「 Abandoned thoughts,
crossing the rift

A place where all dreams end. The wishes that don't come true. A barren land, full of unwanted hopes.
Or so they say.

a memoir
✧──────✧

A lullaby,
the sweet sound of a siren.
Far from unseemly, a beautiful heart that would never let you drown.

That's who she was.
A whirlwind that danced on today, never looking behind,
always embracing forwards.

A love so warm, you could feel it through her words.
An angel's care, you swear she could fly off to tomorrow.

Then she did.

A burning bearer passed along, with family she called my own.
She could never be replaced.
But her wishes carry on.

An emotion I've been struck with for a long while now has formed into a short story. It's still a work in progress, but I hope you enjoy the draft.

"Fear. What is it?" the woman tilted her head to look at the man whose arm she laid across.
"Fear... it's a limiting feeling. It grasps what you are afraid of, and uses it against you." he answered back, staring at her the same.
"Can you control it?"
"Sometimes."
"Sometimes?"
"Yes."
"Huh..." she resigned to watch the cloudy skies above them.

"What do you do?"
"Do what?"
"About the fear." questioned the girl. She grabbed his hand, an aged and calloused hand, starting to draw silly shapes. "What do you do when you're being controlled by it?"
"Nothing." he sighed in resignation.
"Nothing?" she stopped, looking at him incredulously. "There's always something you can do, like, I don't know but-"
He hushed her with a finger on her lips. "You do nothing, but observe. Observe and learn." He laid his hand under his head. "Understand what fear it is, and attempt to conquer it. So you can control it for the 'sometimes'."
The woman nodded her head in understanding.

A quiet moment between them passed, a heavy and warm breeze, heralding a storm beyond the horizon. "Have you ever had a moment when you couldn't understand it?" she piped up in curiousity, again, drawing simple shapes across his palms.
"Of course." he huffed in a small smile. "I'm not invincible. I'm not strong. I'm still human."
"What do you do then?"
"I keep trying. If that doesn't work, then-" he closed his hands around her fingers, causing her to squeal and giggle in surprise. He smiled with a gentle gaze. "I try to focus on other things that make me less fearful."

"Then, why are we here again?"
"... I'm trying to understand this fear."
"What's to be afraid of here?"
"A lot." he said, still looking at his arm, the place where it still felt warm.
"Why don't you focus on other things?"
"Fear keeps me here. Its grip is pretty strong." he chuckled in empty humour. "Then tell me, why don't you fear it?"

The voice paused for a moment, as if to think about her words.
"Because... we were never meant to be here. I can't fear what I already know I will lose."
The man gritted his teeth. "You never lost me, I was there by your side, the entire time."
"Then why the fear?"
"You feared me first." his voice started to raise into an angry whisper. He was feeling annoyed by the constant questioning, so he turned to his to see her, only to come face to an empty blur. The skies were gone, and all that was left was a darkness, a humanoid shaped light, and him illuminated by it.
"No..." she began, a quiet whisper, filling up but also suffocating the void. "I feared that you saw an idea of me."

An opener of an RP I'm part of. It was well received when I posted, so I'm proud to share it. :3

“Where are you looking at, love?”
“I- I, strange people have ent-”
“Shh… don’t pay them any mind. Just look at me, my dear.”
With a body so ample and luscious, it was no speculation that another man had fallen into the clutches of the desert’s rose. Merely tracing the outline of this young man’s jaw was more than enough to rile onlookers, that they let out another cheer for a wanton performance.

“Tonight, my room. Bring what I need,” the red-haired woman whispered in her companion’s ear, to which he hurriedly nodded in answer - to whether it was out of arouse or fear, no-one knew. For what they saw was a simple lap dance, yet for Dianthe, it was a step closer to her justice. Vengeance. She could feel it in the air, in which she had conquered so fearlessly. The unspoken steps, on which she knew every dance for. They were close by. This time, they will not slip away.

Dianthe slipped away from this man’s lap, her attire seductively drawing away the souls of those who dare take in the sight of the escort. All eyes were on the desert rose, the Whirlwind of the Sands, and for their gracious patronage… a special dance was in order.
She had been at this tavern for a long while now, there was no-one she didn’t know, no bed she hadn’t felt, but somehow, a fresh new feel of stares were on her.

Following the direction of the feel, she took in the sight of a heterochromic maiden staring at her. From her attire, she seemed to be travelling through the sands for some sort of business. Business that was none of hers, and as long as she kept out of her way, Dianthe would pay her no mind. Throwing a flirty kiss and wink in the girl’s way, Dianthe sauntered her way to some rich-looking men.

“My, Lady Dianthe, what a treat to see you here!” exclaimed a thick aged man, encased with golden baubles. A showcase of his meagre power and wealth, a display of his feeble ego. Dianthe knew this man very well, and his wife, son, daughters, and extended family would be unfortunate enough to travel through. “Surely, it is my treat to be of service to you, sir.” Dianthe dipped into a bow right in front of the man, and took her usual place on his lap. The man smirked in delight, grabbing a fiery tendril, slowly wrapping it around his chubby fingers, while a hand snaked around her waist to hold her. “I haven’t forgotten my end of the bargain, have you?” he whispered lowly, bringing his gaze down to her lips. Matching his intentions, Dianthe’s lips curled into a tempting smirk, “Of course not.”

“Very good,” he grinned happily, “Come, meet my guests. These fine men have come from another kingdom far away, selling some interesting merchandise.” The man waved his free hand towards the three men sitting around them, who were trying to mind their own business - although it was obvious they could not keep their eyes off the bold mistress, who sat on the lap of their client. Sheepishly, they muttered their greetings to Dianthe. ’I’ve found you.’ Dianthe’s smirk widened, to the point that she could feel her jaw hurt. These men look innocent enough. A closer look at their neck and wrists would reveal that these men are part of a dangerous party, famed for their barbarism, dirty work, and a black tiger tattoo. Before Dianthe could get the edge on them, a commotion was stirring in the bar, seemingly coming closer to her. In the centre of it all, was a small, cute, fuzzy but angry girl storming her way towards Dianthe. She could only guess what brought her the girl’s wrath, but she was busy. Dianthe had no time to play with a wolfling.

When the girl finally made her way to their table, Dianthe slid off the client’s lap, bending down to her height - which gave those behind a nice view. “Do you need a service, my lady?” Dianthe asked, in a low, seductive tone. Giving the girl a wink, Dianthe gave her an offer that should make her satisfied and leave Dianthe alone, “Why don’t you blow off some steam with me tonight?”
