Name: Thassa
Species: Ekans
Gender: Female
Ability: Shed Skin
Moves:
Poison Sting
Bite
Scary Face
---------

Bio:

Thassa, who ventured away from her parents nearly at birth, made it all of about two weeks on her own before she was cornered while trying to raid an unidentified burrow for eggs. There, she found herself cornered by an appropriately enraged mother Sandslash. She didn’t try to act tough – she begged for mercy, without recourse after all. Lona – that was the Sandslash’s name, as she would learn – spared her in the end, but didn’t simply let her leave. She kept Thassa in that burrow, and she raised her out of a strange sort of pity, fed her and read to her but kept her away from her own young until they were big enough to defend themselves.

Only then, after the first year, did Lona allow her quasi-prisoner to emerge from that burrow. She was allowed to play with the others – the brothers Lantenel, Yunkai, and Konten. By then she was bigger than they, stronger too, but disputes were always one-sided: Thassa was handled punitively the first time she bit one of her… for lack of a better word, brothers, and after that she never challenged them. She was always last in line, but in a way, it was better than being alone. She… learned to love them, to think of them as her family, and over time the tensions eased as even Lona ceased to think of her as a threat.

For the next year, things went with relative harmony! She grew protective of her brothers, and in time she began to refer to Lona as her mother. But Thassa was growing at an alarming rate, too, and her appetite grew with it. Her diet of berries (supplemented with the occasional egg for vital protein) had become far too lean, and although her nature was no secret, Lona refused to kill for her. The incessant, gnawing hunger began to keep her awake at night, and she always looked a little too long at the smaller creatures that visited the burrow. It’d begun making folks uncomfortable… and surely, not without reason.

When it finally happened, when a small pidgey landed far too close to her restive form hidden in the grass, things changed. Her family watched in horrid fascination as the thing struggled, those slender fangs buried all too deep in its breast, feathers and streaks of blood plastering Thassa’s snout as her prey slowly grew still and finally slipped down her throat… None of them quite looked at her the same after that. Some of the family’s smaller friends stopped coming around, too.

Over the next three months she learned to hunt and to feed herself, and her family grew increasingly uncomfortable with it. She couldn’t talk to them about the thrill of the hunt, as she had certainly learned to enjoy it, and that bothered them just as much as the necessity. Confident that she would finally be able to take care of herself, Thassa finally decided to leave, to strike out on her own. She left the burrow on the Sunswept Plains in good standing with her family, and was soon drawn to nearby Treasure Town to seek her fortune! …She still maintains contact with Lona and her brothers, visiting them periodically, and has presently moved into an old abandoned burrow on the outskirts of town. It’s a very nice burrow. Lantenel helped her dig it a little deeper and fix it up – nothing like a sandshrew to help shore up a good solid hole in the ground.

Appearance:

Thassa is a little different from the average Ekans. She’s a solid seven feet in length [to the average 6’07”], with the girth to match, scales that are dark like a bruise, and her eyes are pools of Merlot ‘round the narrow black iris. Starting just behind the head her neck is covered with mangy tufts of black fur, reminiscent of her father’s, which she typically has a hell of a time keeping clean.

Differences:

Her Hydreigon father’s blood runs a little too strong in her veins. This is the cause of her… abnormal appearance, and gives her access to Scary Face. This does not give her access to the Dragon subtype or any associated moves.

What do you mean you don't know? ...Let's find out!

Feuertanz, Quilava, Male

Personality: Spirited, brazen and gregarious, but timid if backed into a corner.
Motivation: The joy of discovery!
Biography: Tanz (tants) is a disenfranchised youth with nothing to lose and the world to gain. He was born into a family of metalworkers in Sabiland before the conquest. The formative years of his youth were spent helping his father out around the shop, fetching and stoking the fires and quenching steel...
The old man's reasoning was that if he was old enough to lift a hammer and work the bellows, he was old enough to work the forge! ...Oh, sure, it was dangerous for a child. He got hurt sometimes, but his father said it was good for him!

As much as Tanze liked helping his father on the forge, it wasn't the life for him. He was sent away at a young age to Schwarzenburg to study magic. At first, it was an awful experience. He was rejected from both the academy and the clergy the first season. When he failed the entrance exam at Schwarzenburg Academy the second time, he found himself at a loss - broke now, a three day journey from home (the furthest he'd ever been!) and faced with failure. A couple of days later he was found slumped in the rain on the steps of the same chapel that had turned him away. The Seer there fed him, promised him shelter for the night, and quietly watched his behavior.

The next day, he didn't leave. Feuertanz was put to work a little after first light. First he swept the floors, then he played gopher for the Speaker for a couple of hours - fetching this, or that, and then he was given a little silver candelabra on a chain of gold. His studies would begin at sunset.

Skills/Abilities: His greatest skill is his ability to purge disease poison from another's body, close bleeding wounds, and encourage the regeneration of damaged tissue. He can't instantly cure an injury, but he can help set a patient on a strong road to recovery with a mixture of magic and mundane tinctures.
As must be expected, he also has a decent understanding of how to work metal. Oh, and he can read and write both in common and in German. If necessary, it's also very possible that Feuertanz will turn his cleansing fire on an aggressor...
Personal Effects: A golden ring given by his father, a silver candelabra given by the Eye of Anhara, and a pocket-sized
Other: Fuertanzen follows the teachings of Anhara, the spirit of light. It's a teaching that embraces passion and energy, that strength comes from the heart.

Nihonto, Typhlosion, Male

Personality: Swift and deliberate in action, Jovial in person.
Motivation: To carry out the will of his lord, Sakana.
Biography: Nihonto grew up in the tiny but ambitiously named "Grand Principality of Moravia". He was born and raised in the village of Echternach, and for his formative years never ventured more than five or six miles from home. With an impoverished family, who were scarcely able to squeeze a surviving crop out of the unforgiving earth, he learned early on that he would have to earn his keep. After his first evolution, certain... doors opened to him; he found money in places that he is now ashamed to confess.

It was during this time that he met Sakana - then an ambitious Buizel, whose constant fervor convinced him to join the local levy. It was an outfit of no more than a hundred and fifty souls. They signed on together and got put in the batallion - the odds of that were fairly good, there were only three. Each received a spear and a single piece of gold, and were started immediately on their drills. And it continued like this for some time, as Nihonto took home a few precious silver every day and slowly learned to fight.

Eventually, the Grand Principality went to war, joined by a loose coalition of kingdoms that bordered this bend of the Rhine. Their united enemy: The army of Moere. It was with great fear that Nihonto finally accompanied his levy to war; they joined up with the Grand Prince's army and marched under his command; just one in a meager and unruly horde of three thousand men. In due time, the army was destroyed at the battle of Langsur - a last stand for the coalition. Nihonto's own home of Echternach had been burned to the ground during the campaign, and though there was no word of his family, he could only assume nothing remained for him there.
And, for once, the Moere army simply abandoned the territory that they had conquered. The prince was dead, the coalition had been destroyed, and most of the region's wealthiest cities had been burned to the ground.

Sakana, always more spirited than he, rallied the survivors and what stragglers he could find; they know one thing and that was war. So they would continue. They would strike out into the wasteland that had become of their home and carve out a piece of it for themselves. Others had the same idea - for a time the region devolved into bloody civil war and nobody could ever quite remember where the old borders had laid. But by the time it was done, Sakana and his band had secured their dominance over small region that was roughly composed bits and pieces of the old coalition's territories. And then, knowing their time at the top of the heap would only last as long as it took another warlord to rise, Sakana contacted King Veske by runner. The newly forged kingdom voluntarily capitulated to the Moere Empire, securing their own place in the world while offering the Empire a way to extend their control over the region.

As for his personal growth during this conflict, Nihonto learned to survive. He learned to kill. He was knighted when Sakana had secured his place in the world, and during this ceremony he was given an ancient sword that his men had taken from an old family's home during the turmoil...

Skills/Abilities: Excellent swordfighter and martial artist, rudimentary skill with fire magic.
Personal Effects: Nagina, an ancient and enchanted weapon that channels and amplifies his otherwise rather lackluster magic.
Other: He's extremely insecure about Nagina, and never lets the sword leave his sight. He talks to it, and sometimes he wonders if it's trying to answer...
