Space was dead silent, peaceful and tranquil in its utter emptiness. There was even little starlight here, so far between stars. No one in their right mind would ever think to come out here to this barren patch of space. The sheer, utter blankness of the place was enough to drive men mad, some would whisper in hushed tones over the tops of their drinks. The complete and total lack of anything to rest your eyes on was anathema to the conscious mind, a dark road to insanity.

Then, in the midst of the unyielding darkness, a tiny pinprick of light blossomed from nowhere. It hung for one terrifying second and then began to grow, fast and faster, the blackness of empty space forced to retreat before it as it exploded into brilliant light. When it had grown to a relatively large size it began to waver and shimmer, splitting with a visible shudder down the middle to reveal it was not only simple light. It was a hyperspace window. The window shuddered again as a metal ship came tumbling out, and then closed, vanishing as if it had never even existed. The ship was still there, though, literally tumbling end-over-end through empty space, flames shooting out at random intervals and little pieces of the hull flying off into nowhere. It was obvious this ship was in peril, or possibly just in need of serious work. With this particular ship's crew, you never could tell.

Aylek
"Daisy! What did you doooooooo!" the last word out of his mouth was cut off as the ship tumbled in time with a flicker in the ship's failing inertial dampeners, causing him to fly haphazardly into the other side of the ship's inner hull. He hit with an 'oof!' and a growl before the direction reversed, sending him slamming again. He tried to yell again, but his words were cut off as he felt the ship try to pull that stupid trick on him again. He grabbed an upper beam in the ceiling as the ship tumbled further, swung around brutally but otherwise not moving. He bared his teeth and started to move his paws along the beam, slowly and painfully making his way towards the bridge, where he'd last seen Daisy.
He had only moments before walked away to find time for himself, and now he was going back. There was no escape. He hissed and kept moving, hoping that the fiery-haired human would find him so he didn't get killed by anything not nailed down. In a major, almost badly-invented coincidence, as soon as the thought passed through his mind he was forced to jump as a large piece of furniture barreled down the hallway. He watched it go, silently hoping it'd breach the hull so they could all die, and then started to claw his way back towards the bridge, wondering if Daisy was even still there.

"If I knew, it wouldn't be happening!" The ginger yelled, clutching the side of the bridge and pressing every button he could reach without losing his grip. "Ikusen!" Daisy hollered. "You're supposed to be the smart one, you do something!"
Ikusen, who had flattened himself against the wall, shook his head. "Not moving!"
Daisy sighed. "I have to do everything myself. And quite frankly, I'm getting a little tired of it." Having thrown his tantrum, he crawled back to the cockpit. "Aylek! Should I slam on the brakes?!" he yelled. "I'm hitting the brakes!!" Before Ikusen had time to scream the multiple reasons why slamming the brakes would be a terrible idea, Daisy had hit all of the buttons he decided might be the brakes. Evidently one of them was, because the ship careened to a stop. Daisy slammed into the windshield, groaning. Ikusen was ripped from his place on the wall and catapulted across the bridge, landing with a thud. The other button he'd pressed was a sprinkler, which responded almost as well as the brakes had, drenching the crew.
"Daisy. . Why?" Ikusen gasped, making a feeble effort to get up.
Daisy peeled himself off the window. "You should all be thanking me. I saved you all."

Aylek had stopped trying to make his way to the bridge, and was instead focused on the more pressing issue at hand, which was trying to keep himself alive. He kept hanging onto the bulkhead as the ship started to go even crazier around him -if that was possible- eeven as the ship continued on its tilt-a-whirl course through space. All the doors started to swing open and close again, bashing into him and sending him spinning only to get hit by another opening door. He got pushed around a couple of times by this, growling and kicking, before he finally got ahold of that ceiling beam and got out of the way of the demon doors. He was clinging to the thing for dear life when someone apparently shut off the inertial dampeners, sending him thudding into the floor and zipping towards the bridge. He yelled out, clawing at the floor and trying to find something to grab onto, when the compensators reversed, stopping him completely and making him feel like he was made of lead. He lay there like a sack of potatoes for a long moment, hoping that sofa didn't come back this way, when the compensators failed again, literally throwing him to the roof. He grabbed onto it desperately, shutting his eyes and praying to every deity he could think of, and inventing some on the spot, that he could stay here.
That was when he heard it. It was a deep rumble, like a demon in the pits of hell, a nightmarish noise that made him shudder at his very core. It was the sofa, shooting down the hallway behind him like a herald of the apocalypse, and he tried to make himself smaller and smaller so that it wouldn't murder him. He didn't think he'd be able to stand it if his gravestone read "Aylek- The sofa won." He gritted his teeth and shut his eyes, listening as the possessed piece of living room decor shot down the deck. It passed under him easily and kept going, not even slowing down when the compensators flickered in and out. "Daisy! Your couch is incoming! Get out of the way!" He yelled, not wishing that death on anyone. He heard it slam into the viewport on the bridge and bit his lip.
Then it was over, and as the compensators flickered one final time he dropped to the floor, hanging his head as the ship came to a final stop. The three of them sat in a reverent silence, and Aylek didn't know if it was fate or misery that had saved them from being killed like dirt in a washing machine. Something wouldn't let them die, and he was partially grateful for that. He started to smile a little, life seeming more precious than it had before. That was the exact moment the sprinklers came on, dousing him and soaking right through his clothes to wet down his fur. His smile vanished, replaced with misery. He hung his head again, pulling his knees up to his chest, glancing at Ikusen before shutting his eyes. "Daisy," he started slowly, "did the couch get to you?"

"Yes, actually." Daisy replied. "I'm sitting in it right now. Ikusen, get some snacks." Ikusen shut off the sprinklers, sighing heavily. He chucked a bag of chips in Daisy's general direction.
"Shouldn't we, you know, clean up the water everywhere?" He asked, ringing out his jacket and shaking his hair.
"Good idea." Said Daisy. "I'll open a window!" Ikusen screamed loudly enough this time.
"Whatever, then. Aylek, why don't you come in here and get us flying again?" Daisy looked over at the lion huddled on the floor. "What's wrong with you, anyway?" Daisy stood, walking over to the cupboards and poured himself a glass of juice. "So I was thinking like, when we find a planet, we should totally stop and get some supplies. If I ever figure out where we're going, it's probably far away from here. We're running out of goldfish crackers. And baking powder."
"That's not baking powder!" Ikusen looked horrified. "When did you get that?! And how'd you get it on the ship?"
"My pocket?" Intoned Daisy. "The security's not exactly up to TSA standards here." He sighed dramatically. "Come on, Aylek, fly me to the moon. Like into the moon. Straight at it. If we went at full speed, how fair would we get inside of a moon before we stopped? Let's find out."

He was grateful when the sprinklers shut off, leaving him to drip silently out in the hallway to the bridge. He shook out his mane and then stood up shakily, glaring at Daisy. "I almost died a lot of horrible ways in the last five minutes." He cursed and stripped his soaked shirt off, wringing it out and then tossing it over the sofa to dry. He bit his lip and then started towards the ship's main console, looking at the mess of blinking lights and error messages. "If we ever get moving again," he muttered, looking back at the two before turning to mess with the controls again. "Is there any button at all that you didn't push?" He eyed the powder in the ginger's hands, wondering why he even needed it. It's not like it would do anything for him- or to him. He was already at a different level.
He knelt in front of the panel and took off the slider right in front, gazing into the interior of the ship's command center at the mess of wires and glowing lights. "Daisy," he called back, "I think there's a large chance that we're gonna be stuck here for a while." He put his hands into the space, trying to feel for the wire that was connected to the hyperdrive readout. If he could just get that, they could get started. If he could just- "Ah!" he growled and jumped back, clutching his hand. Something had just given him a nasty shock. Something was loose in there, and he'd have to fix it quickly if he wanted to get started. The lion narrowed his eyes and stuck his hand back in there, looking for the bastard wire that'd gotten him. each and every coil he could feel was wrapped tight, until one gave beneath his fingers. He grinned, "gotcha!" he shoved the loose coil back up into its spot, a satisfied grin on his face. After that, the hyperdrive readout was easy to find, and he hooked it back in, standing up to thumb the dash and send the readout hovering in the air at eye level. It wasn't pretty.
After a while of messing around with it, he turned to his two shipmates and shook his head grimly. "We're not using the hyperdrive for a long, long time. Honestly I don't really understand how we've been going so far, with no money and no spare parts. It's like we've been running on duct tape and dreams." He turned back to the dash, "but there's a little good news; there's a planet within roughly three days' travel from here. We can go there and take our chances, or-" he tilted his head, "no, that's really our only option."

"Is there any button that you didn't push?" The Deither asked
"As a matter of fact I missed the large red one in the upper left corner." Daisy waved vaguely in that direction with a potato chip. "I can get it now if you want.

"It's like we've been running on duct tape and dreams."
"We have, actually. I'm pretty sure of it." Daisy nodded. "That's pretty much all we have left. But if you say we can get to this planet, great! I can rob, lie, and con my way into enough money to buy a harem."

"Daisy, we want to fix the ship, not buy a harem." Ikusen was mopping up the floor, his soaked shirt discarded on the table.
"I never said I was going to actually buy a harem, I just said that we could . Just keeping our options out there." Daisy shrugged. "you guys want some dinner? I'm starving. I could eat an entire cruise ship, orphans and all."
" Daisy! " Ikusen snapped.
"Just because I can doesn't mean I will." Daisy retorted. "Besides, there aren't any cruise ships around." He rummaged in the cupboards, using a rather nefarious looking chair as a stool. "You guys like beets? I have like 500 cans of beets. We don't even need a cruise ship. We have beets."

"And cases and cases of crazy powder," the feline muttered to himself as he bent beneath the console one last time, plugging the loose wires back in and rerouting power that was leaking from the hyperdrive into functioning systems. Lights started to come back on as they got the much needed power they'd been cut off from, along with a piercing wail that warned them of their impending exit from hyperspace. He angrily shut that one off with a frustrated yank of the coil and the high-pitched noise cut off abruptly, leaving his sensitive ears ringing.
He turned back to Daisy and Ikusen, nodding and starting to head out of the main bridge toward his quarters so he could change into something that wasn't dirty and soaked. "Somehow I don't think we could keep a harem for very long." He swiped a can of beets from Daisy's hand and peeled the top with a single claw, munching on one idly as he walked out. He heard that last remark and yelled, "You're too late! Ylyria got to the bus full of orphans first!"
He didn't turn the lights on when he got to his quarters, instead relying on his natural night vision to change quickly into a dark tunic and pants, slipping foot-molded boots onto his feet and walking back out, thankful he was dry again, at least. And he hadn't been killed by the couch.

Daisy opened a can of beets by slicing it open with his sword, sending them spraying over the table, Ikusen's jacket, and part of the wall. Ikusen gave him a despairing look. "your sword is rusty. You can't eat those."
"There is no try, there is only do, or do not." Daisy said sagely, peeling a beet off of the table and sticking it in his mouth. "AYLEKKKK," he hollered, "When can we leave?!"
Daisy threw himself down on the couch he hadn't bothered to move back to it's proper place. "I'm bored. And wet."
"So go change, like the rest of us." Ikusen suggested.
The ginger man considered this for a few moments. Finally, he got up and walked out, looking as though he hadn't considered this before. He flicked the lights on in his chambers and removed the blasters and sword hung at his hips. A few minutes later he replaced them over his customary cream shirt and plaid jeans before walking out again. His mood had changed with the clothes. "Aylek!." he snapped. "I want to be at this planet within 24 hours. Or so help me god," -He drew his sword and pointed it at the Deither- "I'll use your internal organs for a necklace."

Aylek put his hands up, looking at that menacing sword now pointed right at him. His ears were folded back across his skull, and he tensed up, not wanting to get errantly stabbed because Daisy'd gotten himself into a foul mood. He nodded, backing away toward the recently-fixed control panel and turned, moving his hands expertly across it anf guiding the ship's various essential systems online. Yellow status lights kept popping up, telling the cat that the ship was truly only a stray breeze away from collapsing like a dying star, but since they'd come this far, he hoped it'd get them just a little farther before she finally died.
He powered up sublight engines slowly, feeling the rumble grow under his feet as he fed them more and more of the ship's precious power reserves. "Engines coming online, operating at 50% capacity." He stole a glance back at Daisy, then punched the thrusters, sending them rocketing toward their faraway destination.

Daisy watched the Deither fiddle with the controls cautiously. When he felt the thrusters rumbling under his feet, he lowered his sword, sliding it into his scabbard and turning away. "Fine, then." he said tersely, as if he regretted his outburst. (He didn't) Just a few more hours, and I can finally get on something. This stupid ship is boring; I want something to do. The ginger thought restlessly. He spoke without turning. "I'm going to bed. It would be. . . advisable, if we were very much near our destination upon my awakening."
"Why are you talking like that?" Ikusen asked, wiping the last of the water off the floors.
"Like what?" Daisy looked confused. "I'm talking like I always do." He looked strangely at Ikusen, who returned the look. After a moment, Daisy shook his head, as if to clear it, and strode out.

Daisy was acting strange, even for him, and it took a lot to be able to tell the normal amount of strange from the "off" sort of strange. Aylek turned from the control panel, "This trip is going to take at least a day and a half; will you still be asleep by then?" As Daisy walked away, the Deither knew his question would go unanswered. He was fine with that, though, given the mood the man had been in as of...thirty seconds ago?
He decided then that he would never understand humans, and shot a glance at Ikusen before setting the thrusters to an average power setting and stepping away from the control panel. He moved closer to Ikusen and looked at him sideways, "what was that? I've never seen him like this before."

Ikusen shrugged. "Sometimes he does that. He's not all crazy, you know. There's a calculating side to him that comes out every once in a while. I've never heard him talk like that, but maybe that was him." Ikusen wiped beets off the wall. He eyed Aylek. "Do you need more than a few hours to get this ship where we're going? Daisy's in the mood to make good on his threats. I can keep him asleep for longer." He looked uncomfortable. "You're the only one who can keep the ship flying right now, so I'd rather he didn't kill you."
