It's already a moon after the Wispclan lost their leader Shadowstar, who run into the forest to save one of the apprentices, who was enchanted by the dangerous lullaby. The leader and the appentice both vanished like everyone before them. The deputy Hawkstorm was the leader now and he was supposed to walk into the moonpool to get his nine lives, but the danger waiting them on the night made him so scared that he didn't find his courage to risk his live to get into the moonpool.

At first the clan was understanding toward him, but now he is noticed how unconfortable most of them are, not only for the creature lurking around, but also the fear of Starclan rejecting them because the leader does not do as he should. One queen having total of a five kitten didn't bring much of joy on the clan either. Mostly stress as now they have plenty of kits to watch over and make sure the creature don't take them.
