I carefully controlled my expression, revealing nothing. The look Mizu was giving me was far too familiar, far too close to pity for my taste. Whether or not it was genuine didn't matter. "The people of this world deserve to be... beaten," I wrote, inwardly rolling my eyes at the euphemism. Yet for a moment, I reflected on my situation. I had killed so many people in the past couple of weeks... it didn't feel real. After all, they had just been people I'd seen online and on TV. Yet people were after me for it now. It was too late to stop. Perhaps Mizu was in the same situation...

The look Mizu gave me as she passed me the note was different from the expressions she'd shown before. Apparently, I had upset her. Better to apologize than to make her angry, even if I had every reason to be suspicious. "Sorry, I'm paranoid," I wrote, "I've... been through things. I'm sure you heard." I felt the heat rising to my cheeks as I wrote. I never discussed my past, not with anyone... but what choice did I have? Mizu could kill me easily, though of course, I could do the same to her...
