"Dammit Uriah!" Aelystair slammed his fist on the map table and looked at Count Cayne. "The Militant has us to the east and the Dominion has us to the south! Our army is not big enough to handle two fronts anymore! There's get bigger every damn day while ours gets smaller! We need to start dipping into the vaults more. Hammerfell and Skyrim are the Mercenary capitals of Tamriel! I..." Uriah Cayne held up his hand and dismissed Aelystair. He clapped his fist to his armored chest, bowed and left the War Room, his hand gripping the pommel of his sword tightly. He pushed open the door to the Counts Keep and walked into the city of Skingrad.

Gaylia was walking with her face towards the sky, soaking in the warmth of the sun. When she looked back down, she was momentarily blinded and walked right into a man who seemed too lost in his own thoughts to even realize what had happened.
"Pardon me," Gaylia said politely, eyeing the tight grip the man had on his sword.

"Sorry little elf." Aelystair smiled and then took a better look at the Bosmer girl. "I've never seen you around town before, who are you?" he asked, crossing his arms, his smile still plastered to his face.

Gaylia looked at the stranger with hesitant interest.
"People call me Gaylia. I'm just passing through. I heard the DragonTongue in this area was blooming beautifully but the PGC thought I was in their woods to kill. So I'm in the city for the night."

Aelystair nodded. "Sorry about that, my men are a little ... protective. Are you staying at the West Weald?" he nodded to the north, where the Inn was located.

"Not if you and.. your men recommend it," Gaylia said playfully. She realized as she spoke, however, that there was a bit of truth to the statement. Soldiers and sell swords were not the type of people she wanted to be surrounded by.

Aelystair laughed and crossed his arms, "I recommend it as a patron, not a soldier. I'm Aelystair by the way."

"Well Aelystair, It has been a pleasure to meet you, but I think..." Gaylia's words were cut off by the sound of breaking bottles and shouting. A drunk soldier was yelling incoherently and stumbling through the streets, a half full tankard in hand. When he caught sight of Aelystair he threw his arms up in the air and lost balance, falling right on his butt. Gaylia let out a snort and turned back to Aelystair. "I think I should be going."

"Right. As should i. Maybe i'll see you later." he nodded and went to his soldier. Aelystair recognized him as Olfryn Stoneheart, a Nord who had a knack for drinking and killing. He hauled the nord up and pushed him against the wall, summoning flames in his hand and pressing them to Olfryn's face. "You are on duty soldier! A week in the Pits should serve you well." Aelystair said through clenched teeth. He motioned for two guardsmen to haul the drunkard away. He turned to see if Gaylia was still around but she had disappeared. Disappointed, Al walked towards the gates, deciding he wanted to take a ride before nightfall.

Romulus sat casually atop the wall, surveying the area. He had been on duty for quite some time now, probably longer than he should have been, but he didn't mind. Despite the war raging throughout the lands, he seemed to always find himself in these boring situations, but it was better than mucking out the stables. Still, the day was beautiful and the sun was high in the sky, so he had little to complain about. As he thought over these things, he noticed a soldier walking towards the gates, none other than Commander Aelystair Sivaeryl.
"Hail, Commander. Do you have business outside the city, or are you just leaving for your own enjoyment?" he asked.

"Hey Rom. I'm just going for a ride. Shouldnt you have been relieved an hour ago?" Aelystair shielded his eyes from the sun as he looked up to see the Imperial, reclining on the walls. Its not like guard duty had much value in the capital of the Peoples Government of Cyrodiil, no one was stupid enough to attack.

"Two hours ago, actually, but the ever-reliable Olfryn Stoneheart never showed up." Despite his frustration, Romulus grinned, appearing far more casual about it than he actually felt. He was pretty hungry and needed more than anything to stretch his legs, but a bad attitude wouldn't make anything better, nor would it get him off the wall sooner.

"Olfryn earned himself a week in the pits." Aelystair hailed a guardsman and told him to take Romulus' post. "Come on then, you can walk with me." He gestured out of the gates.

Romulus happily obliged, rushing down the wall and joining Aelystair on the outer side of the gates.
"So, I take it you just met with the Count?"he asked casually, "Any updates?"

"Uriah is determined to fight a war on two fronts with just our current forces and hoarding his treasury. We're making no progress in Valenwood, the Khajiit are close to pulling out and closing off their borders. The Dominion is good at fighting on multiple fronts though, unluckily for us. On the bright side, the Militant is struggling just as bad as us. How are things in Skingrad?" Aelystair rested his hand on the hilt of his sword, gazed down the road and then looked at Romulus.

"Quiet. Far too quiet. Many of the soldiers are becoming restless, quite a few disregarding their duties, forgetting to whom their loyalties lie. Olfryn is a shining example of that. It almost seems as if some don't comprehend that a war raging outside of these walls. I have no love of war or bloodshed, and I understand that this is the capital and must be defended, but I feel as if I'm useless here."
Romulus was about to say more, but thought better of it. Though he liked to consider himself Aelystair's friend, he was still far beneath him in rank, and he didn't want to overstep his boundaries by offering him any council on what course of action the PGC should be taking. Instead, he changed the subject.
"Where are we heading out to? Anywhere specific?"

"Not really. Do you have anywhere in mind Rom?" Aelystair asked. He didnt wish for the conversation to end seeing as how he was always the adviser and never the advised.

"How come you can travel the woods freely yet I get reprimanded?" Gaylia emerged from the shadows. She had had every intention of returning to the inn for the night, but curiosity about the soldier had gotten the better of her. She eyed his new companion. There was an air of sophistication around him, and she could tell by his posture next to Aelystair that he wished to impress him. Gaylia smiled with a slow nod and then turned her attention back to Aelystair.

Aelystair drew his sword but quickly lowered it as he saw that the voice belonged to the Bosmer girl from the city. "Well well well. We might just have to lock you in a cell, law breaker." he laughed and sheathed his blade. "Following us, were you?" he asked, playfully raising his eyebrow.

Gaylia smiled but ignored the comment."Where are we headed?" She turned and walked ahead of the two, turning around only to receive an answer.
