This post was found on a horror website frequented by your friend Samuel White. He of course saw it to just be another one of those crazy people who will just randomly post some horror story they came upon whilst bored. This was different though, the rest of the post was an extremely detailed description of how, when, and where to preform the ritual which had been come to be known as the Dark Portal. Samuel had forgotten about it after a while but still kept it saved onto his computer incase he felt like trying the ritual some day. This day came three days after christmas in 2014. You were all getting drunk as was customary when Samuel rembered the ritual and suggested your group to try it seeing as it needed several people.
Samuel listed off the items you would need which included a mirror which was preferablly small and hand held. This mirror would be with you through out the whole ritual until it ended at 4:40 pm the next morning. You would also require a small baggie filled with exactly ten tablespoons of salt, no more and no less than ten otherwise it would end badly. The ritual began at midnight but the true fun began thirty minutes after in which you would light a candle and travel, in groups of three, through a closed door marked with a black x on it. Each member of the group would carry and item they held dear that they had on hand before the ritual began, if it wasn't and item they held dear, the whole group would be in a bad position. As you walked through the door you would notice a change in your surrondings, it would get colder and darker. The candles' light would barely penetrate the vale of darkness that was around you. This is where the mirrors came into play.
The mirrors acted as a way of seeing both ahead and behind the user. The mirrors even displayed the sights ahead of it's user through the darkness. If you asked where you were, the reply would come from all around in a raspy voice that said "Welcome, to the Dark Realm. The games have begun." This was you introduction into the game and now the real fun would begin. Three simple rules existed with the ritual, 1) Never split up the group, 2)If you mirror cracks, don't go that way, and 3) Should all of your candles be blown out, use the salt in a circle and relight the candle. The games left you horrified but almost all of you made it out of there alive, although horribly afraid, and you made a pact to keep it a secret. The only person who never came back was Samuel, who had decided to be the only person in the group to go in without an item he held dear. Three weeks after, you all went back to your normal lives yet now you saw Samuel wondering about the streets like a ghost. Except, he wasn't a ghost, he seemed more like he was lost or was a image from another angle. Always was he running from something you couldn't see.
Well, I decided to make this weird tidbit of a roleplay story incase people were really interested in a horror fantasy roleplay. Basically we will start off with your characters seeing Samuel here and there then I will decide to put in the plot twist that will identify a change in the story. Anyways, I won't go into depth for everything just yet but I will tell you a little about the ritual your characters will have performed. Called Dark Portal by all of those who played the game, it is a ritual that was posted on a horror site by some crazy man. The only difference is that the indepth descriptions had many failsafes inside of it incase this should happen or that should happen such as the candles blowing out. The door marked with a black x is the portal to a realm the user who had posted the ritual called the Dark Realm due to it's eternal darkness except for when the games are nearing their end. As the game reaches it's end the realm would get a sort of twilight or pre-dawn light across it, this was the most dangerous time of the game and most crucial. This time period of light only last ten minutes and should you not make it back to the black x marked door, you would be trapped inside the Dark Realm until a month after the ritual was originally performed when the light would come back.
