I think I wasn't clear, what I meant was: Eli's cage has a plate with human food (fruit, bread, meat etc.) and a human bed. Gao's cage has both human food as well as dog food. His choice. Same goes to his bed. The idea was that the guy who furnished the cage didn't know what was apropriate so he did both.

Gao can still be offended, but he doesn't have to eat it if he doesn't want to :P
Of course you can also just say he didn't spot the human food.

Algon stood in front of Eli and chuckled as Charlie removed the keys from Eli and put them in on a silver platter next to some new glasses of wine. The platter was held by the small butler guy, no one had noticed him following, no one cared.
"So this is the kid who took over the Spirit realm in a couple of days?"
Algon inspected him. "An impressive feat indeed. We were hoping you could do another. Once I have all the things I need of course"
It was clear Eli was tired, he hadn't had a chance to sleep.
"But that might take a day or two, and letting you hang there isn't the best way to get you your strength back. But at least now we know they fit."

Charlie disconnected the cuffs from the machine and connected them behind Eli's back. After disconnecting his feet he guided Eli towards a large steel cage a few meters away from the device. In the cage was a large bed and some other furniture, like a chair, a bookcase with literature Algon though Eli would enjoy, a plate of food.

Gao had a similar cage, but next to his bed was a dogs basket and next to his meal was a canister of dog food. It was pretty clear that whoever filled these cages didn't really know what to expect.

"Thank you Charles. Now you stay here for a while and I'll hold on to these." Algon smugly held the plate with the keys while he took a glass of wine from it and sipped it slowly.

"As for where you are, this is the basement below Wendigo Wail headquarters. As for what's going on: you, Eli, are my, Algon's captive. I'm going to need your specific... properties, among other things."
