I have recently downloaded a game on my phone called TerraGenesis and I have seriously fallen in love with it, so much so that it's inspired me to try and create a roleplay around the concept of the game. The basics is that you are terraforming inhabitable planets, like Mars, so that humans can live on it. It's based on real life physics but, every now and then, there are cultural events that pop up, which is what the focus of the game will be about.

the plot

2076. Earth is dying. At this point in time, humans have fucked up Earth so much that there's no going back and no efforts to fix the mistakes of past generations are working. The only hope that humanity has is to go beyond the surface of Earth, to go into space. The concept is there: being able to transform planets to cater to the needs of life. It will most likely take centuries but, with dedication, planets can be transformed into paradise. The first few hundred humans that are sent to colonize Mars are intellectuals that know how to terraform a planet. They thicken the atmosphere, raise the water levels, create plant life, and therefore create an atmosphere full of oxygen. It only takes 300 years for humans to walk out of their HabUnits and be able to breath without an oxygen mask.

But now that the planet is suitable for life, the old scourges of life on Earth are starting to appear. Conflicting values cause strife: should the planet be run like a democracy or a plutocracy? Should they focus on conservation or building cities? Should they build as many mines as possible to create an industrial economy or focus on a more ecological, trade-based economy? Wherever humans go, there will always be disagreements, like anti-intellectuals that believe science is just a ploy of government used to control the people. Despite having a new home, people will still create trouble.

The city of Maja was the first settlement on Mars. Being the first, it is hailed for many achievements. A monument of an early lander, a heroic pilot who landed a spacecraft during a dust storm, a unique architecture that is hailed across the planet, an established trade route with other settlements, and even a giant sports stadium. The city is flooded daily with newcomers, whether from a dying planet or a remote outpost, and with these newcomers comes their ideals and problems. Despite being the oldest settlement, elements of Maja resemble the days of the wild west on Earth mixed with advancements from science. People do not want to obey the law, groups spread smear campaigns against the government, terrorists bomb HabUnits because they hate the ideals of indepedence. The northern region of Maja has been overtaken with these scourges, hidden in the shadow of scientific achievements.

the breakdown

It's roughly 300 years after the first wave of scientists left Earth to terraform Mars. Our characters are two humans (no aliens, sorry) that live in the main settlement of Maja and deal with the chaos thrown at them. While the planet was being made habitable, no one seemed to care about establishing a set of rules and foundations to help keep society civil. Along with the inner city violence and the constant news of "yet another scientific breakthrough!", there's also dust storms that can blind the city for days at a time and meteors that constantly break through the atmosphere.

This can go in so many directions. Our characters could be scientists sent out to explore a collapsed mine only to find something otherworldly. They could be criminals trying to work their way up in power and influence in the city, whether it's with each other or against each other. One could be a criminal while another could be a regular citizen just trying not to die in a storm. I have two requests, the first that this be either MxM or FxF. My second is that we focus on the darker, grittier aspects of human life. Violence, drugs, sex, corruption. I won't want rape or noncon to be a part of this, though.

the roleplayers

I have a regular interest check thread that can be found here. I'm not keen on making multiple threads, but since there is a lot to this idea, I decided to make it its own thread. Please look through my other thread for a more detailed explanation of how I am as a roleplayer and what I look for in a partner, since I won't list everything out here. Or, you could check out the other plot ideas that I have in that thread.

pancake as a roleplay partner
- I am over 18, thus I am perfectly fine with mature themes, so long as they (ex: sex) don't become the main focus of the roleplay.
- I write in third person, past tense with multiple paragraphs and decent grammar.
- My characters aren't solely dominant or submissive. They each have their distinct personalities and won't steamroll over you or be a mat for you to walk on.
- Again, I prefer for this to either be MxM or FxF.
- Contact me through guild PM, which is where I would also like to have the roleplay be played out.
- I like making character sheets. Usually they're just name, age and real life appearances, but I'm thinking that for this, we may have to dive into history just a bit in order to really establish what is happening.
- Note that I am in college right now, so that will be my main priority, but I will let you know if I will take a while to respond.

you as a roleplay partner
- Please be over the age of 18, both for personal comfort and because I want to explore darker/grittier themes.
- Write in third person, past tense with understandable grammar and spelling.
- Help me come up with ideas for the plot! Despite how much I have written, there's still so much more that needs to be discussed. I don't want to have laid out everything for this roleplay.
- An extension of the above, but please communicate with me if you're no longer interested in the roleplay, want to change something, or are uncomfortable with something that happened.
- Don't control my character, whether it's their actions or reactions (and I won't control yours either).

So that's the idea! I'm really looking to do this idea so someone please send me a PM with some ideas/suggestions! Think about a futuristic city with a loose control structure that allows crime and disorder to thrive. The world is still developing, so unexpected twists can come out of nowhere. Hope to hear from you!
