There's only one slot open right now (not completely sure if male or female; will update when discovered) so if you want in, feel free to take the last spot!
Let's not waste any time; here's the idea:

Most Role-play's revolve around the idea of mutated or special powers, and for good reason; it grants the player a sense of being unique, and in this uniqueness they are typically hunted or chased after by some sort of Antagonist. In short, they are special. This role-play rejects that notion.

This world is one very similar to ours; in fact, all of the borders and history is the same, up until about 2014; that's when mutants were born.

However, nothing really changed at first. The smart ones hid the power; others used them a slight advantage. World governments started recruiting the best of the best and placed them in "A-Team" like groupings. For a while, nothing changed. That is, until Cold War II started.

In 2016 Russia began to slowly claim back all of the former Soviet states and sparked the beginning of CWII. It was and continues to be a Cold War; meaning, there is no real direct War going on. However, somewhere over the years the term "Mutant" stopped meaning "Human," and therefore, the U.S.A. and Russia began to fight with mutants.

And so, the draft was re-instated with both women and men. However, you were only drafted if you were a mutant. Once drafted, the higher-ups in the military would begin to place these draftees into small groups and train them to work as a team. The stronger the power, the better the team. The flyers and other Superman-types would mate it to the S.A. Units, or Superior Abilities Units. Then, the list would descend down from Superior to Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Theta, Standard, Weakened, and finally to Useless.

The U.S. Government didn't sugarcoat things.

The U.A.U. was the group not necessarily for the people with the weakest or lowest level of mutated powers; it was for the people with the most Useless powers for combat.

However, the definition of "Useless" was about to change, as Russia was soon to make a move nobody else expected.

So that's the idea. Basically a motley crew of people with the most ridiculous and pointless powers coming together to fight the "Soviets." What's more fun than that? (No offense if you're Russian btw.)

I'm looking for either 3 or 5 people at the MOST. I'm keeping a gender balance, and I play male, so need 1 male and 2 females or 2 males and 3 females. I'll post a CS later if there is interest, but I'm trying to keep numbers really low. It both helps makes sure we have accountability as well as moves the plot along quicker, as opposed to 10-15 people epics.

That brings me to my next point; I'm looking for active posters. If you cannot post more than once every two days, this might not be for you. If you go on vacation later this month we can arrange something. I'll set a maximum post per day soon, but honestly I'm looking for more rapid-fire posters (I'm thinking 1-2 posts per day) because I'd like to really breathe life into this. Most RP's I do die within a few weeks in heavy dialogue scenes and I'm trying to prevent that.

So, if you're looking for a Roleplay with crazy powers that are pretty lame, a tight and fast plot with time to breathe in between the action (the beginning may move slow so we can world-build), and maybe even a romance in the mix, this is for you.

Let me know if you are interested, so we can get this show on the road. I'm flexible with plot so if you have ideas or questions let me know!

(P.S. My character hasn't been written yet, but his power is probably gonna be an ability to shapeshift, but only into inanimate objects. Try to come up with a power that is both Useless and able to work with so the fights that may happen aren't purely one sided; I want to pit us up against some S.A.U.'s!)

This sounds very interesting. I'd love to see what happens to this idea, if you'll have me.

It's quite an order to make up a "useless power for combat" while also being able to "work with fights to prevent one-sided beat downs from S.A.U.'s," but where's the fun if there's no challenge eh?

If I may ask, how would the modern mutant combat work? I'm imagining that it would be something akin to what modern combat is today albeit with a few "mutations" in combat tactics (there's nothing quite like a soldier with their trusty M16 and bulletproof mutant flesh shrugging off enemy fire as they leisurely close the distance with the enemy), but I don't want to assume anything.

What kind of mutant powers were you thinking the U.A.Us would have?

Interested, mostly depending on the responses to the above questions. I have quite a few ideas, and can play female, if it should prove necessary.

Well, with the U.A.U. powers, it doesn't have to be completely useless. Just something a big government would think as useless. For example, I'm pretty sure my guy will have shapeshifting, but only into inanimate objects. Clearly, on the surface that is quite pointless, but on a battlefield sometimes would need things and that's when it would play into it.

As for the battles, I was thinking that each person could have a semi-automatic pistol, but most of the fighting would be melee and hand-to-hand. I'm going for a more lighthearted feel to this so hence the name and system.

If you guys have any suggestions let me know! I tend to over-plan sometimes.

That's quite difficult~ Big governments like to exploit any resources they have and there are a lot of different perspectives in organizations, so they'd probably find a use for most mutations they come across. My next question was going to be about the theme/feel of the RP, but you've already answered that.

I can play male or female, and I don't really have a preference. Just consider me a spare to add to either end of the scale~

My next questions would be... what is the strategic purpose of the U.A.U.? Are we just a squad to clean up what remnants survived the S.A.U. assaults like a rear guard, or are U.A.U.s common cannon fodder? Do we perform miscellaneous tasks like the army's gofers, or perhaps we are sent into suicide missions because we are easily replaced?

Is there discrimination/hazing between higher and lower ranked mutants, or are we all mutant brothers in arms? On that note, is there discrimination between mutants and normal humans? (It is slightly hinted at as mutants are drafted but normal humans are not.)

Forgive me if I'm asking a bit too much. I tend to ask questions a lot and have a bad habit of assuming the answers, so this time I want to know if my assumptions are incorrect or not.

It's totally fine to ask questions. I tend to assume everyone understands what I'm trying to say and I realize that what seems clear to me may not always seem clear to others.

I didn't go into too much detail due to a time constraint I had earlier, but my essential idea was that we would begin the story was our characters being placed in a new U.A.U. (The assumption is that there are multiples of each unit; the U.A.U. prefix is just a type of unit; not a particular one). There would be some training involved (I planned to also play a General or other military leader placed in charge of us in order to move the story; trying to use him not as often as possible).

The reason the Government wasn't using the U.A.U. (Or any of the lower units) is because there wasn't any need to. The S.A.U. and other higher units were doing just fine taking out whatever Russia had in store for them. Sort of like the real life U.S.A. not using troops in Iraq recently but sending advisers. There wasn't (in the RP) a need for everyone to be going. We pick up the story when it's clear that the country needs to start utilizing everyone.

I hope that makes a bit more sense. At first, this U.A.U. would be doing more clean-up work, but then we would delve into actual fighting. Much alike the movie "Glory," if that rings any bells.

For the sake of the story we could figure out our powers before starting and how they would be useful in a situational battle. As an actual citizen of the U.S. and a former bureaucrat I can assure you that a LOT of things wouldn't be run well., and mistakes happen. Although you have a completely valid point.

I hope that makes more sense; I totally get that you're trying to understand what I'm getting at with this RP and I hope this helped in someway. If you have a question feel free to ask.

I believe I understand a bit more. Thank you~
And that's it for any questions I have right now. I guess next up for me is figuring out what I'm going to do for a "useless" mutation.

Yeah, when I say useless I essentially mean "Not directly helpful in field of battle from the POV of the government," to try to make things clearer.

Definitely interested.

I'd prefer to play female, if possible. My male characters tend to be very awkwardly written, and I don't want to use this RP to practice writing better males. It's got too much epic potential for that. XD

As for "useless" abilities, this may take some brainstorming. Would some sort of twist on Arclight's power be doable? I'm thinking shockwaves, which could be devastating, but with no real ability to target specific objects. They just project outward and hit anything that happens to be in their path. The randomness of the attack would possibly make it pretty useless.

That's fair. It's casual so I'm not going for super useless. Maybe the gov't decided that they needed precision and threw your character down the lower ranks. Going for an underdog story here anyway.

Thanks for responding!

That's basically what I was thinking. In addition, she'll probably have virtually no combat experience, and will have been drafted solely for the fact that she's a mutant.

Well, would you look at what we have here. Its been awhile, Mach. A month, if I recall.

Anyways, I had a question for you, HangYourSecrets. (Love that name, by the way.) As far as useless powers go, I wasn't quite sure if this would qualify. I was thinking something along the lines of the Hulk, but instead of getting strong, he lights on fire. (Not like Human Torch, more like literally running around, screaming as his flesh burns)

That's so hilarious I want you in this. Seriously. That is perfect.

And thanks! I steal all my usernames from my favorite band's lyrics, so I cannot take all the claim to it.

A month, indeed. I'm finally done with high school, for good, which means I should have time to RP a bit more now!

Also, I lost it at the mental image of your character spontaneously igniting. Giggles have ensued and refuse to subside. XD

HangYourSecrets and DR_TRAPEZOID prefer to play a male.
Mach2 prefers to play female.
Espiculeas and I have yet to choose a preference.

I might try for a more miraculous ability akin to stealing "bad luck" through close proximity (mentally debating on whether it should be physical contact or a small range around the mutant). Basically, the people around the mutant wouldn't really have much if any "bad luck," meaning only normal and lucky situations are ahead~
Sounds useful, but a single entity with a vast amount of bad luck will probably outweigh a few individuals with a bit of good luck. It'll probably be a temporary effect, like ten or so minutes (I'm still thinking of the effects of it being a day long or only a couple of minutes, trying to find a good middle ground).
There's also the problem that the mutation is indiscriminate, stealing the bad luck of both friend and foe, but that's just a minor detail right?

But I'll keep brainstorming different mutations, perhaps something less... magical.

I'm sorry if I was a bit unclear before. I would prefer to play male, because my female haracers always seem... a bit off. I was just saying that if I had to, I would do my best.

I usually don't go for females but if Keia and I go female then we have what hang was looking for.

Would matter transmutation work? My character can transform one object into another, except with a catch. The object being changed must be in similar size to the one being created, my character must understand the object in question (no making guns if my character knows nothing of guns ect...), and the objects must usually be small and non complex or they will greatly drain my character.

Don't worry about any of that~
I'll go for a female role, which makes the balance even right now. Two males (HangYourSecrets, DR_TRAPEZOID) and two females (Mach2, Keia Vewyx) means Espiculeas can choose either male or female.

Sounds good. I'm just gonna go ahead and edit my first post so that if anyone else comes, it's just one more person. I'd like to keep this smaller.

And now I'm wondering if my character is gonna need to change powers...lol I think I went too useless.

And matter transmutation works just fine.
