was exposed to the vast world of fiction, which he came to love almost immediately. As a child, he lived at the family's ancestral house northwest of Sicily. But when he got to college, he decided to move to England to fulfill his dream of becoming a writer.

Along with a few friends, he started his own small publishing firm in Italy right after he graduated college. A huge portion of his enormous trust fund went mostly to his firm and his career on writing which both proved to be a success. Soon he was able to published his very first book, which became a hit a few months after the book was released. At this time, he met with Robert Bright, one of the founders of Eldora Project. As soon as the old scientist told him of what he does, Nicholas got instantly interested and even offered him fundings for the project, which the scientist accepted politely.

Nicholas witnessed the project's progress. And so when things got slightly out of hand, he didnt offered yet another help to his old friend. He volunteered himself to become a Drifter, changing the course of his life forever by allowing someone from the multiverse to live at a certain portion of his mind.

Name: Dea Noel aka Spark

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Appearance:

Role: Drifter

Name of Hijacker: Elle Bishop

Universe: Heroes

Ability/Power: She has the ability to generate and manipulate electricity to her will. Some uses of her ability include using electricity on a flammable object to create fire, send powerful bolts of electricity through her opponent's body, and powering up an electric device. She has a good grasp on her ability, but is still subject to such limitations like: she cannot use her ability when covered in water as she will shock herself; she cannot use her ability in a magnetic field; her ability gets out of control when she's angry, panicked, or experiencing some other intense emotion.

Personality: Dea began to suffer malapropism after she became a Drifter. Her temper has become shorter after becoming a Drifter and almost anything can tick her off. She's usually personable and nice when you're not doing something that can rub her the wrong way. She's independent, brave, and stubborn, and these hasn't and probably never will change.

Background: Dea grew up as an orphan, bouncing from foster home to foster home. She'd learned to become independent and thrifty at a young age, and was known for her streetsmarts. This also meant that she often got involved in shady activities and was a frequent patron of juvie.

When she was seventeen, she ran away from her foster home, where the father was an abusive drunkard, and joined a gang of delinquents. From those gangs of delinquents, she moved to work for a local drug syndicate overlord. While never having done drugs herself, she sold them to people in order to earn some extra cash. She continued to live this kind of lifestyle until one day when she was nineteen and she saved up enough money for herself. She ran away from the life of crime and searched for her second chance.

She worked as an assistant for a photographer for two years before her previous gang found her again. They abducted her and made her participate in an illegal version of the Eldora Project. Their device was faulty, and Dea suffered some psychological damage. The gang found no more use of her and attempted to dispose of her. That was when she discovered that she'd been Hijacked by someone from another universe. The government soon found her and offered her a chance to help by becoming a Drifter. Intent on getting revenge, she agreed.
