Yeah, maybe some art. But my strong points are in writing and a bit in music, so that's where this thread is going to focus. As far as my writing goes, I'll be posting fanfics, because anything that I've some up with original is for me to make money off of. Gotta make a living somehow. :) My idea is to post at least one chapter or episode of writing per week. Why'd I say "episode"? Because I have some fanfics that are based off things like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, meaning I chose to name the chapters as episodes to best portray them.
Also, for my fanfics, I will be posting detail sheets over characters that basically cover the bare details of a person's backstory, appearance, etc. so that I don't have to spend hours explaining each character in the actual fanfic and so we avoid giving the reader "flashback whiplash." Anyway, might as well start with my Yu-Gi-Oh! OMEGA fanfic (which was initially supposed to be a Roleplay here on this site, but when it failed and I didn't want to give up on it, I decided to rewrite it as a fanfic), starting with writing some character info and other stuff of the like. First episode will be posted soon enough.
Writing
Yu-Gi-Oh! OMEGA takes place after Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, the fifth Yu-Gi-Oh! generation, and the most recent to date. Here we return to New Domino City, the heart of the Turbo Duel, where we see a different struggling area of New Domino than the previously run-down Satellite Island from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Now, many years in the future, the Turbo Duel continues to thrive, and though the Fusion and Synchro forms of Summoning are yet enjoyed and the Xyz and Pendulum Summons have made their way to the city, the bulk of New Domino's population has taken a liking to the more modern Ignis Summon, performed when two or more monsters on a player's field have either their ATK or DEF points (varying from card to card) add up to the respective points of one Ignis Monster in the player's Extra Deck.
Ignis Summon
An Ignis Summon is performed by sending two or more monsters from your field to your Graveyard to Special Summon one Ignis Monster from your Extra Deck whose total ATK or DEF is equal to the combined total ATK or DEF of the sent monsters. This explanation, however, is vague at best, and doesn't give much description. Let me pull up an example.
The Ignis Monster "Volspire Dragon" has 3000 ATK and 2300 DEF. The required Ignis Materials for its Summon are listed on the card as "2 or more monsters (ATK)". This means that the total ATK of the sent monsters must add up to 3000, which is Volspire Dragon's ATK. A good example of this would be to send a "Twin-Headed Behemoth" (1500 ATK) and a "Divine Dragon Ragnarok" (1500 ATK) from your field to your Graveyard for the Ignis Summon of Volspire Dragon. Note that if you have activated the effect of "Twin-Headed Behemoth", its ATK is treated as 1000 and this is no longer a valid combination, because just like fluctuation in Level counts during Synchro and Xyz Summons, fluctuations in ATK ad DEF also do the same during Ignis Summons. It is not original ATK, but current ATK.
Similarly, one can use 2 1500 DEF monsters for the Ignis Summon of a 3000 DEF Ignis Monster whose materials read "2 or more monsters (DEF)".
Mono-Synchro
Like Contact Fusion was an add-on to Fusion Summon, Mono-Synchro is an add-on to Synchro Summoning. Mono-Synchro, as the name may suggest, is a form of Synchro Summoning using only one monster, specifically a Tuner. This is done either via the material listing for the Synchro Monster, which would say "1 Tuner monster" as its only material, by the effect of the Synchro Monster, which would usually have a condition and reward for using only 1 Tuner as its only Synchro Material, or via the effect of the Tuner Monster. Regardless, in every instance, the Tuner monster's Level must equal the Level of the Synchro Summoned monster, as you may expect. This makes Level 1 Synchro Monsters possible. Just a random fun-fact.
Biographical Description
Kenneth "Ken" Yutoh is a young boy from the Rat's Nest district of New Domino City. His poverty has kept him and his friends from moving to the more luxurious areas of the city, which he'd be okay with if the only worry of Rat's Nest was where the next pay check came from. Unfortunately, Duel Gangs terrorize and essentially control the area, making life there difficult.
Seven years ago, at the age of ten, was when Ken first joined up with his new "family". Having been orphaned shortly before when his parents had decided to detour through the Rat's Nest and his family had been attacked by a Duel Gang, the other orphans who had joined together were a godsend. Back then, the man named Valin Rotor was also a part of the family. Valin and Ken drew close, as if they were truly brothers. However, when Valin received an invitation to go pro as a Duelist, he didn't decline,and Ken had given Valin his most prized card: "Justice Guardian". Unfortunately, when Valin left, despite promises made, he never returned or spoke to the rest of the family again.
Currently, Ken's family consists of three others: Dex Bolton, who has become a father figure to him; Leah Nevelle, who is like a mother; and Minn Tenna, who acts just like a younger sister to Ken. He has come to love them all as such, and would be willing to protect each of them. Though Ken's Deck is weaker without "Justice Guardian" to back it up, he is still capable of impressive Dueling skills.
Physical Description
Ken's hair is maroon in color with golden bangs. His hair mostly juts out horizontally in eight "spikes" with one strand of jet black hair in each spike, four spikes on each side of his head, the top two curving slightly upward while the rest curve gradually more downward. Four distinct downward-pointing hooks of gold-colored hair form his front layer of bangs, while the second layer consists of three small, upward-pointing, fan-like spikes, each hook and spike having a black strand in it as well. His brows are sharp, and his maroon eyes can give an appearance of anger, but he is truly a gentle-hearted spirit.
Though his poverty makes it nearly impossible to own a fashionable wardrobe, Ken does the best he can to look presentable with what he has. Typically, he can be found with a tattered and slightly faded dark green jacket over a v-neck black t-shirt. Loose denim jeans with a hole in each leg at the knee are held up around his waist by a belt, while white, generic brand tennis shoes are his choice of footwear. On the occasion of riding his Duel Runner, Ken dons an old, dented helmet whose color matches his jacket and whose visor has a crack over his left eye, but it still serves its purpose.
His Duel Disk is an old and rusted Duel Academy disk that he's painted maroon and rigged, with the help of his friend Dex Bolton, to be hybrid and function with his Duel Runner as well as working on its own. Its Field Card Zone is broken (Luckily Ken doesn't use Field Spells), and it sometimes sticks while activating or disengaging, but otherwise functions well. The Rustbolt, Ken's Duel Runner, is made of scrap metal and painted largely a dark green, matching his helmet and jacket. It's named such due to the rusted scrap metal used in its construction. Though it is made using second-hand machinery, making its speed poor, it does have excellent handling. Unlike most modern Duel Runners, which have a built-in Duel Disk due to the portability of modern Duel Disks which can easily fit in a pocket, this Duel Runner is built to require a hybrid Duel Disk, as it lacks the technology of modern Disks.

Biographical Description
Valin was born and raised in the Rat's Nest, learning from an early age to fend for himself. The son of a local crime lord, Valin was abused at a young age, eventually resulting in him running away from home at the age of eleven. From there, he met another young boy who would become a close friend over the years: Dex Bolton. Valin and Dex together began gathering orphans from around the area, beginning with Leah Nevelle, who was Valin's age, and an abandoned infant they named Minn Tenna.
Ken Yutoh was the last to join the family when Valin was fourteen. From there, the five all grew close to one another, Ken and Valin being the most skilled Duelists of them. When together, Ken and Valin could hold their own against most Duel Gang members, often pulling a powerful combo using Valin's "Volspire Dragon" and Ken's "Justice Guardian". But Valin was soon changed. On his eighteenth birthday, he was encountered by New Domino's King of Games, Blade Takashi. Blade and Valin engaged in a friendly Duel once Valin had convinced Blade that he was no gangster, during which Blade had nearly been defeated. Impressed by Valin's skill, Blade offered Valin the option of becoming a professional Duelist, which Valin responded to by saying he would have to consult his friends.
Dex, Ken, and Leah expressed that they would be remorseful to see him go, but that he had been offered something great, and to not turn it down. Ken, as a going-away present, handed Valin "Justice Guardian", saying it would help Valin to remember his friends. Valin accepted the gift, and soon he was gone. He had become a professional Duelist out of nowhere, a sensation among the crowd, defeating every Duelist he was pitted against, becoming more and more impressive as time wore on. Soon he was to challenge Blade Takashi again in a Duel for the title of King of Games.
The Duel was fierce, neither side wanting to give in, but both obliterating the other's defenses in a quick manner. However, unlike last time, Valin had a monster that served to form a hole in Blade's defenses: "Justice Guardian". With the combination Valin was familiar with, "Justice Guardian" combined with the power of "Volspire Dragon", worn and weary, Valin emerged victorious, obtaining the title of King for himself. In his excitement, Valin sent a letter to his friends back in Rat's Nest. That was the last they heard from him. After that, Valin quit communicating with his friends, far too busy to send letters.
It has now been three years since Valin left the Rat's Nest. He and Blade--who is now Director of Security--have formulated the event that would commemorate Valin's three-year anniversary as King: the Satellite Circuit.
Physical Description
Valin has the appearance about him of pride and selfish greed, the traits of a man who has forgotten his humble beginnings. His perfectly treated blonde-brown hair is tied back into a ponytail, while a small goatee is at the tip of his chin. Green eyes combined with angled eyebrows give the aura of a cold personality. A single, small black stud earring is in the lower lobe of his right ear, while his left is unoccupied.
His signature attire is a sleeveless black jacket with red trim which splits at the waist into two, long wing-like tails. Beneath that is a sleeveless red t-shirt with a black claw-like design on its front. Fingerless gauntlets adorn each arm, a small silver stud in each knuckle, and a pair of black trousers and black spiked boots complete the outfit. From his neck hangs a lanyard with a card protector at the end containing his signature card: "Volspire Dragon". He hardly has the wardrobe of a king, looking more like a violent youth. However, he claims, and most of his fans will agree, that the appearance is akin to the King's menacing key card.
When engaged in a Turbo Duel, Valin dons a black helmet with crimson streaks down either side. It comes equipped with a full-face visor to protect him from the overwhelming speeds his Duel Runner can reach, which are the greatest of any authorized Runner. The Runner itself, the Maelstrom Wheel, is state-of-the-art, maximizing at speeds up to 280 km per hour, built not with wheels, but with a gyroscopic sphere that allows for maximum handling and cornering. Its engines and accelerator chip are efficient, but lightweight. Valin's typical color scheme of black and red continues to be reflected in this dragon-like runner, which has two sets of wings: a larger set in the front, and a smaller set toward the rear. This makes the Runner more aerodynamic and capable of short-term flight. Though flight is attainable in this Runner, it is rarely performed due to the lack of aerial handling available. Also adding to the draconic features of this Duel Runner is a dragon head, reminiscent of "Volspire Dragon", on the very front of it. The body of the Runner is longer than standard, but also more narrow, requiring a perfect balance for the use of the gyroscopic sphere it uses for a wheel. Rather than using a Hybrid Duel Disk, the Runner meets modern standards with a built-in Solid Vision with Mass Disk, generating a colored playing field using a miniaturized version of Leo Corporation's Solid Vision with Mass generator in place of the plasma-based LC Standard Duel Disk which could cause burns if not treated with caution.
Similarly, Valin's Duel Disk off the track is a modified version of the KC Standard II Duel Disk, using the SVM generator to project the playing field, making the Disk slightly larger than the LC Standard to accommodate the miniaturized generator. Valin's is a dark gray version, resembling the wing of a Dragon. The playing field projected is black surrounded by red, as the rest of Valin's color scheme.

Episode 1: Rat Race
“New Domino City!” the MC projected over the Kaiba Dome’s intercom. “Get ready! Because today a bold challenge has been issued. The challenger is one you know well here: Nicholas ‘Quick Nick’ O’Neill!”
The man, clothed in solid black leather and an ebony-colored racing helmet that covered all but the lower part of his face, raced his Duel Runner onto the Kaiba Dome track, performing a backflip as he ramped in. He was met with impressive applause and absorbed the limelight, but the crowd had yet to hear whom Nicholas had challenged.
“Now, for Nicholas’ opponent this morning! You’ve watched him Duel for almost three years now, and his anniversary as King will be soon marked with the Satellite Circuit!” Then the crowd erupted into thunder, and it only multiplied as the MC continued to speak. “Here he is! The King of New Domino! The Maelstrom Rider! Give a warm welcome to Valin ROTOR!”
The applause would have been deafening sitting in the stands when Valin’s trademark Duel Runner, the Maelstrom Wheel, came rocketing into the sky from the airlock. The wings of the bike made it easy for Valin to launch himself high into the air and perform a number of stunts, including a barrel roll, that Nick would have been unable to duplicate. When Valin landed, he deactivated his Duel Runner and spoke to the people in the stands using his helmet mike.
“Are you all ready to see a taste of power, today? I have entertained you by toying with my opponents in the past, but today, I feel that you should be allowed to see what power truly lies behind my cards! All who agree, give me your approval!”
The stands roared with applause once more, and Valin smirked. That was his signal. He mounted his Runner once more and gave a nod to the central tower, giving the signal that it was time to start the Duel.
The MC resumed his commentary, “Duelists! Start your engines!” At his command, the Runners roared to life. “Activate ‘Speed World 3’!” The colors of everything but the people and the two Duel Runners at the starting line became bright, and in some cases, even neon. “For anyone watching who is less familiar with Turbo Dueling, ‘Speed World 3’ prevents Duelists from using any Spell card that is not a ‘Speed Spell’ card, and their ability to activate those cards depends on how much speed they are capable of generating during the Duel.
“Now, I hope you’ve got your seatbelts on and are ready to race, because the countdown to begin the Duel has been initiated . . . and they’re off! Remember that the Duelist who reaches the first corner before his opponent is given the first turn. And it’s Valin!”
Valin drew his hand as he made the bend. Nicholas was the only Duelist who ever even came close to out-racing him anymore, and he wasn’t even as much of a challenge as he used to be. Looking at his hand, Valin knew he didn’t even need the Draw Phase of his next turn.
“I Summon ‘Blue-Flame Phoenix’ in Attack Mode!” When Valin declared that, a glowing blue portal opened beside him and the blazing blue bird sprouted from it, singing a beautiful call as it entered the playing field while on Valin’s Duel Screen, its ATK registered in at 1500. “Next I Set one card and end my turn!”
Nicholas began his turn and both players’ Speed Counters rose to one. “I’ll activate the effect of ‘Alpha Dasher’ from my hand and Special Summon it since I control no monsters! Then his effect increases my Speed Counters by one.” As he spoke, the monster dashed out of its own portal into Attack Position, registering with 1300 ATK, and Nicholas’ SPC increased. “Now I activate the effect of the monster, ‘Runner-Up’ in my hand and Special Summon it since my Speed Counters were increased by my monster’s effect; then he proceeds to increase my Speed Counters by one more!”
Following his command, the monster was Summoned with 1100 ATK and his SPC became three. “Now I think it’s time to beat the King at his own game! I combine the power of 1300 ATK ‘Alpha Dasher’ and 1100 ATK ‘Runner-Up’! Become one to create a speed greater than sound! I Ignis Summon the 2400 ATK point ‘Lightning Rider Garu’!”
The two monsters on Nicholas’ field became shining orbs of crimson light which smashed against each other to create a fiery burst from which emerged a monster resembling a motorcyclist with two motorcycle-mounted lances. When the monster came into full view, Nick’s Speed Counters increased again because of the effect of ‘Speed World 3’. “With the effect of ‘Garu’,” Nick continued, “he gains 100 ATK for each of my Speed Counters, adding up for a grand total of 2800! Now, ‘Lightning Rider Garu’, attack ‘Blue-Flame Phoenix’!”
Valin was unfazed as the monster began riding its cycle toward “Blue-Flame Phoenix” at near-blinding speed. In response, all Valin had to do was hit a single button. “I activate ‘Seal of the Doomed’!” Valin retaliated. “Now this card equips to your monster, and it cannot attack for three turns!”
“You won’t best me again, Valin! I vow to it,” Nicholas said. “I Set one card and end my turn!”
“That card won’t get you far,” Valin said as he drew his next card and the turn passed to his Standby Phase and his and Nicholas’ Speed Counters grew by one. “Now the second effect of ‘Seal of the Doomed’ activates and inflicts half of your monster’s ATK to you as direct damage, and since your Speed Counters increased, your monster’s ATK increased as well, so I think that means you take 1450 points of damage!”
The “Seal” radiated a dark electrical energy which struck Nicholas and his Duel Runner, dropping his Life Points from 4000 to 2550, his Speed Counters from 5 to 4, and ‘Garu’s’ ATK to 2800. “I’ll follow that up with my Quick-Play ‘Speed Spell – Broken Engine’! This removes the Speed Counter I just gained and targets your face-down Spell or Trap Card, preventing it from being activated this turn!
“Now,” Valin proceeded, “I Summon my ‘Wyvern Fury’ to my field in Attack Position!” The 1500 ATK point monster spawned out on Valin’s playing field and almost immediately transfigured into a red orb along with “Blue-Flame Phoenix”. “I combine the power of my 1500 ATK ‘Blue-Flame Phoenix’ and ‘Wyvern Fury’! Now behold as the fiery furnace formed from such might forges an unstoppable force! Ignis Summon! Be born from their ashes, ‘Volspire Dragon’!”
Valin whipped the card from his lanyard and slapped it onto the Duel Disk, and immediately the ominous dragon detailed in the card’s artwork sprung to life in the enormous explosion, sailing up and around the central tower of the Kaiba Dome before returning to Valin and his Runner and releasing a triumphant roar.
“It’s time to win this Duel! ‘Volspire Dragon’, attack with Maelstrom Flare!” Valin exclaimed, and the inferno gushed from “Volspire Dragon’s” massive fanged maws, engulfing “Garu”. The attack itself inflicted a further 200 damage to Nicholas’ Life Points, but the damage had not finished there. “This triggers the final effect of ‘Seal of the Doomed’,” Valin explained, “So now, since your monster equipped with this card was destroyed by battle, you take damage equal to half of your monster’s ATK while it was on the field!”
“But that’s 1400!” Nicholas realized, and his Life Points, which had fallen to 2350 from the initial battle damage now dropped just under the red limit to 950, followed by his Speed Counters dropping to 3.
“Time for the finisher! Volspire Dragon’s effect activates, destroying 1 other card on the field, and I’ll target the face-down card I locked down earlier! Go, Volspire Dragon! Obliterate his field with Ravaging Whirlflame!”
“You don’t win by that!” Nicholas sassed.
“But there’s one thing you’re forgetting: the second effect of ‘Broken Engine’. Since the card it pinned down was destroyed by a card effect before the end of my turn, you take 1000 damage!”
“No way!” Nicholas shouted as a hologram made it appear as if the engine on his Duel Runner had exploded, and his Life Points dropped to 0. A buzz filled the stadium and the MC began emphatically relaying the fact that in just one turn, Valin had knocked out all of Nicholas’ Life Points.
Ken slammed his fist against the table when he heard the outcome of Valin Rotor’s most recent Duel. The little radio was immensely outdated by most of today’s technology, but Ken Yutoh was lucky enough to own the radio and a scrapped and recycled Duel Disk along with a pathetic junk heap of a Duel Runner that barely worked.
Ken had known Valin Rotor back before the young man had elevated to the position as King. Apparently, three years ago, the Director of Security had gone missing, and the Assistant Director had no desire to fill the role, turning to the ex-King, Blade Takashi. Blade went out searching for a skilled enough Duelist to take his place and chanced upon Valin in the slums. According to Valin’s account that was only heard by Ken and his friends, Valin had actually been a challenge for Blade, but had come up short of defeating the King.
That was when Valin left. He was given a new face, a new look, and a new ego. Valin had gone from humble to cocky, and soon Dueled Blade once again, this time in public, and emerged victorious. King Blade had lost all reason to maintain his position and entered into the position of Director of Security.
But Ken was still stuck in the slums of the Rat’s Nest, the foulest location in New Domino City. Valin had promised to keep in touch when he had left, and Ken had even gifted him with the “Justice Guardian” Ignis Monster, but Valin had used Justice Guardian a total of two times, and had not contacted his old friends since his elevation to King, leaving Ken with a grudge toward Valin.
“If it just makes you mad, then why do you listen to it?” the voice of a young girl said behind Ken. He turned to find his adopted younger sister, Minn Tenna. Though no one in the “family” was related by blood, they depended on each other to survive just like any normal family. Dex Bolton was the oldest, and was kind of like the oldest brother or, at times, a father to the rest of them, while Leah Nevelle was like the mother of the two younger people. Ken was the second youngest at seventeen, but he had been driving the Duel Runner since he was fourteen, since Sector Security was powerless out here to tell him he was too young.
Minn, however, was only nine. When Ken joined the family seven years ago, he was told that Minn had been with Dex and Leah since she was only a year old. Perhaps her parents had abandoned her, been attacked and had no choice but to leave their daughter, or any number of things here, but regardless, Ken cared about her just as much as he did the other two.
“I listen because I want him to lose. I want him to learn that fame is not everything,” Ken replied, his voice shaky.
“Wanna take the Runner for a spin? That usually clears your head,” Minn asked.
Ken’s face lit up. “Sure, let’s go.” He led Minn into Dex’s workshop, where he seemed to be working on some upgrade for the Duel Runner. “Hey, Dex. Mind if we take the Runner out for a bit? I promise not to wreck it like last time.”
“No problem, just give me a few more seconds with this little tweak here. . . . Done! So how’d Valin’s Duel go today?”
Ken sighed. “He wiped Nicholas out again. This time it was Valin’s second turn.”
“He’s gotten that good? I don’t know whether to be proud of him or upset with him, though. That kid certainly needs an attitude adjustment, though. Anyhow, just don’t go too fast, especially if Minn’s going with you.”
“I won’t, I promise,” Ken said as he and Minn pulled their helmets on and he mounted the runner, helping Minn to climb on behind him. He fired it up and drove out the garage doorway, accelerating just enough to make it out. “Wait a minute!” Ken shouted. “I think Dex just installed a new accelerator chip; check out how fast this thing can go!”
He increased his speed, and he heard Minn squeak behind him. “Ken! What happened to you saying you wouldn’t go too fast?”
“Alright, I’ll slow down,” he assured, but as he did, his front wheel struck something, and the Runner began to swerve. He eventually lost complete control and the Runner flipped, throwing Ken and Minn from the back of it.
Ken landed on his back, winded. As he struggled to regain his breath, he heard voices, and a scream from Minn. He got his feet back under him, still lightheaded, and saw Minn being taken by four members of a Duel Gang. Ken returned to his Duel Runner and got it upright. Though it had suffered a few minor dents, it hadn’t been totaled.
Ken mounted and started the Runner and began his pursuit. Their Runners would have been faster if Dex hadn’t just installed a new accelerator chip. Ken jammed on his accelerator and caught up to the farthest back of the four gangsters, but as he did so, the brute slammed his Runner against Ken’s, sending both Duelists down a side road.
A cool voice said in his helmet, “‘Speed World 3’ activated, Duel Mode engaged.” Unlike most Duel Runners, this one lacked an autopilot feature, which meant Ken would have to multitask. This wouldn’t be his first time Turbo Dueling, but he hoped the pressure of having to save Minn would not cloud his judgment.
“I’ll go first,” the gorilla-like man said. “I summon ‘Rampant Troll’ in Attack Position. Then I Set two cards and end my turn.”
The burly monster looked as thick-skulled as its controller. Then Ken remembered he had seen Dex Duel this guy before. “You’re Lokney, aren’t you?”
“How d’you know my name, runt?”
“We’ve met once before, not that you’d remember. I draw!” Ken was trying to breathe deeply and not overdo the turns while still occasionally glancing at his hand so he’d know what to Summon. The problem was in trying to defeat a 1900 ATK monster. Seeing that he couldn’t overpower the monster, he decided on playing defensively.
“I’ll Summon ‘Treasure Knight’ in Defense Position, so now I get to draw 1 card from my Deck! With thath!” Ken exclaimed, almost losing his balance.
“Hahaha! You should have never gotten involved, kid! Now you will lose! ‘Villainous Tristan’ sends three cards from your Deck to your Graveyard for each Ignis Material used in his Summon. Now that your Deck has lost half its contents, I end my turn.”
He’s right, Ken noticed when he drew and the Deck counter on the Runner’s Duel Screen showed he had nineteen cards remaining. “I Summon ‘Thousand Armor’ in Defense Position! Then I’ll Set one card and end my turn!”
“You’re not going to last much longer like that! I Summon ‘Vampiric Insect’ in Attack Position! When this card is Summoned, it sends two cards from your Deck to your Grave for every DARK monster on my field and negates the effects of any monster it battles this turn!” Ken’s Deck fell four cards in number, while Lokney continued on his way triumphantly. “Now, I activate the effect of my second face-down card, ‘Cards of Dark Omen’! Ken’s Deck fell from fifteen cards to nine. Though he didn’t panic yet, he had to think of some way out. “Battle Phase!” Lokney continued. “‘Vampiric Insect’, attack ‘Thousand Armor’!”
The 1600 ATK huge insect took to the sky and began to descend toward “Thousand Armor”, but Ken was reluctant to let his monster be destroyed because of “Vampiric Insect’s” effect.
“I activate my face-down, ‘Graceful Break’! When your monster attacks with more power than my monster, I destroy your monster and inflict damage to you equal to half its ATK power!”
The insect shattered into a shower of golden pixels that soared at Lokney, dropping his Life Points from 4000 to 3200.
“You won’t save yourself from damage forever! ‘Villainous Tristan’! Attack ‘Thousand Armor’!”
The attack collided with Ken’s monster, and Ken took 2100 points of damage, reducing his Life Points to only 400. Ken let a grunt of fear and stress. “Thanks to its effect, ‘Thousand Armor’ can’t be destroyed by battle twice per turn!” Ken explained.
“Whether it’s destroyed or not, ‘Tristan’s’ last effect sends cards from your Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of cards in your hand!”
Ken was trying not to panic. His Deck was down to only five cards, and his Life Points were a mere tenth of what he had started with. If something didn’t turn around in this next turn, he would lose.

Episode 1: The Pokémon Fair
This was the day. The annual Pokémon Fair had finally arrived in small Newfin Town on the southeastern peninsula of the Sohan Region. Twelve-year-old Sol could hardly contain his excitement. Professor Cherry had come from her laboratory to his small town and was giving away Pokémon to a number of kids his age.
There were three special Pokémon he could pick from if he got to Professor Cherry's stand quickly enough: Seedhog, the Grass-Type Hedgehog Pokémon; Falcoal, the Fire Bird Pokémon; and Pixidrop, the Water Nymph Pokémon. He knew that his friend and next-door neighbor, Luna, would want Pixidrop, no questions asked, so Sol refused to challenge her for that. But there were still two others. He would have to decide when he got there. The sun was up, it was six o'clock in the morning, and Sol was full of excitement.
Pulling on his signature marigold-colored baseball cap and running so fast his satchel trailed behind, the bright-eyed Sol was out the door in a matter of seconds. Then he remembered he had forgotten his shoes, ran back in his house, snatched up his shoes, and hopped toward the door once again while jamming the sneakers on his feet.
"Got everything, honey?" his mom called after him.
"Yes, mom!" Sol said back toward the kitchen where his mother had been.
"Alright. Take care!"
"See you after the fair!" Sol shouted lovingly as he bolted out the door a second time.
Much of the fair was still being set up, but there was one stand that Sol knew would have been up half an hour ago. Almost not stopping himself in time, Sol would have plowed into the kiosk which Professor Cherry stood behind, except that he tripped on a shoelace he had left untied and fell flat on his face in the grass in front of the Pokémon Professor, who sat reading the “Sohan Daily” newspaper. At the sudden collapse of the boy, Professor Cherry stood, peering over the stand at the face-down Sol.
"Oh my goodness! Are you alright?" the blonde-haired Professor exclaimed.
Pushing himself to his feet, Sol clumsily replied, "Um . . . yeah." Brushing the dirt off himself, Sol continued, "Are they still here, ma'am?"
"Are what still here?" Cherry replied.
"The three starters."
"Yes, of course! They're--" she began to explain, but she was interrupted by a second person who had come up behind Sol.
"Way to make an entrance, Sol. In such a rush you can't even keep from falling over."
"Shut up, Astral," Sol retaliated, wheeling around to face the three-inch-taller, sneering bully.
"Are both of you here for your first Pokémon?" Cherry asked.
"You bet," Astral cockily stated.
"Then you'll find the three mainline Starter Pokémon here in these Pokéballs," Cherry explained. "The index cards in front of them tell you which Pokémon is in each. They're first-come, first-served, so young man," she said, gesturing at Sol, "since you were here first, why don't you pick first?"
"Really?" Sol said, his excitement bubbling again. He took a few seconds, looking between the Pokéballs that held Seedhog and Falcoal, and at last reached for Seedhog’s Pokéball.
"Your choice is Seedhog? He'll be a loyal companion. I've heard they're very protective of their trainers if taken care of," she told him.
"Cool," Sol thought aloud. Before he could leave the table, Astral marched up, shoved him aside, and snatched Falcoal's Pokéball off the table.
"Falcoal is yours, Astral? Be careful training that one. They're easily provoked."
"That'll be no problem," Astral said.
"Looks like they'll get along well," Sol muttered, unheard by either of the other two.
"Did I miss them all already?" a feminine voice said wearily. Sol turned, and saw Luna, worn from trying to rush to the stand before her Pokémon-elect had been taken.
"Not all of them," Cherry said, smiling. "There's still Pixidrop, if you'd like that one."
"Would I ever!" Luna exclaimed, her face brightening at the mention of the Pokémon she had so long desired.
"She's yours, then." But before Cherry had even said the words, the Pokéball had been taken up by Luna, who looked like she could burst with happiness. Sol beamed; Luna's joy was too contagious, unless you were Astral. "Now," Cherry continued, "all three of you will be in need of a few things if you're intending to become trainers. Firstly," she produced three oblong red devices from beneath the table, "you'll need the most up-to-date Pokédex. It can record information about virtually any Pokémon by simply scanning it, as well as tell you what attacks and abilities each Pokémon has available to it. I would highly recommend scanning your starter Pokémon into it before you battle."
This was met by statements of interest by Sol and Luna, but Astral merely looked like he was ready to get as far away as possible. Cherry then pulled out the next two kinds of equipment at one time, the first being an emerald-green machine that looked like a touch-screen cellular phone, and the second being a number of mint-condition Pokéballs. "Next, there's the Pokétracker, which functions as a cell phone, GPS, and essentially a multi-purpose computer all at one time. It can even tag Pokémon and track them down using a non-hazardous chip that you launch from the device using a button on the side. Most Pokémon don't even realize it's there, unless they are highly intelligent.
"Then, finally, there are the Pokéballs, which are used as a means to catch Pokémon once you weaken them enough. Of course, once you use a Pokéball, whether it succeeds in the capture or not, it cannot be used again, as it programs itself to be compatible with whatever Pokémon it attempts to capture. My laboratory is, however, developing a special kind of Pokéball called a Recycle Ball, which will be able to be reused after failed attempts at Pokémon capture or after the release of an already captured Pokémon.
"And that, I believe, is the extent of everything. Five Pokéballs apiece. If you ever need to restock, just look for a Pokémon Center. They'll have whatever you need."
Sol had just let his mom see his first Pokémon. The plump little Seedhog stood about knee-height to him, with a long snout and light brown skin. It had no fur, but on its back appeared to be over-sized blades of grass, which were in fact as hard--and sharp, for that matter--as knives, as Sol found out when he had bent to pet it and Seedhog responded by puffing up the spines (or rather, the grass) on its back. Now Sol wore a bandage around his index finger. Apparently Seedhog still had a sense of protection for themselves over their trainers.
Now he also knew what moves the little Pokémon had at its disposal: Tackle, Leer, Leech Seed, and Razor Leaf. He was itching for a battle, but didn't know if he should try against another trainer or a wild Pokémon first. Of course, he would have to leave the comfort of Newfin Town and go out on Route 501 for that, first. Maybe if Astral hadn't left, yet, he would battle him.
And then fate laughed in his face. Not only was Astral still in the town, but he was picking on Luna by the town gate, not letting her go out onto Route 501. Setting his resolve, Sol marched purposefully up to Astral, who had just knocked Luna to her backside, and bravely declared, "Leave her alone!"
Astral, a smug look on his face, turned to Sol. "Yeah? And what'll you do to make me?"
"A Pokémon battle. Right here, right now. I win, and you stop." Sol knew he was out of his mind, but he had to do something. He sure couldn't beat Astral up.
"You're on, runt!"
"No!" Luna shouted. "Sol, Seedhog has a Type disadvantage. Falcoal would win in a heartbeat!"
"I have to do this, Luna. I can't just let him bully you like this."
"Then be ready to lose. Go, Falcoal!" Astral shouted, tossing Falcoal's Pokéball forward. The orb popped open, and after a white flash, the orange and black Fire Bird Pokémon stood in front of the hotheaded bully. Though its wings were too small to allow prolonged flight, it still hopped and flapped its wings, hovering in the air for a couple of seconds before hitting the ground again. Its eyes were narrowed in fierce anger just like its trainer's, and the plume of fire that rose from just above the eyes of its round head only intensified its angry look.
Sol set himself into a ready stance. "Go, Seedhog," he declared, throwing the Pokéball toward the soon-to-be battlefield. The determined hedgehog came out of the Pokéball with a loud shout of its name before landing in front of Sol and almost exactly matching its trainer's stance.
"We'll make short work of you. Falcoal, use Peck!" Astral commanded, and the bird lunged at Seedhog, but Sol was prepared for Astral's direct assault.
"Dodge it with a somersault, Seedhog!" Seedhog obeyed, and rolled underneath Falcoal, turning as Sol shouted the next command. "Now, Tackle!" Seedhog let another shout of its name, and jumped at Falcoal, slamming into it with a huge amount of force.
Falcoal was quick to recover, though, and Astral's command to use Smokescreen was just as swift. The small bird jumped over Seedhog to return to Astral's side, releasing the stream of smoke at the Grass-Type. "Now use Scratch, Falcoal!"
There was no dodging an attack Seedhog couldn't see coming. The small Pokémon burst out of the cloud of smoke with a cry, and collapsed on its back. "It's okay, Seedog, get up and use Razor Leaf!"
Falcoal jumped out of the smoke that was now clearing, intent on another attack on Seedhog, but it was met by a barrage of flying leaves that knocked it back to the ground. "Come on, Falcoal! You can take a hit like that, can't you? Use Peck!" Astral shouted, thinking he had Seedhog in checkmate.
"Don't let him get you, Seedhog! Dodge it with a somersault again, then use Leech Seed!" Sol commanded. He could feel his heart pumping faster than it ever had before. It was now or never.
The bird leaped into the air, and as it descended on Seedhog, the latter barely dodged, then turned and spat three seeds from its mouth that exploded into a net of ivy when they hit Falcoal. Once the attack began sapping Falcoal’s energy, it collapsed, unable to hold itself up.
"Use Smokescreen, you useless bird!" Astral furiously screamed at Falcoal, but all it could do in response was cough a few puffs of smoke.
"You ready, Seedhog? Let's wrap this battle up! Tackle attack!" Sol said; the little Seedhog rammed into Falcoal again, this time knocking the Fire Bird Pokémon out.
"Return, Falcoal," Astral moaned. "Don't think this will be our last battle, Sol. I will defeat you. I'll become the Pokémon Champion, and we'll see who's smiling then." Astral turned and stormed away down Route 501, leaving Sol and Luna to their celebrating.
Fire Emblem: Twin Blades is a fan fiction based as a sequel to the eighth Fire Emblem Game: The Sacred Stones. This will focus around the grandchildren of Ephraim, one of two main characters from The Sacred Stones. Also, for my fanfics, I will be posting detail sheets over characters that basically cover the bare details of a person's backstory, appearance, etc. so that I don't have to spend hours explaining each character in the actual fanfic and so we avoid giving the reader "flashback whiplash." Anyway, might as well start with my Yu-Gi-Oh! OMEGA fanfic (which was initially supposed to be a Roleplay here on this site, but when it failed and I didn't want to give up on it, I decided to rewrite it as a fanfic), starting with writing some character info and other stuff of the like. First episode will be posted soon enough.
Yu-Gi-Oh! OMEGA takes place after Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, the fifth Yu-Gi-Oh! generation, and the most recent to date. Here we return to New Domino City, the heart of the Turbo Duel, where we see a different struggling area of New Domino than the previously run-down Satellite Island from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Now, many years in the future, the Turbo Duel continues to thrive, and though the Fusion and Synchro forms of Summoning are yet enjoyed and the Xyz and Pendulum Summons have made their way to the city, the bulk of New Domino's population has taken a liking to the more modern Ignis Summon, performed when two or more monsters on a player's field have either their ATK or DEF points (varying from card to card) add up to the respective points of one Ignis Monster in the player's Extra Deck.
Ignis Summon
An Ignis Summon is performed by sending two or more monsters from your field to your Graveyard to Special Summon one Ignis Monster from your Extra Deck whose total ATK or DEF is equal to the combined total ATK or DEF of the sent monsters. This explanation, however, is vague at best, and doesn't give much description. Let me pull up an example.
The Ignis Monster "Volspire Dragon" has 3000 ATK and 2300 DEF. The required Ignis Materials for its Summon are listed on the card as "2 or more monsters (ATK)". This means that the total ATK of the sent monsters must add up to 3000, which is Volspire Dragon's ATK. A good example of this would be to send a "Twin-Headed Behemoth" (1500 ATK) and a "Divine Dragon Ragnarok" (1500 ATK) from your field to your Graveyard for the Ignis Summon of Volspire Dragon. Note that if you have activated the effect of "Twin-Headed Behemoth", its ATK is treated as 1000 and this is no longer a valid combination, because just like fluctuation in Level counts during Synchro and Xyz Summons, fluctuations in ATK ad DEF also do the same during Ignis Summons. It is not original ATK, but current ATK.
Similarly, one can use 2 1500 DEF monsters for the Ignis Summon of a 3000 DEF Ignis Monster whose materials read "2 or more monsters (DEF)".
Mono-Synchro
Like Contact Fusion was an add-on to Fusion Summon, Mono-Synchro is an add-on to Synchro Summoning. Mono-Synchro, as the name may suggest, is a form of Synchro Summoning using only one monster, specifically a Tuner. This is done either via the material listing for the Synchro Monster, which would say "1 Tuner monster" as its only material, by the effect of the Synchro Monster, which would usually have a condition and reward for using only 1 Tuner as its only Synchro Material, or via the effect of the Tuner Monster. Regardless, in every instance, the Tuner monster's Level must equal the Level of the Synchro Summoned monster, as you may expect. This makes Level 1 Synchro Monsters possible. Just a random fun-fact.
Biographical Description
Kenneth "Ken" Yutoh is a young boy from the Rat's Nest district of New Domino City. His poverty has kept him and his friends from moving to the more luxurious areas of the city, which he'd be okay with if the only worry of Rat's Nest was where the next pay check came from. Unfortunately, Duel Gangs terrorize and essentially control the area, making life there difficult.
Seven years ago, at the age of ten, was when Ken first joined up with his new "family". Having been orphaned shortly before when his parents had decided to detour through the Rat's Nest and his family had been attacked by a Duel Gang, the other orphans who had joined together were a godsend. Back then, the man named Valin Rotor was also a part of the family. Valin and Ken drew close, as if they were truly brothers. However, when Valin received an invitation to go pro as a Duelist, he didn't decline,and Ken had given Valin his most prized card: "Justice Guardian". Unfortunately, when Valin left, despite promises made, he never returned or spoke to the rest of the family again.
Currently, Ken's family consists of three others: Dex Bolton, who has become a father figure to him; Leah Nevelle, who is like a mother; and Minn Tenna, who acts just like a younger sister to Ken. He has come to love them all as such, and would be willing to protect each of them. Though Ken's Deck is weaker without "Justice Guardian" to back it up, he is still capable of impressive Dueling skills.
Physical Description
Ken's hair is maroon in color with golden bangs. His hair mostly juts out horizontally in eight "spikes" with one strand of jet black hair in each spike, four spikes on each side of his head, the top two curving slightly upward while the rest curve gradually more downward. Four distinct downward-pointing hooks of gold-colored hair form his front layer of bangs, while the second layer consists of three small, upward-pointing, fan-like spikes, each hook and spike having a black strand in it as well. His brows are sharp, and his maroon eyes can give an appearance of anger, but he is truly a gentle-hearted spirit.
Though his poverty makes it nearly impossible to own a fashionable wardrobe, Ken does the best he can to look presentable with what he has. Typically, he can be found with a tattered and slightly faded dark green jacket over a v-neck black t-shirt. Loose denim jeans with a hole in each leg at the knee are held up around his waist by a belt, while white, generic brand tennis shoes are his choice of footwear. On the occasion of riding his Duel Runner, Ken dons an old, dented helmet whose color matches his jacket and whose visor has a crack over his left eye, but it still serves its purpose.
His Duel Disk is an old and rusted Duel Academy disk that he's painted maroon and rigged, with the help of his friend Dex Bolton, to be hybrid and function with his Duel Runner as well as working on its own. Its Field Card Zone is broken (Luckily Ken doesn't use Field Spells), and it sometimes sticks while activating or disengaging, but otherwise functions well. The Rustbolt, Ken's Duel Runner, is made of scrap metal and painted largely a dark green, matching his helmet and jacket. It's named such due to the rusted scrap metal used in its construction. Though it is made using second-hand machinery, making its speed poor, it does have excellent handling. Unlike most modern Duel Runners, which have a built-in Duel Disk due to the portability of modern Duel Disks which can easily fit in a pocket, this Duel Runner is built to require a hybrid Duel Disk, as it lacks the technology of modern Disks.

Biographical Description
Valin was born and raised in the Rat's Nest, learning from an early age to fend for himself. The son of a local crime lord, Valin was abused at a young age, eventually resulting in him running away from home at the age of eleven. From there, he met another young boy who would become a close friend over the years: Dex Bolton. Valin and Dex together began gathering orphans from around the area, beginning with Leah Nevelle, who was Valin's age, and an abandoned infant they named Minn Tenna.
Ken Yutoh was the last to join the family when Valin was fourteen. From there, the five all grew close to one another, Ken and Valin being the most skilled Duelists of them. When together, Ken and Valin could hold their own against most Duel Gang members, often pulling a powerful combo using Valin's "Volspire Dragon" and Ken's "Justice Guardian". But Valin was soon changed. On his eighteenth birthday, he was encountered by New Domino's King of Games, Blade Takashi. Blade and Valin engaged in a friendly Duel once Valin had convinced Blade that he was no gangster, during which Blade had nearly been defeated. Impressed by Valin's skill, Blade offered Valin the option of becoming a professional Duelist, which Valin responded to by saying he would have to consult his friends.
Dex, Ken, and Leah expressed that they would be remorseful to see him go, but that he had been offered something great, and to not turn it down. Ken, as a going-away present, handed Valin "Justice Guardian", saying it would help Valin to remember his friends. Valin accepted the gift, and soon he was gone. He had become a professional Duelist out of nowhere, a sensation among the crowd, defeating every Duelist he was pitted against, becoming more and more impressive as time wore on. Soon he was to challenge Blade Takashi again in a Duel for the title of King of Games.
The Duel was fierce, neither side wanting to give in, but both obliterating the other's defenses in a quick manner. However, unlike last time, Valin had a monster that served to form a hole in Blade's defenses: "Justice Guardian". With the combination Valin was familiar with, "Justice Guardian" combined with the power of "Volspire Dragon", worn and weary, Valin emerged victorious, obtaining the title of King for himself. In his excitement, Valin sent a letter to his friends back in Rat's Nest. That was the last they heard from him. After that, Valin quit communicating with his friends, far too busy to send letters.
It has now been three years since Valin left the Rat's Nest. He and Blade--who is now Director of Security--have formulated the event that would commemorate Valin's three-year anniversary as King: the Satellite Circuit.
Physical Description
Valin has the appearance about him of pride and selfish greed, the traits of a man who has forgotten his humble beginnings. His perfectly treated blonde-brown hair is tied back into a ponytail, while a small goatee is at the tip of his chin. Green eyes combined with angled eyebrows give the aura of a cold personality. A single, small black stud earring is in the lower lobe of his right ear, while his left is unoccupied.
His signature attire is a sleeveless black jacket with red trim which splits at the waist into two, long wing-like tails. Beneath that is a sleeveless red t-shirt with a black claw-like design on its front. Fingerless gauntlets adorn each arm, a small silver stud in each knuckle, and a pair of black trousers and black spiked boots complete the outfit. From his neck hangs a lanyard with a card protector at the end containing his signature card: "Volspire Dragon". He hardly has the wardrobe of a king, looking more like a violent youth. However, he claims, and most of his fans will agree, that the appearance is akin to the King's menacing key card.
When engaged in a Turbo Duel, Valin dons a black helmet with crimson streaks down either side. It comes equipped with a full-face visor to protect him from the overwhelming speeds his Duel Runner can reach, which are the greatest of any authorized Runner. The Runner itself, the Maelstrom Wheel, is state-of-the-art, maximizing at speeds up to 280 km per hour, built not with wheels, but with a gyroscopic sphere that allows for maximum handling and cornering. Its engines and accelerator chip are efficient, but lightweight. Valin's typical color scheme of black and red continues to be reflected in this dragon-like runner, which has two sets of wings: a larger set in the front, and a smaller set toward the rear. This makes the Runner more aerodynamic and capable of short-term flight. Though flight is attainable in this Runner, it is rarely performed due to the lack of aerial handling available. Also adding to the draconic features of this Duel Runner is a dragon head, reminiscent of "Volspire Dragon", on the very front of it. The body of the Runner is longer than standard, but also more narrow, requiring a perfect balance for the use of the gyroscopic sphere it uses for a wheel. Rather than using a Hybrid Duel Disk, the Runner meets modern standards with a built-in Solid Vision with Mass Disk, generating a colored playing field using a miniaturized version of Leo Corporation's Solid Vision with Mass generator in place of the plasma-based LC Standard Duel Disk which could cause burns if not treated with caution.
Similarly, Valin's Duel Disk off the track is a modified version of the KC Standard II Duel Disk, using the SVM generator to project the playing field, making the Disk slightly larger than the LC Standard to accommodate the miniaturized generator. Valin's is a dark gray version, resembling the wing of a Dragon. The playing field projected is black surrounded by red, as the rest of Valin's color scheme.

Episode 1: Rat Race
“New Domino City!” the MC projected over the Kaiba Dome’s intercom. “Get ready! Because today a bold challenge has been issued. The challenger is one you know well here: Nicholas ‘Quick Nick’ O’Neill!”
The man, clothed in solid black leather and an ebony-colored racing helmet that covered all but the lower part of his face, raced his Duel Runner onto the Kaiba Dome track, performing a backflip as he ramped in. He was met with impressive applause and absorbed the limelight, but the crowd had yet to hear whom Nicholas had challenged.
“Now, for Nicholas’ opponent this morning! You’ve watched him Duel for almost three years now, and his anniversary as King will be soon marked with the Satellite Circuit!” Then the crowd erupted into thunder, and it only multiplied as the MC continued to speak. “Here he is! The King of New Domino! The Maelstrom Rider! Give a warm welcome to Valin ROTOR!”
The applause would have been deafening sitting in the stands when Valin’s trademark Duel Runner, the Maelstrom Wheel, came rocketing into the sky from the airlock. The wings of the bike made it easy for Valin to launch himself high into the air and perform a number of stunts, including a barrel roll, that Nick would have been unable to duplicate. When Valin landed, he deactivated his Duel Runner and spoke to the people in the stands using his helmet mike.
“Are you all ready to see a taste of power, today? I have entertained you by toying with my opponents in the past, but today, I feel that you should be allowed to see what power truly lies behind my cards! All who agree, give me your approval!”
The stands roared with applause once more, and Valin smirked. That was his signal. He mounted his Runner once more and gave a nod to the central tower, giving the signal that it was time to start the Duel.
The MC resumed his commentary, “Duelists! Start your engines!” At his command, the Runners roared to life. “Activate ‘Speed World 3’!” The colors of everything but the people and the two Duel Runners at the starting line became bright, and in some cases, even neon. “For anyone watching who is less familiar with Turbo Dueling, ‘Speed World 3’ prevents Duelists from using any Spell card that is not a ‘Speed Spell’ card, and their ability to activate those cards depends on how much speed they are capable of generating during the Duel.
“Now, I hope you’ve got your seatbelts on and are ready to race, because the countdown to begin the Duel has been initiated . . . and they’re off! Remember that the Duelist who reaches the first corner before his opponent is given the first turn. And it’s Valin!”
Valin drew his hand as he made the bend. Nicholas was the only Duelist who ever even came close to out-racing him anymore, and he wasn’t even as much of a challenge as he used to be. Looking at his hand, Valin knew he didn’t even need the Draw Phase of his next turn.
“I Summon ‘Blue-Flame Phoenix’ in Attack Mode!” When Valin declared that, a glowing blue portal opened beside him and the blazing blue bird sprouted from it, singing a beautiful call as it entered the playing field while on Valin’s Duel Screen, its ATK registered in at 1500. “Next I Set one card and end my turn!”
Nicholas began his turn and both players’ Speed Counters rose to one. “I’ll activate the effect of ‘Alpha Dasher’ from my hand and Special Summon it since I control no monsters! Then his effect increases my Speed Counters by one.” As he spoke, the monster dashed out of its own portal into Attack Position, registering with 1300 ATK, and Nicholas’ SPC increased. “Now I activate the effect of the monster, ‘Runner-Up’ in my hand and Special Summon it since my Speed Counters were increased by my monster’s effect; then he proceeds to increase my Speed Counters by one more!”
Following his command, the monster was Summoned with 1100 ATK and his SPC became three. “Now I think it’s time to beat the King at his own game! I combine the power of 1300 ATK ‘Alpha Dasher’ and 1100 ATK ‘Runner-Up’! Become one to create a speed greater than sound! I Ignis Summon the 2400 ATK point ‘Lightning Rider Garu’!”
The two monsters on Nicholas’ field became shining orbs of crimson light which smashed against each other to create a fiery burst from which emerged a monster resembling a motorcyclist with two motorcycle-mounted lances. When the monster came into full view, Nick’s Speed Counters increased again because of the effect of ‘Speed World 3’. “With the effect of ‘Garu’,” Nick continued, “he gains 100 ATK for each of my Speed Counters, adding up for a grand total of 2800! Now, ‘Lightning Rider Garu’, attack ‘Blue-Flame Phoenix’!”
Valin was unfazed as the monster began riding its cycle toward “Blue-Flame Phoenix” at near-blinding speed. In response, all Valin had to do was hit a single button. “I activate ‘Seal of the Doomed’!” Valin retaliated. “Now this card equips to your monster, and it cannot attack for three turns!”
“You won’t best me again, Valin! I vow to it,” Nicholas said. “I Set one card and end my turn!”
“That card won’t get you far,” Valin said as he drew his next card and the turn passed to his Standby Phase and his and Nicholas’ Speed Counters grew by one. “Now the second effect of ‘Seal of the Doomed’ activates and inflicts half of your monster’s ATK to you as direct damage, and since your Speed Counters increased, your monster’s ATK increased as well, so I think that means you take 1450 points of damage!”
The “Seal” radiated a dark electrical energy which struck Nicholas and his Duel Runner, dropping his Life Points from 4000 to 2550, his Speed Counters from 5 to 4, and ‘Garu’s’ ATK to 2800. “I’ll follow that up with my Quick-Play ‘Speed Spell – Broken Engine’! This removes the Speed Counter I just gained and targets your face-down Spell or Trap Card, preventing it from being activated this turn!
“Now,” Valin proceeded, “I Summon my ‘Wyvern Fury’ to my field in Attack Position!” The 1500 ATK point monster spawned out on Valin’s playing field and almost immediately transfigured into a red orb along with “Blue-Flame Phoenix”. “I combine the power of my 1500 ATK ‘Blue-Flame Phoenix’ and ‘Wyvern Fury’! Now behold as the fiery furnace formed from such might forges an unstoppable force! Ignis Summon! Be born from their ashes, ‘Volspire Dragon’!”
Valin whipped the card from his lanyard and slapped it onto the Duel Disk, and immediately the ominous dragon detailed in the card’s artwork sprung to life in the enormous explosion, sailing up and around the central tower of the Kaiba Dome before returning to Valin and his Runner and releasing a triumphant roar.
“It’s time to win this Duel! ‘Volspire Dragon’, attack with Maelstrom Flare!” Valin exclaimed, and the inferno gushed from “Volspire Dragon’s” massive fanged maws, engulfing “Garu”. The attack itself inflicted a further 200 damage to Nicholas’ Life Points, but the damage had not finished there. “This triggers the final effect of ‘Seal of the Doomed’,” Valin explained, “So now, since your monster equipped with this card was destroyed by battle, you take damage equal to half of your monster’s ATK while it was on the field!”
“But that’s 1400!” Nicholas realized, and his Life Points, which had fallen to 2350 from the initial battle damage now dropped just under the red limit to 950, followed by his Speed Counters dropping to 3.
“Time for the finisher! Volspire Dragon’s effect activates, destroying 1 other card on the field, and I’ll target the face-down card I locked down earlier! Go, Volspire Dragon! Obliterate his field with Ravaging Whirlflame!”
“You don’t win by that!” Nicholas sassed.
“But there’s one thing you’re forgetting: the second effect of ‘Broken Engine’. Since the card it pinned down was destroyed by a card effect before the end of my turn, you take 1000 damage!”
“No way!” Nicholas shouted as a hologram made it appear as if the engine on his Duel Runner had exploded, and his Life Points dropped to 0. A buzz filled the stadium and the MC began emphatically relaying the fact that in just one turn, Valin had knocked out all of Nicholas’ Life Points.
Ken slammed his fist against the table when he heard the outcome of Valin Rotor’s most recent Duel. The little radio was immensely outdated by most of today’s technology, but Ken Yutoh was lucky enough to own the radio and a scrapped and recycled Duel Disk along with a pathetic junk heap of a Duel Runner that barely worked.
Ken had known Valin Rotor back before the young man had elevated to the position as King. Apparently, three years ago, the Director of Security had gone missing, and the Assistant Director had no desire to fill the role, turning to the ex-King, Blade Takashi. Blade went out searching for a skilled enough Duelist to take his place and chanced upon Valin in the slums. According to Valin’s account that was only heard by Ken and his friends, Valin had actually been a challenge for Blade, but had come up short of defeating the King.
That was when Valin left. He was given a new face, a new look, and a new ego. Valin had gone from humble to cocky, and soon Dueled Blade once again, this time in public, and emerged victorious. King Blade had lost all reason to maintain his position and entered into the position of Director of Security.
But Ken was still stuck in the slums of the Rat’s Nest, the foulest location in New Domino City. Valin had promised to keep in touch when he had left, and Ken had even gifted him with the “Justice Guardian” Ignis Monster, but Valin had used Justice Guardian a total of two times, and had not contacted his old friends since his elevation to King, leaving Ken with a grudge toward Valin.
“If it just makes you mad, then why do you listen to it?” the voice of a young girl said behind Ken. He turned to find his adopted younger sister, Minn Tenna. Though no one in the “family” was related by blood, they depended on each other to survive just like any normal family. Dex Bolton was the oldest, and was kind of like the oldest brother or, at times, a father to the rest of them, while Leah Nevelle was like the mother of the two younger people. Ken was the second youngest at seventeen, but he had been driving the Duel Runner since he was fourteen, since Sector Security was powerless out here to tell him he was too young.
Minn, however, was only nine. When Ken joined the family seven years ago, he was told that Minn had been with Dex and Leah since she was only a year old. Perhaps her parents had abandoned her, been attacked and had no choice but to leave their daughter, or any number of things here, but regardless, Ken cared about her just as much as he did the other two.
“I listen because I want him to lose. I want him to learn that fame is not everything,” Ken replied, his voice shaky.
“Wanna take the Runner for a spin? That usually clears your head,” Minn asked.
Ken’s face lit up. “Sure, let’s go.” He led Minn into Dex’s workshop, where he seemed to be working on some upgrade for the Duel Runner. “Hey, Dex. Mind if we take the Runner out for a bit? I promise not to wreck it like last time.”
“No problem, just give me a few more seconds with this little tweak here. . . . Done! So how’d Valin’s Duel go today?”
Ken sighed. “He wiped Nicholas out again. This time it was Valin’s second turn.”
“He’s gotten that good? I don’t know whether to be proud of him or upset with him, though. That kid certainly needs an attitude adjustment, though. Anyhow, just don’t go too fast, especially if Minn’s going with you.”
“I won’t, I promise,” Ken said as he and Minn pulled their helmets on and he mounted the runner, helping Minn to climb on behind him. He fired it up and drove out the garage doorway, accelerating just enough to make it out. “Wait a minute!” Ken shouted. “I think Dex just installed a new accelerator chip; check out how fast this thing can go!”
He increased his speed, and he heard Minn squeak behind him. “Ken! What happened to you saying you wouldn’t go too fast?”
“Alright, I’ll slow down,” he assured, but as he did, his front wheel struck something, and the Runner began to swerve. He eventually lost complete control and the Runner flipped, throwing Ken and Minn from the back of it.
Ken landed on his back, winded. As he struggled to regain his breath, he heard voices, and a scream from Minn. He got his feet back under him, still lightheaded, and saw Minn being taken by four members of a Duel Gang. Ken returned to his Duel Runner and got it upright. Though it had suffered a few minor dents, it hadn’t been totaled.
Ken mounted and started the Runner and began his pursuit. Their Runners would have been faster if Dex hadn’t just installed a new accelerator chip. Ken jammed on his accelerator and caught up to the farthest back of the four gangsters, but as he did so, the brute slammed his Runner against Ken’s, sending both Duelists down a side road.
A cool voice said in his helmet, “‘Speed World 3’ activated, Duel Mode engaged.” Unlike most Duel Runners, this one lacked an autopilot feature, which meant Ken would have to multitask. This wouldn’t be his first time Turbo Dueling, but he hoped the pressure of having to save Minn would not cloud his judgment.
“I’ll go first,” the gorilla-like man said. “I summon ‘Rampant Troll’ in Attack Position. Then I Set two cards and end my turn.”
The burly monster looked as thick-skulled as its controller. Then Ken remembered he had seen Dex Duel this guy before. “You’re Lokney, aren’t you?”
“How d’you know my name, runt?”
“We’ve met once before, not that you’d remember. I draw!” Ken was trying to breathe deeply and not overdo the turns while still occasionally glancing at his hand so he’d know what to Summon. The problem was in trying to defeat a 1900 ATK monster. Seeing that he couldn’t overpower the monster, he decided on playing defensively.
“I’ll Summon ‘Treasure Knight’ in Defense Position, so now I get to draw 1 card from my Deck! With thath!” Ken exclaimed, almost losing his balance.
“Hahaha! You should have never gotten involved, kid! Now you will lose! ‘Villainous Tristan’ sends three cards from your Deck to your Graveyard for each Ignis Material used in his Summon. Now that your Deck has lost half its contents, I end my turn.”
He’s right, Ken noticed when he drew and the Deck counter on the Runner’s Duel Screen showed he had nineteen cards remaining. “I Summon ‘Thousand Armor’ in Defense Position! Then I’ll Set one card and end my turn!”
“You’re not going to last much longer like that! I Summon ‘Vampiric Insect’ in Attack Position! When this card is Summoned, it sends two cards from your Deck to your Grave for every DARK monster on my field and negates the effects of any monster it battles this turn!” Ken’s Deck fell four cards in number, while Lokney continued on his way triumphantly. “Now, I activate the effect of my second face-down card, ‘Cards of Dark Omen’! This card switches the battle position of all monsters you control while I control a DARK monster with 2000 or more ATK and sends two cards from your Deck to the Grave for each monster on the field!”
Ken’s Deck fell from fifteen cards to nine. Though he didn’t panic yet, he had to think of some way out. “Battle Phase!” Lokney continued. “‘Vampiric Insect’, attack ‘Thousand Armor’!”
The 1600 ATK huge insect took to the sky and began to descend toward “Thousand Armor”, but Ken was reluctant to let his monster be destroyed because of “Vampiric Insect’s” effect.
“I activate my face-down, ‘Graceful Break’! When your monster attacks with more power than my monster, I destroy your monster and inflict damage to you equal to half its ATK power!”
The insect shattered into a shower of golden pixels that soared at Lokney, dropping his Life Points from 4000 to 3200.
“You won’t save yourself from damage forever! ‘Villainous Tristan’! Attack ‘Thousand Armor’!”
The attack collided with Ken’s monster, and Ken took 2100 points of damage, reducing his Life Points to only 400. Ken let a grunt of fear and stress. “Thanks to its effect, ‘Thousand Armor’ can’t be destroyed by battle twice per turn!” Ken explained.
“Whether it’s destroyed or not, ‘Tristan’s’ last effect sends cards from your Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of cards in your hand!”
Ken was trying not to panic. His Deck was down to only five cards, and his Life Points were a mere tenth of what he had started with. If something didn’t turn around in this next turn, he would lose.

Distinctions: Grass-like spines on head and back that change color with the seasons.
Gender Differences: Males tend to have shorter spines and are typically plumper than females.
Evolution Tree: Seedhog -> Herbhog -> Geopine
Other Notes: Seedhog are highly defensive creatures, using their spines to defend themselves from predators. They are also very courageous, willing to stand up to opponents as much as ten times its size to prove its loyalty.

Other Notes: Falcoal are arrogant, quick to pick fights, and overall a stubborn Pokémon. The angrier they are, the hotter and brighter their plumes will burn.

Episode 1: The Pokémon Fair
This was the day. The annual Pokémon Fair had finally arrived in small Newfin Town on the southeastern peninsula of the Sohan Region. Twelve-year-old Sol could hardly contain his excitement. Professor Cherry had come from her laboratory to his small town and was giving away Pokémon to a number of kids his age.
There were three special Pokémon he could pick from if he got to Professor Cherry's stand quickly enough: Seedhog, the Grass-Type Hedgehog Pokémon; Falcoal, the Fire Bird Pokémon; and Pixidrop, the Water Nymph Pokémon. He knew that his friend and next-door neighbor, Luna, would want Pixidrop, no questions asked, so Sol refused to challenge her for that. But there were still two others. He would have to decide when he got there. The sun was up, it was six o'clock in the morning, and Sol was full of excitement.
Pulling on his signature marigold-colored baseball cap and running so fast his satchel trailed behind, the bright-eyed Sol was out the door in a matter of seconds. Then he remembered he had forgotten his shoes, ran back in his house, snatched up his shoes, and hopped toward the door once again while jamming the sneakers on his feet.
"Got everything, honey?" his mom called after him.
"Yes, mom!" Sol said back toward the kitchen where his mother had been.
"Alright. Take care!"
"See you after the fair!" Sol shouted lovingly as he bolted out the door a second time.
Much of the fair was still being set up, but there was one stand that Sol knew would have been up half an hour ago. Almost not stopping himself in time, Sol would have plowed into the kiosk which Professor Cherry stood behind, except that he tripped on a shoelace he had left untied and fell flat on his face in the grass in front of the Pokémon Professor, who sat reading the “Sohan Daily” newspaper. At the sudden collapse of the boy, Professor Cherry stood, peering over the stand at the face-down Sol.
"Oh my goodness! Are you alright?" the blonde-haired Professor exclaimed.
Pushing himself to his feet, Sol clumsily replied, "Um . . . yeah." Brushing the dirt off himself, Sol continued, "Are they still here, ma'am?"
"Are what still here?" Cherry replied.
"The three starters."
"Yes, of course! They're--" she began to explain, but she was interrupted by a second person who had come up behind Sol.
"Way to make an entrance, Sol. In such a rush you can't even keep from falling over."
"Shut up, Astral," Sol retaliated, wheeling around to face the three-inch-taller, sneering bully.
"Are both of you here for your first Pokémon?" Cherry asked.
"You bet," Astral cockily stated.
"Then you'll find the three mainline Starter Pokémon here in these Pokéballs," Cherry explained. "The index cards in front of them tell you which Pokémon is in each. They're first-come, first-served, so young man," she said, gesturing at Sol, "since you were here first, why don't you pick first?"
"Really?" Sol said, his excitement bubbling again. He took a few seconds, looking between the Pokéballs that held Seedhog and Falcoal, and at last reached for Seedhog’s Pokéball.
"Your choice is Seedhog? He'll be a loyal companion. I've heard they're very protective of their trainers if taken care of," she told him.
"Cool," Sol thought aloud. Before he could leave the table, Astral marched up, shoved him aside, and snatched Falcoal's Pokéball off the table.
"Falcoal is yours, Astral? Be careful training that one. They're easily provoked."
"That'll be no problem," Astral said.
"Looks like they'll get along well," Sol muttered, unheard by either of the other two.
"Did I miss them all already?" a feminine voice said wearily. Sol turned, and saw Luna, worn from trying to rush to the stand before her Pokémon-elect had been taken.
"Not all of them," Cherry said, smiling. "There's still Pixidrop, if you'd like that one."
"Would I ever!" Luna exclaimed, her face brightening at the mention of the Pokémon she had so long desired.
"She's yours, then." But before Cherry had even said the words, the Pokéball had been taken up by Luna, who looked like she could burst with happiness. Sol beamed; Luna's joy was too contagious, unless you were Astral. "Now," Cherry continued, "all three of you will be in need of a few things if you're intending to become trainers. Firstly," she produced three oblong red devices from beneath the table, "you'll need the most up-to-date Pokédex. It can record information about virtually any Pokémon by simply scanning it, as well as tell you what attacks and abilities each Pokémon has available to it. I would highly recommend scanning your starter Pokémon into it before you battle."
This was met by statements of interest by Sol and Luna, but Astral merely looked like he was ready to get as far away as possible. Cherry then pulled out the next two kinds of equipment at one time, the first being an emerald-green machine that looked like a touch-screen cellular phone, and the second being a number of mint-condition Pokéballs. "Next, there's the Pokétracker, which functions as a cell phone, GPS, and essentially a multi-purpose computer all at one time. It can even tag Pokémon and track them down using a non-hazardous chip that you launch from the device using a button on the side. Most Pokémon don't even realize it's there, unless they are highly intelligent.
"Then, finally, there are the Pokéballs, which are used as a means to catch Pokémon once you weaken them enough. Of course, once you use a Pokéball, whether it succeeds in the capture or not, it cannot be used again, as it programs itself to be compatible with whatever Pokémon it attempts to capture. My laboratory is, however, developing a special kind of Pokéball called a Recycle Ball, which will be able to be reused after failed attempts at Pokémon capture or after the release of an already captured Pokémon.
"And that, I believe, is the extent of everything. Five Pokéballs apiece. If you ever need to restock, just look for a Pokémon Center. They'll have whatever you need."
Sol had just let his mom see his first Pokémon. The plump little Seedhog stood about knee-height to him, with a long snout and light brown skin. It had no fur, but on its back appeared to be over-sized blades of grass, which were in fact as hard--and sharp, for that matter--as knives, as Sol found out when he had bent to pet it and Seedhog responded by puffing up the spines (or rather, the grass) on its back. Now Sol wore a bandage around his index finger. Apparently Seedhog still had a sense of protection for themselves over their trainers.
Now he also knew what moves the little Pokémon had at its disposal: Tackle, Leer, Leech Seed, and Razor Leaf. He was itching for a battle, but didn't know if he should try against another trainer or a wild Pokémon first. Of course, he would have to leave the comfort of Newfin Town and go out on Route 501 for that, first. Maybe if Astral hadn't left, yet, he would battle him.
And then fate laughed in his face. Not only was Astral still in the town, but he was picking on Luna by the town gate, not letting her go out onto Route 501. Setting his resolve, Sol marched purposefully up to Astral, who had just knocked Luna to her backside, and bravely declared, "Leave her alone!"
Astral, a smug look on his face, turned to Sol. "Yeah? And what'll you do to make me?"
"A Pokémon battle. Right here, right now. I win, and you stop." Sol knew he was out of his mind, but he had to do something. He sure couldn't beat Astral up.
"You're on, runt!"
"No!" Luna shouted. "Sol, Seedhog has a Type disadvantage. Falcoal would win in a heartbeat!"
"I have to do this, Luna. I can't just let him bully you like this."
"Then be ready to lose. Go, Falcoal!" Astral shouted, tossing Falcoal's Pokéball forward. The orb popped open, and after a white flash, the orange and black Fire Bird Pokémon stood in front of the hotheaded bully. Though its wings were too small to allow prolonged flight, it still hopped and flapped its wings, hovering in the air for a couple of seconds before hitting the ground again. Its eyes were narrowed in fierce anger just like its trainer's, and the plume of fire that rose from just above the eyes of its round head only intensified its angry look.
Sol set himself into a ready stance. "Go, Seedhog," he declared, throwing the Pokéball toward the soon-to-be battlefield. The determined hedgehog came out of the Pokéball with a loud shout of its name before landing in front of Sol and almost exactly matching its trainer's stance.
"We'll make short work of you. Falcoal, use Peck!" Astral commanded, and the bird lunged at Seedhog, but Sol was prepared for Astral's direct assault.
"Dodge it with a somersault, Seedhog!" Seedhog obeyed, and rolled underneath Falcoal, turning as Sol shouted the next command. "Now, Tackle!" Seedhog let another shout of its name, and jumped at Falcoal, slamming into it with a huge amount of force.
Falcoal was quick to recover, though, and Astral's command to use Smokescreen was just as swift. The small bird jumped over Seedhog to return to Astral's side, releasing the stream of smoke at the Grass-Type. "Now use Scratch, Falcoal!"
There was no dodging an attack Seedhog couldn't see coming. The small Pokémon burst out of the cloud of smoke with a cry, and collapsed on its back. "It's okay, Seedog, get up and use Razor Leaf!"
Falcoal jumped out of the smoke that was now clearing, intent on another attack on Seedhog, but it was met by a barrage of flying leaves that knocked it back to the ground. "Come on, Falcoal! You can take a hit like that, can't you? Use Peck!" Astral shouted, thinking he had Seedhog in checkmate.
"Don't let him get you, Seedhog! Dodge it with a somersault again, then use Leech Seed!" Sol commanded. He could feel his heart pumping faster than it ever had before. It was now or never.
The bird leaped into the air, and as it descended on Seedhog, the latter barely dodged, then turned and spat three seeds from its mouth that exploded into a net of ivy when they hit Falcoal. Once the attack began sapping Falcoal’s energy, it collapsed, unable to hold itself up.
"Use Smokescreen, you useless bird!" Astral furiously screamed at Falcoal, but all it could do in response was cough a few puffs of smoke.
"You ready, Seedhog? Let's wrap this battle up! Tackle attack!" Sol said; the little Seedhog rammed into Falcoal again, this time knocking the Fire Bird Pokémon out.
"Return, Falcoal," Astral moaned. "Don't think this will be our last battle, Sol. I will defeat you. I'll become the Pokémon Champion, and we'll see who's smiling then." Astral turned and stormed away down Route 501, leaving Sol and Luna to their celebrating.
