Alternate History story concept resulting from alt-hist changes from the 1930-40s (and possibly a dimensional portal transit to an earlier time -- 1950-60s -- from our current time, 2026)

Two major, alternate events involving the United States and other nations took place in the late 1930s and early 1940s. To put it simple, by 1950, three superpowers would control or oversea the vast majority of the world: The Greater German Reich, the Empire of Japan, and the United States of America.

(A more detailed explanation of how this came to be will be included in the next reply to this seeking thread.)

An unsettled peace -- a Cold War if you'd like -- has reigned over the planet since the mid-1940s when the fiercest of fighting slowed to little more than local rebellions, guerilla attacks by wannabe freedom fighters, etc.

Our RP begins in the 1950s when the world's only nuclear power, the United States, discovers that the GGR has tested a nuclear device and Imperial Japan is nearing the testing phase of their own weapon, a biological weapon with a 95% fatality rate. Both of these Great Powers wish to expand their ranges and, of course, only the United States stands in their way.

The dimensional transit concept is a possibility but not a must. I'm thinking that maybe some characters from actual 2026 have somehow been transported to the alt-hist 1940-70s. They come into a world they don't recognize and have to survive and thrive.

Details about the RP:

  • I do not have a post length or frequency limit. I only ask that you post regularly in such a way that your part of the story keeps up with the timeline and doesn't bog the story down with delays.
  • I would hope that writers would proofread and correct for errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. We all make mistakes, of course -- I've probably made some in this post -- but we should all at least proofread and look for those mistakes, don't you think?
  • Multiple characters are welcomed. Play however many you think you can handle.
  • Interaction with other writers is not required. If you want to write a storyline in which you roleplay all of the characters, you may.
  • I do require that the general initial direction of an imminent storyline be sent to me for "review". This is simply to ensure that we are all writing in the same universe. If I write that the US attacks some country, and you write that that country no longer exists, then we have a problem, don't we?
  • There are likely going to be more details added later when I think of them. Right now, though, I'm supposed to be pruning blueberries.

Please feel free to either PM me or post your questions, comments, and interest here. (It will serve as a "bump" as well as connect the two of us.)

The Alternate History portion of the story goes something like this:

  • The United States's Neutrality Acts of the 1930s were more strictly followed than in actual history:

    • The US denied all assistance -- military and non-military -- to China and all European nations that were or would be involved in what would become World War II.
    • The Lend-Lease Program would never come to be, denying $1 trillion in assistance (in 2024 value) to Europe, Russia, and China.
    • As a result of these and other things (to be spoken of in future posts), the US would not go to war with either the German Reigh or the Empire of Japan.
  • After Franklin Delano Roosevelt's death in mid-1941 (not 1945) during his third term as President, now-President Henry A Wallace met with Adolf Hitler to:

    • Negotiate and sign the secret "Treaty of Non-Aggression between the United States of America and the German Reich" pact.
    • Divide Europe, Africa, and the Middle East into "spheres of influence":

      • Germany gets:

        • All of Europe with the exception of the British Isles and Iceland.
        • The countries of Africa that border the Mediterranean Sea.
        • The Soviet Union and any territories the USSR controls.
      • The United States (and any allies they chose to let in on the deal) either get or get to supply/control:

        • The British Isles and Iceland.
        • The rest of Africa and the Middle East with the exception of those Mediterranean coast countries that go to Germany.
        • South America.
    • Germany will keep their submarines and warships out of the Atlantic with the exception of a zone within 100 miles of their European/African possessions.
    • The US and her allies will keep their submarines and warships out of that 100-miles German zone and the Mediterranean.
    • The Arctic Ocean is closed to military vessels, both under and on the water aa well as in the air.
  • And more that I will write later when I have more time.
