Hope's Peak Academy is a unique high school, educating only the best of the best and training them for future success. There are two criteria for admission: you must be of high school age, and you must be the best at what you do. This can be any number of things: alumni range from the Ultimate Detective to the Ultimate Gymnast to the Ultimate Farmer or Gamer. The original school was located in Japan, but in order to further their research of talent, branches in other countries were opened. You are members of the first class of the American branch.

... Or you were supposed to be. However, when you arrived for the first day of class, you passed out as soon as you entered the main building. Now you are trapped in the school with your classmates and a strange bearlike creature who says the only way you can leave is by killing one of your classmates and not getting caught.
