I am looking for a small group, sizing somewhere between 3-5 in an ideal circumstance. I will treat myself more as a DM/GM in the Dungeons and Dragons sense, where I will mediate and guide the players moreso than interact myself with a personal character. I wish to help create a story, not interpose myself.

That being said, I should finally get to explaining properly.
-

A tale of Thieves [Working Title] will be a modern roleplay, centred in the world's major cities, corporations, and governments. It's the digital age, and the world is full of corporate espionage as well as political scheming. Our tale will revolve around a fledgling group of thieves [Of various skills and talents; Whether you're the oldschool guile and sleight of hand sort or a modern technowhiz is entirely up to you fellows] and their hijinks as they try to carve their own stake in life.

For the most part, I would love for the players to collaborate and work together to create characters and backgrounds, but if issues arise I will handle it in a more D&D esque way and craft methods of character introductions together [most likely via the 'you've been contacted for a job' angle. Typical, eh?]

If you all wish to be stealthy cloak-and-dagger spy types that's alright, I don't care if you all overlap skillsets and abilities and are basically a group of james bond heroes.

...That's all probably a horrible jumble of nonsense, eh?

Long story short...

A thieves tale, a modern adventure of heists and hijinks.

I should make a secondary note of the 'fantasy' tag, I feel.

While not quite Shadowrun [which was a major inspiration], I would like to clarify a bit; No such thing as magic, but stretching the laws of physics is alright.

shotguns with suppressors? Nah, they heard you.

You want to swing off a chandelier and dropkick a guy out a window and stick the landing all while having time to brush your hair and look good while you're at it? [Exaggeration slight] alright that's chill.

Drop lightning out the sky with your mind? ehhh that's not cool.

That's basically the census I reached with myself when thinking up the boundaries. Keep it realistic but feel free to have some fun with it within that category.

Huzzah! Tentative interest garnered!

Well, i'll wait a bit longer to see if anyone else joins the interest bandwagon. Imp'll put up an OOC after school regardless, though- you guys can go ahead and brainstorm ideas and whatnot and collaborate to boot

By fantasy do you also mean including fantasy races?

That would be a severe internal debate @Mr_pink

I was originally leaning towards no, but if folks want to then I can easily go 'shadowrun hell yeah'

I was sort of thinking of a goblin thief, but I'm interested either way.

Would it be taking place in fictional cities, at least?

I don't care if we have the game take place in 'Yew Nork', and is just a cheap stand-in, it's just that I dislike rping in places that exist.

How advanced is the tech in this world? Is it like modern technology, or more futuristic-ish?

It would be more urban and modern than futuristic- the example of 'new york' is certainly an apt example to start in.

Shadowrun was a primary influence, I wholeheartedly admit, so the idea of having other fantastic races is easily adapted to, @Mr_pink, and is certainly not an issue. I just have to broaden my spectrum a bit and adapt for a bit of additional info. Goblins, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, orcs? Sure, I don't have an issue with it.

@Sypherkhode822 - That is something that can be catered to, most definitely. I left a lot of room for me to improvise and create based on player whim and want, so should the census want a freshly made world with new culture and civilization then I'll make one, but give me a little time to do it. If you guys would rather have just 'New York' or 'Chicago' or 'Moscow', then that'd also be fine, but I'd also enjoy using a more hand-crafted world.

@Phaesaris I would say modern rather than futuristic

Of course, if you guys all go 'well shoot phoenix, just do Shadowrun!' then I'll gladly do that and work with Shadowrun's world instead since I'd overlap its setting quite a bit.

However, I'll make up a bit of a rudimentary compromise [that I'd elaborate on later] and see how it all feels to you guys...

I think those cover the important bits I'd need to make up a world and roleplay around you guys' needs.

Feel free to ask or make more suggestions however, as the more you make me do and elaborate on the better the setting will turn out.

There are definitive benefits and drawbacks to both.

1 vote Dog-Eat-Dog

2 votes - Utopian

The dog-eat-dog variety would obviously be an easier time on you guys, I'd be less brutal on retaliations by official means and coming across tools and weaponry and getting jobs done would be easier- but you'd have a lot more underground competition and resistance

Utopian would have less underground resistance- but it'd be more elite, as the government forces would also be escalated to rather oppressive levels. Tools, weaponry, and jobs would be harder to come by and accomplish- but far more satisfying if you're masochistic like that.
