Anyone recall the short lived television series "La Brea"? This idea is inspired by that show.

A commercial airplane passes through a time portal, causing it to jump back in time to 10,000 bc or so. Its pilot (written by me) lands the plane with only a few deaths and injuries.

Now it's all about survival, in a place with saber tooth cats, unfamiliar and potentially deadly plants, charging mammoths, and more.

These are the details I have in mind:

• I would like to have 6-12 main characters spread across 3-6 writers.
• I prefer writers who proofread their replies before posting to find and correct errors.
• I don't have a minimum reply length requirement. Just keep the story moving ahead.
• I don't have a minimum posting frequency either. Just don't hold the story up by not replying consistently.
• Do not “God mode” obviously.
• Be polite.

I'd like it to be just as Humans from Asia were moving into Central North America. This gives our Survivors a few years to establish themselves before they meet their first Paleo-Indians.

I need to do some more investigation about Montana in particular, which is where I would like our story to take place. But what I know now is that our story would likely take place around 14,000-12,000 BC.

This might change a bit. I'm still researching the Pleistocene and Montana to get specifics for accuracy.

Our time period would mean that certain large now-extinct animals would have still been alive in North America.

They would have included but would not have been limited to the following:

Woolly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius)

American Mastodon (Mammut americanum)

Columbian Mammoth (Mammuthus columbi)

Giant Short-Faced Bear (Arctodus simus) – The largest bear species ever, capable of running at high speeds.

American Lion (Panthera atrox) – larger than the modern African lion.

Dire Wolf (Canis dirus) – A large, powerful wolf species.

Saber-toothed Cat (Smilodon fatalis).

Giant Bison (Bison latifrons) – Much larger than modern bison, weighing several times more.

Ground Sloths (Megalonyx jeffersonii, Paramylodon harlani, Nothrotheriops shastensis) – Large, slow-moving herbivores.

Glyptodonts (Glyptotherium cylindricum) – Armadillo-like armored mammals.

Gomphotheres (Cuvieronius hyodon) – Elephant relatives with spiral tusks.

Ice Age Coyote (Canis latrans orcutti) – A larger, more robust relative of the modern coyote.

American Cheetah (Miracinonyx trumani) – A cheetah-like predator.

Giant Beaver – Beavers up to 2.5 meters long.

These animals thrived in a landscape shaped by retreating glaciers, with vast grasslands, forests, and wetlands. Their extinction began around 10,000 years ago, likely due to a combination of climate change (such as the Younger Dryas cooling event) and human hunting pressure.

I'll investigate each animal more, as well as look up the many other now-extinct animals that might play a part in our story.

“Facts” upon which our RP will be based:

• Our time frame is approximately 12,000 BC.
• Ice-free corridors have opened between Asia and Montana, the location of our RP.
• Large mammals are moving between the continents of Asia and North America.
• Humans have followed big game animals from Asia into North America. They are about 2-5 years from reaching our RP’s location (not that they or we know that).

Definitely! It would be great to have some families as well as couples and singles.

I'm going to try to get the OOC, IC, and Character Profile sheet up tonight (the next 12 hours).

Some of my characters will include:

The Pilot, who will attempt to maintain some sort of control, despite being injured. We might have a power struggle, but in the end, my character needs to have some sense of control initially since I am the Host, but this can change.

A sort of low life drug smuggler who initially will only think of himself but who will soon begin to think of others.

An outdoorsy type who will help with survival ideas.

And a couple of secondary characters who will simply be lost in this new world. Maybe a stock broker or an influencer or a software designer.
