Current Ever had that moment were you've just lost a battle of wills with your dog and think to yourself, "maybe I should be the one sleeping on the floor"? I have. It's oddly liberating.

My Lit Lecturer used Matt Fraction's Hawkeye run to display the effect of narratology in class today. It's the first thing he's spoken about all term that I've actually read.

How good is the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil series? "Just some guys who are about to walk into a diner for the last time." That line is so manly it could make a toddler sprout a beard.

The Justice League trailer is giving me mixed emotions. On the one hand, I desperately want to get hyped. On the other, Snyder and co have burnt me too many times in the past. I'm a conflicted mess.

Superman, Batman, Goku, He-Man and Conan would like to have a word with you lol! Anyway I prefer him without the beard and i wasn't really found of the hook hand he had. I really like the New 52 look they gave him

They can if they want, but I've got a beard so I'm probably too manly for them.

I agree, his new 52 look (which to me is pretty close to his classic design.) is pretty good, I just think he needs to be bearded. The pic I used for my CS was the closest thing to his new 52/Classic design with a beard that I could find.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aquaman is too manly to be clean shaven Yog!
So this is it, huh? Some of the most powerful, dedicated, and fashion challenged men and woman on the planet, all gathered into one room. Daniel woulda loved this. Tommy Springsteen, better known as the lightning-slinging hero 'Hi-Voltage', stood a little apart from his supposed peers, content at the moment to merely watch the others in their interactions. Truth be told he felt that even if did desire to speak to them that he would struggle to find any common ground with the assemblage, besides the obvious fact that they all had far too much time on their hands.

Arms folded across his chest, he wondered to himself if he'd ever felt so out of place in his life? Did they do what they did out of a genuine desire to do good? Or were they more like British-Bulldog, fighting the 'good fight' in the pursuit of personal fame, glory and riches. Or like him were they driven by regret and shame, tortured by some mistake in their past. Did they feel a pang of guilt every time they heard their name in the news, or avert their gaze from every picture of themselves righting some wrong, feeling that it could never be enough? God I hope so. Surely I can't be the only bastard in this room, I mean look at that guy wearing full motorcycle leathers and helmet on a day like today! That nutcase looks like he gets his kicks by punching kittens.

The simple truth was that Tommy was feeling a bit self-conscious, standing just outside of this crowd wearing his supersuit. He had gotten used to wearing the distinctive, figure-hugging, blue jumpsuit in public, but here it was different. Here everyone else had their own costume, and he was sure they could see him for what he really was, a sheep in wolfs clothing.

What made him stay though was the fact that he was certain that most everybody else here was thinking the same thing. Sure, some of them probably got a kick outta wearing a costume and being the idol of millions of regular people, but Volt reckoned a lot of the people here had probably come to the same conclusion he had; that the public liked their heroes to look like heroes. It made them feel safe. Or at least he hoped that was the reason, and he wasn't actually surrounded by a group of superpowered cosplayers. He'd seen enough of that nerd shit with Daniel to last him a lifetime.

And besides, he didn't have anything to prove to anyone here. He'd been at the hero game for as long as anyone else, longer than most, so he knew he'd paid his dues. Besides, I'm not here for them. I'm here for Obsidian, and they're a means to that end.

So he stood there, listening to crap elevator music, waiting for the three founders to get this show on the road and trying not to draw any attention to himself. Not that's going to be difficult in this crowd, even while wearing this get-up.
The titanic struggle between the Sea-King and the giant robot continued on even after Robin had left to finish her mission, both sides vying to end the temporary stalemate. So great was the robots effort to crush Aquaman that the metal beneath his feet had began to give, bending under the force. It'll break before I tire. Long before Arthur told himself, setting his shoulders and working himself into his task.

BOOM! Another mighty explosion, louder than the others, seemed to rock his position. It was so close that he could feel the heat from the blast. Queen or Bruce? It took him a second to realise that the pressure from the arm had suddenly decreased dramatically. He took a quizzical look round to realise that the explosion must have detached the robots arm at the elbow, so now the only thing holding the tattered remains in the air was Aquaman himself. He tossed the now useless appendage into the water underneath them, slightly annoyed that his contest with the robot had been interrupted. He could have beaten the alien machine on his own, even if it would have taken longer. Still, that was what the League was about, supporting each other, even if the support wasn't appreciated.

"Now we're even!" So it WAS Bruce who had intervened. A tight smile broke Arthur's grim visage. Bruce hated being in other's debts so much that it probably almost physically hurt him to think that he might owe Arthur for saving Robin. The thing was, Batman would have fired his missiles even if Aquaman hadn't just saved his sidekick, just now he could shrug it off as 'repaying the favour'.

"Are we counting Batman? Because if we are its four to three in my favour, or have you forgotten when I stopped Amazo from kicking you into the sun?" Arthur replied as he dived off the side of the robot into the sea seconds after Superman ended the fight. He resurfaced just in time to see the machine crash into the water, watching silently as it sank between the waves. The King of the Seas would later approach Batman, offering his help in locating and salvaging the mechanical menace. The thought of something that alien in his oceans was a worrying one, not knowing what damages it could cause to the waters or local marine life. He would be much happier once it was out of harms way.

But that is the way of things. The Justice League comes together to face these kind of threats, but it is left to me to protect the waters of this planet. All the leagues combined might to serve the barest fraction of our world.

He heard Green Lantern say the machine was from Colu, a planet Arthur had never heard of. Not that he knew much about any of the planets past the borders of his own solar system, but he was surprised Green Lantern had never heard of it. Hal had once told him that his ring could tap into all the combined knowledge of the Guardian's of the Galaxy, and they were supposed to be all knowing. The fact that she couldn't shine any light on the robots origins lended the confrontation an even more sinister edge.

"The machine seemed fixated on you Superman," noted Arthur "Have you any ideas why?"
Aquaman and Dick Grayson are my favourites, though what they've done recently with making Dick a spy is a bit off. I just wish that, despite how much I like him, they'd let Bruce Wayne actually die so his former sidekicks could have some real development!

And I agree, Aquaman should always have a beard!
I've added a small piece to my CS, just mentioning that he has worked with Dblade26's character Strix in the past.
Guys. . .

Our Justice League kicks ass!
CRAAACKKK - The robots remaining, frozen tendrils shattered apart, forcing Aquaman to jump clear of his now precarious footing for a more solid footing aboard it's shoulder. Clearly the metal monstrosity was nowhere near powerful enough to restrain the Man of Steel. Is anything? thought Arthur. One of the things he admired most about Clark was the Kryptonian's iron determination, the strength to take whatever was thrown at him and keep one going. Darkseid had learnt that the hard way, and judging by the way that he had just broken cloud cover and entered the rejuvenating light of the sun, Superman was about to teach this robot the same lesson.

Not in any immediate danger Arthur paused to take stock of his allies positions and the state of their enemy. Shifter was thrown clear of the bot, but had quickly returned to the offensive, morphing into a large shark and attacking the feet. Good choice Shifter, the more angles this giant has to defend from the better. Batman was doing strafing runs, probably while formulating thousands of strategies to take down the villain. Green Arrow was firing missle after missle, no doubt his diverse range of arrows taking a hefty toll upon their enemy. A young female Robin, one Arthur had never met before, was jetting up to the robot waving an arrow in her fist. Arthur was one of the few members of the league who also trained young sidekicks (No doubt Aqualad would be disappointed that his king had left him behind for this adventure) but this girl didn't look like Bruce's usual type of partner, but she gamely scaled the robot, using Queen's arrows and her jetpack in tandem. Once she reached the top she began to traverse the bot, clearly looking for something. So intent was her searching that she missed the robots other arm, undamaged so far, looming above her, ready to squash the sidekick.

Aquaman sped to her side, catching the robots palm in both hands. It's strength was extraordinary, and for one terrifying second he felt like he AND Robin where both about to be crushed. A low groan of pain became a growl of determination as the King of Atlantis managed to brace himself, locking his arms and refusing to budge another inch. You might be strong monster, but I'm stronger. . .

"Whatever you're doing Robin, do it quick!" he commanded through gritted teeth. Out of the corner of his eyes he could see Superman and Wonder Woman battling more tentacles. This can't last much longer, not now they are both on the scene.
Cheers.
Name: Thomas Springsteen

Codename: Hi-Voltage, but goes by Volt for short.

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Place of Birth: Inverness, Scotland

Affiliations: He has a good working relationship with Britain's police force, who seem to embrace him as their 'superpowered' backup, despite him technically being a vigilante. Clara Lord, his ex-girlfriend, is a fully trained nurse, and has patched him up on more than one occasion. Szymon Glowski, an IT consultant he once saved from a mugging, provides him with 'cyber' back up, such as hacking, tracking and even setting up a Hi-Voltage fansite. As far as superpowered allies go he has been involved in a few team-ups but seems content to work alone for the most part, making his acceptance of the Leagues invitations surprising. He and vigilante Strix have worked together in the past.

Occupation: Electrical engineer.

Appearance: Tommy stands at 6'3", with what appears to be a slight build. This is misleading however, as his body is covered in lean muscle. His shoulder length blonde hair is a constant wavy mess, due to a mixture of his hi-octane antics and general lack of presentation. He usually has either blonde stubble or a beard, depending if he has bothered to shave or not. His face is not the typical one expected of a hero, all sharp lines and hard angles, his cheek bones a little too high and his chin too sharp to be designated 'friendly'. His smile is infectious however, serving to brighten his demeanour greatly, and his summer blue eyes generate a friendly warmth.

Hi-Voltage's supersuit is composed of a dark blue, form fitting jumpsuit, zipped up the front. He usually leaves the zipper, a decorative lightening bolt, open just below the throat. The suit is decorated with two lighter blue lightening bolts that go from his chest are, arching over his shoulders, then reaching down to the small of his back. Another bolt wraps around his waist, like a stylised belt. His calf-high military boots and paramilitary gloves are the same shade of blue as the lightening on his suit. His identity is concealed by a pair of aviator style motorcycle goggles with reflecting lenses that he wears over a broad domino mask.

Powers: Tommy has the ability to create and manipulate electrical energy. Since the Awakening his body has become a biological 'electrical generator' of sorts. As his body metabolises food it also creates vast quantitys of electrical energy. He can use the energy in his body for a vareity of things, most commonly using it to fire bolts of electricity, but also being able to give off EMP's and have low level control over the forces of magnetism.
His supercharged body gives him low levels of super-strength, speed and endurance, and incredibly high reaction times.
Tommy can drain the charge from electrical equipment to replenish his own supply of energy. He can drain outside sources of electricity to replenish his stamina, and can even use it to speed up his recovery from injuries. He can naturally sense if an area is rich in electrial energy or not. The more electricity his body has stored the more powerful he becomes, though after a certain point storing the energy can become quite a strain, and like filling a waterballoon with too much water he is in danger of bursting.
For some reason beyond his or Clara's ability to understand he no longer requires sleep. This has proved incrediably useful in keeping up with his double life. Clara has sujested seeking more proffesional help to explain this phenoenom, but Tommy is hesitant to allow anyone else to discover his secret.
After a battle with the mental manipulator 'Pied Piper' Volt has come to realise he is extraordinarily resistant to psionic attacks. He attributes this to his brains unique electrical impulses.

Skills: Is an extrodinary electrician, though some might say that should be a given. Tommy has an easy going personailty, which leads him to making friends and allies with ease, despite him being a solo act thus far. Being in the hero game for as long as he has helps you become quite a quick thinker. Tommy has become adapt at coming up with off the wall solutions to his problems on the fly. As Hi-Voltage he has developed a skill in acrobatics and free-running. This, coupled with his natural speed and reflexs, help him avoid any serious damage in fights. Szymon has taught him to speak some Polish.

Equipment/Resources : His supersuit. Earns a good pay from his work, but is by no means wealthy. Szymon has helped him develop a shortwave radio that allows him to listen to the police and emergency services line. He also has a small in-ear communicator that allows him to keep in contact with Szymon at all time.

Weaknesses: Being doused in water can short out Tommys powers, and being completly submerged can cause him to loose concsciousness. If he uses more energy than he can generate or drain from his enviroment then he can die.
His control over magnetism is extremely limited, if only because he finds the concentration necessary is prohibitive. He once managed to budge a bus, but he suffered migraines for days afterwards.
Has never had any formal training in how to fight. He's picked up a few tricks since he started, and knows how to throw a punch, but he's by no means an expert. A master martial artist could probably beat him in a straight up fight, even with Tommy's physical advantages.

Psychological Profile: Tommy's crusade is fueled by his guilt at what he allowed to happen to Daniel. He feels if he had been there then he could have saved his friend from a tragic end, so now he fights to protect those that he can save.
He hasn't completly bought into the Superhero mindset, and feels like a fraud wearing a costume, believing it to be a deliberate power trip for some people. However he realises the thought of someone as powerful as he is is a troublesome idea for some people, but has come to find that many people's fears are put at ease when he wears a super-suit, perhaps because the idea that heroes should be wearing colourful getups.
As Hi-Voltage he is arguably Britain's most well known and visible superhero, though he tries to act as laid back about his fame as possible, despite feeling that the pressure is liable to make him crack if he thinks about it to long.
Since Daniels death he has had trouble really letting people in, feeling that he will let them down. This is one of the main factors in his and Clara's breakup, and why he has never joined a super-group in the past.
Tommy enjoys rock music, and he got his name from the AC/DC song. It was between Hi-Voltage and Thunderstruck, which he ultimately decided would be misleading.

Biography: Tommy grew up in Scotland, in the countryside outside of the small city of Inverness, the eldest son in his family. His best friend growing up was Daniel Mackay, the two boys nearly inseparable from day one. Whether it was riding their bikes, playing video games or just plain mucking around, they were joined at the hip. The only thing they disagreed on was Daniels love of superhero comic books, which Tommy could just never get into.

As they got older they began to make plans to move to London together, Tommy to pursue a career in music and Daniel to join the Metropolitan police. Those plans were disrupted by the Awakening, when Tommy first received his powers. Not knowing what to do, Tommy turned to the only person he could trust, Daniel. His best friend was ecstatic, thrilled that his friend had become a superhuman. He began to make new plans for London, plans for Tommy to fight crime like the costumed heroes in Daniels comicbooks.

Tommy was terrified by this turn of events, and desperate for things not to spiral out of control any further told Daniel he was no longer going to London. The two got into a furious argument over what Tommy's new responsibilities were that ended with the friends parting ways, Daniel going on to London and Tommy staying at home. It was the last time they would see each other.

Two months later Daniel was killed when the villain know as Obsidian rampaged through London. When Tommy found out he was inconsolable, knowing that he could have saved his friend if he had just listened. His pain intensified when he received boxes and boxes filled with Daniels old comics, a stinging reminder of the responsibilities he had shirked. Tommy spent days reading the comics, trying to absorb the lessons that Daniel had meant to teach him. Finally, after almost a week locked in isolation, Tommy had come to a decision. He would travel to London and honour Daniel's memory by becoming the hero his friend had known he could be.

Years later Tommy has earned respect and admiration as the costumed hero 'Hi-Voltage'. The going has been tough, facing villains like The Highwayman, Dr Whitechapel, The Iron Lady, St George and Springheel-Jack, but he has always triumphed. He has also made allies, Clara Lord, his one time girlfriend, and Szymon Glowski, a truly brilliant IT technician who is also a world class hacker working under the alias Silvertongue.

His true constant though it all though, the man who challenges Tommy at every step, is that man who started it all - Obsidian. Each time the two have clashed the villain has managed to escape. Hi-Voltage has, until now, worked alone, but has recently received an invite to join 'The League'. At the same time he has received reports from his ally Strix that Obsidian has been sighted in America. Thinking to kill two birds with one stone Tommy packs his bags. If he can't catch Obsidian on his own, then he can use the League to catch his nemesis for him. Either way, Obsidian's going down.
