Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this son of York;
And all the clouds that lour'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

The kingdom of Verzweiflung rests after one of its most bloody and family splitting wars it's country has seen. A civil war between the ruling House Telmond and the rebellious House York. The civil war was caused for two main reasons among other small reasons held to heart by each individual. The first being a bad blood between House Telmond and House York. During a war against a country on a neighbouring continent called Svek House Telmond decided to fight against Verzweiflung and for Svek, angering more than just House York. But alas, House York and Verzweiflung lost this war and House Telmond was made acting ruler of Verzweiflung. Many years after, the Houses of Verzweiflung fought a war against Svek under Telmond's guidance to relieve themselves of the regulations, religion and garrisons of Svek that plagued their much loved country. They won said war and House Telmond was no longer acting ruler and were made kings and queens. Another reason was the bad ruling skills of the most recent king of House Telmond. He was no more than a boy when he became king and was too proud to accept a regent to rule for him until he was a small bit older. He let the power go to his head and drove the kingdom into poverty and despair, the perfect situation for a civil war. House York gained an enormous amount of support from just about every House along with the majority of the peasantry in their war for the crown. House Telmonds forces were great in number though, and they managed to recruit a few Houses to fight with them. The war lasted two years and ended with the stabbing of the boy king by the new Chamberlain of House York, Walter of Abercomb. The kingdom is in a time of peace at the moment, with crops growing plentifully and disease at an all time low. The monarchy is loved by most if not all at the moment, but this, like a lot of other things, can change very quickly if need be.

Hello, this is a roleplay about a kingdom just after a civil war akin to the war of the roses. As you can tell from the opening quote I'm basing some of this from Richard III and will allow people to base characters from people from history or other works of fiction as long as they change certain aspects of the character, the first being their name. The roleplay will take place mostly on the large hilltop castle that towers over the city of Learchester. The castle houses more than just the castle itself, its walls expand to protect a small farm along with guest housing for friends of the monarchy if there is no space within the castle.

Name: Walter York of Abercomb
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Appearance:

Weapons: He carries a falchion sword on his hip and a dagger on his boot.
Skills:
- Great military general
- Rather good with his falchion despite his disabilities
- Good with money
Personality:
Walter is a cunning and quick thinking man, he'd have to be to not be looked down upon for his disabilities. He has grown to be a favourite in the monarchy among the peasants for his favour towards them as he believes that no one among the high class looks upon him with as much respect as they would towards a common squire and therefore acts favourably towards the peasants who treat him like a proper noble. He generally acts in a jovial manner except, of course, for when a situation turns serious in which case he acts as seriously as the situation should demand.
Biography:
Walter was born on a misty day in Abercomb. It took a small amount of time for his parents and the helpers present to realize what was wrong with him. His left arm was withered and smaller than the right, and he had a slight hunchback, suffice to say no birthright would make his parents allow him to become king. He grew up under the scorn of his father and the depression of his mother, both only lifted whenever a sibling of his was born. During his teen years he felt a fair amount of hatred towards his siblings, but that soon faded when he entered the military. 'Enter' is a rather generous word for what actually happened. He was more forced into it by his father than he entered it. His father had hoped he would suffer some grievous wound and fall dead on some battlefield in Svek, but Walter would not let that happen, he would dare to prove his father wrong and rise through the ranks until he was respected more than even his father. His plan went surprisingly well. He was rather good with a falchion and would more often than not be avoided on a battlefield for want of a better fight. This allowed him to save many a life and kill many too. He grew throughout the army much quicker than anyone ever thought he would and when it came to the civil war, his growth would finally halt.

Walter played a pivotal role in the civil war, he acted as a tactician and on the battlefield as a mounted unit. His tactics helped many unwinnable battles be won, and the presence of a member of the royal family on the battlefield boosted the morale of the troops by ensuring that they knew that the royal family were not just in this as people there to reap the benefits of the pawns. His 'crowning' moment was when he and a small unit of footmen, infiltrated the Telmond castle and assassinated the boy king with a falchion through the heart. What followed after was his sibling becoming the monarch and him becoming the Lord Protector. He was also made chamberlain for a short time to sort out the royal bank along with lands and taxation. The monarch still has complete control over the kingdom, but for now Walter is making a lot of the decisions.
Other:
