Appearance:
Marie.Marie is an Inkling – a terrestrial squid with the ability to shift between humanoid and cephalopod forms and to splatter a special type of coloured ink. Her silver tentacle-hair – tipped in lime green and swept into a large side bow – is decorated with a pink, tasselled ornament bound in red ribbon. Golden eyes – their pupils shaped like four-pointed stars – gleam with quiet intensity, framed by a natural black mask that narrows at the bridge, then flares outward in lash-like flicks. A beauty mark rests below her right eye, and above them sit silver, oval-shaped brows. Fin-like ears taper into long, pointed tips, each pierced with a thick pearl hoop.
Marie wears a silken dark grey kimono, patterned with green and yellow seigaiha. A green obi secures it at the waist, embellished with a golden squid-shaped obidome. Over this, she dons a matte black haori bearing uroko-like squid motifs along the hem. Her sandals slap softly against the ground – black zōri contrasted with white tabi. In her hand, she carries a green wagasa. From the base of the handle dangles a tiny green squid charm, and within the ink-black shaft, hidden in plain sight, rests her weapon – the Hero Charger.
Personality:
Marie is cool-headed, her humour dry and her wit razor-sharp. Outwardly reserved, she conceals a quiet but unwavering loyalty beneath every sigh and side-eye. Though she tends to complain or tease – especially anyone too energetic or earnest – it’s often just her way of showing affection. Averse to mess and fuss, she prefers the quiet life… unless someone she cares about is in trouble. Then, the dry wit is wiped away, swiftly replaced by keen intuition and an even sharper aim. Marie notices more than she lets on – and she seldom misses a shot.
Background:
Born in Calamari County, Marie found stardom as one half of the Squid Sisters alongside her cousin Callie. Together, they took Inkopolis by storm with their music, charm, and occasional on-screen bickering. Beneath the pop idol veneer, however, Marie led a double life as Agent 2 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon – a secretive organisation tasked with defending Greater Inkopolis from the Octarian menace and other threats that never made the headlines. Gifted with a steady hand and a sharp eye, she proved an ideal navigator and sniper. But as the Squid Sisters’ fame grew, so did the pressure. Though she often played second fiddle to her flashier cousin, Marie quietly shouldered the weight of fan expectations – and the loneliness that came with them.
In the Now:
Having arrived in Meridi-at-Han without so much as a clue about her past, Marie made her home high in the city’s sunlit terraces. Instinctively drawn to song and dance, she took to performing at street festivals, where her effortless poise quickly earned her a devoted local following. Though she finds joy in this life, Marie longs for something forgotten… something etched into her soul. Amid the acropolis’ hustle and bustle, Agent 2 seeks out answers, keeping a pointed ear out for trouble – quietly defusing threats that might disturb the rhythms of daily life for the city folk she’s slowly come to care for.
Job: Anchor
Specialty:
Marie excels at long-range suppression and support, hindering enemies and buffing allies through song and ink-based tech. She may not be built for the frontline frenzy, but her steady aim and battlefield awareness allow her to steer the flow of combat from a safe distance – give her the high ground and a little breathing room, and she’ll turn the tide.
Inventory:
The Hero Charger.
Marie’s wagasa. Marie’s Hero Charger is a sleek, long-range sniper rifle built for holding vantage points and controlling the fight from afar. Rather than kill, its shots stun enemies or empower allies with precision, delivering clean zaps of her signature low-tide ink – tightly pressurised in its tank and released in concentrated, high-powered bursts. She conceals the weapon inside a decorative green wagasa, which doubles as a stylish stage prop. Marie carries little money – in Meridi-at-Han, her name tends to open the right doors (and gets her the occasional free snack).
Level: 1
EXP: [ ・・・・・・・・・・ ] 0 / 10
Abilities:
⇛ Low-Tide Ink Shot: Marie’s bread-and-butter ability sees her firing a high-velocity bolt of special ink from her Hero Charger, stunning enemies for two seconds or cleansing one negative effect from allies. The shot coats struck targets and leaves behind a sticky, straight trail of ink that slows enemies for as long as they remain in it – sealing off escape routes or locking down key positions.
Skills:
Weaknesses:
⇛ Sitting Duck: Marie isn’t built for covering long distances, sprinting, or close-quarters combat. She tires quickly and struggles in melee. Her lack of any real mobility option can leave her vulnerable to gap-closing enemies at the worst of moments.
⇛ Fin·icky: Marie dislikes mess, loud chewing, bad smells, and all vegetables. She may refuse to touch, use, or eat anything she deems unpleasant or unsanitary – limiting survival options in harsher conditions.
⇛ Sink or Splat: As an Inkling, Marie cannot swim. Submersion in water causes her ink to disperse, and if she stays under too long, she’ll dissolve completely.
⇛ No Bite: While Marie is an expert at suppressing and supporting her teammates, she’s not deadly (at least, not alone). She lacks any reliable way to deal direct damage – in a fight without backup, all she can do is stall, flee, or fall.
⇛ Chilly Waters: Marie’s penchant for sarcasm and throwing shade can make her seem cold, condescending, or disinterested. She rarely speaks plainly, which can frustrate more earnest or sensitive allies – some may even hesitate to trust someone so hard to read.
⇛ Idol Troubles: Marie’s rising popularity as a festival performer has made her a modestly recognisable face across the Forbidden Kingdom. Her mere presence can draw unwanted attention – from obsessive fans and overzealous admirers to opportunists or rivals looking to make a name for themselves.
