Current Ever had that moment were you've just lost a battle of wills with your dog and think to yourself, "maybe I should be the one sleeping on the floor"? I have. It's oddly liberating.

My Lit Lecturer used Matt Fraction's Hawkeye run to display the effect of narratology in class today. It's the first thing he's spoken about all term that I've actually read.

How good is the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil series? "Just some guys who are about to walk into a diner for the last time." That line is so manly it could make a toddler sprout a beard.

The Justice League trailer is giving me mixed emotions. On the one hand, I desperately want to get hyped. On the other, Snyder and co have burnt me too many times in the past. I'm a conflicted mess.

The raw power of Shock and Patriot rippled the air around them, laying the villain even lower. Plastic man's hydro jet looked powerful enough to cut through steel, and judging from the cries of pain coming from Shrapnel that was exactly what was happening. Bast's plan had worked well, the pack coming together beautifully to put their adversary down. Fenrir nodded slightly in appreciation of the simplicity involved, a simple diversion and this fight was nearly over. He may be the strongest, but he was almost certain she was the smartest.

Plas's stream had slowed now, his reserve of water run dry, but by that point it didn't look like Shrapnel was getting back up anytime soon. Between the moisture and Shock's lightning it almost smelt like the aftermath of a summer storm, the pleasurable smell making Fenrir's nose twitch even as he hefted the heavy tree still in his hands. He looked down at the prone figure of Shrapnel, the wolf in him scorning the metal man, but the human in him full of pity. The feral metahuman wasn't sure why the villain had chosen to go on a rampage, didn't know why he had decided to endanger so many lives. Whatever Shrapnel's reason Fenrir was certain that it didn't justify the terror he had put so many innocents through, but he still pitied the metallic giant, and thought the best thing for him now was to be handed into the authorities. The wolf in him though, it believed in crushing its enemies so they couldn't attack again. It was the wolf that made the decision to strike the prone villain, to put a definitive end to his menace.

The tree came down in a mighty overhand swing, trunk smashing into Shrapnel with so much force that the pavement underneath him made an audible crack even as the metal man groaned for mercy. Fenrir lifted his makeshift club, only to bring it crashing down once again, the sound of contact booming like thunder. This time Shrapnel barely shuddered. Again the tree went into the air, and again Fenrir struck. This time the tree itself broke in two. The wolfman left it where it was, strewn across his enemy lying pathetically in the dirt.

He could feel his blood rising, a ringing in his head that sounded like a distant howl. His senses started going into overdrive, nose being flooded with the tangy scent of spilt blood, ears picking up the individual heartbeats from his pack. His fingers itched and tingled, mouth salivating intensely with the anticipation. His vision started to go red, ready for the kill. Desperately the man inside his Fenrir's hybrid body tried to fight his primal urges. A battle raged in his head, as real and as dangerous as the one his pack had just fought, between man and beast. Slowly his vision blurred, the here and the now mixing with memories long past.

A clinically clean white room, bright lights that provide no shadow to hide in. A boy, weak and starving, huddled in a corner, stinking of fear. There was no escape, for either Fenrir or the boy. A voice echoes out, strong, strict yet devoid of warmth.

"You are a monster. We know it. That child knows it. You know it. Why fight it? Give in to your base desires, become what you are meant to be. The weak must perish so that the strong can thrive. That child is weak, and you are strong. You could become the strongest, but first you must give in!" And so the voice goes on like, until he feels he can take no more and is forced to surrender what feels like the last of his humanity. His mouth fills with blood and flesh, warm and sticky down his throat. He feels like he should gag, but nothing has ever tasted sweeter. Then nothing, except for his shame and his horror and the sick dread of what he has done, and what he would have to do again. Of what he would do to Shrapnel. Of what he would do to anyone who gets in his way. . .

Then another voice, strong and commanding. A voice that would brook no argument, but filled with patience and understanding. Hawkman. This too was a memory, but unlike the last it was a treasured memory, one that spoke of hope.

"Control dammit, you need to have control. You can be a savage and win every battle you fight, but then you'll just become like the ones you fight. No, the way forward is to control your savagery, harness it and use it. You'll never be like Superman, hell you wont even be like Batman, but when you learn what I have to teach you that wont matter, you wont be a monster, you'll be your own hero. Now CONTROL IT!"

The words faded, but the lesson didn't. Fenrir took several deep lungful's of air, forcing his breathing back under control. Slowly the world came back into focus, the library, his pack, the broken tree lying across the defeated Shrapnel, thankfully still alive. Shame filled him, and he was forced to look away, but looking away is not the same as forgetting. Perhaps the first voice was right, and Hawkman was wrong. Maybe he was a monster. . .
Name: Faen Lokison

Alias: Kid Loki

Age: 19

Powers: Faen's greatest weapon is his genius-level intellect. While having about an average knowledge of technology and science he is an incredibly cunning planner and manipulator.
Due to his mixed parentage he possesses enhanced strength, durability, stamina and resistance to cold. While nowhere near superhuman levels he is definitely physically more powerful than an average human.
He has also become a keen student of magic and the mystical arts, with an affinity for illusions. Due to his youth and the fact that he is entirely self taught he is by far from the most powerful mage in the world, but with training and guidance he has the potential to become incredibly powerful.

Weaknesses: Faen, while not quite a coward, detests being involved in a physical battle. He will do everything within his means to keep the fighting at a polite a distance as possible. Couple this aversion for a fist fight with a complete lack of close quarters combat training and you have the recipe for quite a liability in the front lines.
He is also in the habit of overestimating his abilities, especially dangerous with the potentially destructive magics he manipulates. He often underestimates the intelligence of those around him, which can quickly lead to his downfall.
Faen plays his cards close to his chest. A good trait for a poker player, a poor one for someone on a team. Faen will formulate then act on a plan without telling his team-mates, treating them like pawns in his machinations.

Personality: Cunning, Cocky, Witty

Brief bio: Born the son of Sarah Johnstone, of Midgard, and Loki, god of trickery and mischief, Faen was always going to struggle in our world. He was conceived twenty years ago when Loki was hiding out on earth after failing once again to usurp the throne of Asgard. The God grew weary of licking his wounds, yet wasn't ready to begin his schemes once more. To alleviate the boredom he decided to emulate his brother Thor, and take up with a mortal woman. He found Sarah, a waitress living in Los Angeles. She was a weak willed woman, more than willing to recieve Loki, who enjoyed wrapping her around his little finger. Soon she fell pregnant. Loki stayed with her the entire time she carried the babe, until the day of birth. As she lay in the hospital bed Loki declared he was leaving her. She begged him to stay, but nothing she said could dissuade him. The only concession he would give is that he would name his son - "Prince Faen Lokison." before dissapereing down hospital corridors.

Weak and broken hearted she may have been, it was obvious Sarah still loved Loki. She told the boy, and anyone else who happened by, that he was the son of the God, and destined to rule both Asgard and Midgard. Most didn't believe her and mocked mother and son for what thay seen as her mental instability. Those who did believe her either hated or feared the familly for his heritage to evil. The children were the cruelest, constantly mocking or attacking Faen. Despite being stronger than all but the largest of men he was never a fighter, accepting the beatings and took their taunting to heart. Despite these hardships it wasn't all unhappiness. His mother loved him, and encouraged him in all things. At a young age he realised he could affect comsic energies, what his mother called 'magic'. He had a voracious hunger for knowledge, and he would devour any tome or textbook he could get his hands on (admittedly very little, but he made up for that in entusiasm) He started supporting his mothers small wage packet by performing small magic acts or sleight of hand tricks for tourists. It was a hard life, but they got by.

The years past and Faen grew to become angry at the father he never met. He was still taunted by others, but he no longer meekly accepts their abuse, meeting it instead with a caustic wit and a skill for illusion. While Faen became a powerful young mage his mother wilted, due to her broken heart Faen theorised. She became ill, but the doctors couldn't find a cause. Six months ago she passed from this life to the next. Faen sat at her bedside the night she died. Just before the end she elicited a promise from her son, for him to do something good with his life, just like she always knew he could.

To complete the promise Faen has decided to defend the world that his father has long saught to conquer. To this end he shall travel to New York in search of other heros who can help lead and teach him.

Notes: Faen is Norwegian for devil, or in some places bastard. Loki obviously meant it as a joke, but to his son it seems a strangely fitting name as he is the bastard of a devil.

Faen has no secret identity as he has no one in his life he feels he needs to protect. His alias, Kid Loki, comes from when on his journey to New York he stopped in at a gas station. The station was being robbed by an armed robber. Thinking quickly he illusioned an image of an angry hulk standing outside the station, roaring at the thief. The thief instantly dropped his weapon, surrendered and wet himself. The security videos of the incident, and the eventual reveal that it was Faen and not the Hulk who was to thank for the save, went viral. On one message board they called Faen 'Kid Loki' due to his powerset and his resemblance to the villain, and the name has stuck, despite Faen's objections.
You've got a point. . .

Well I could grab you on my way to the training room?
Ha Shouldn't have ran away from Rane!
Cheers Drew.
"Aye, there's the occasional chaff, but for the most part the Skyfather sends us fighters, probably how you ended up here I'd wager" Rane fell in line with Darius as the two navigated the ship's corridors towards the hangar. "Too many fighters sometimes, but thats the good thing about fighters. They have a habit of dying, freeing up space for the next lot. Except for folk like us. It's the old fighters like us they have to watch for." He said it with a sardonic smile. He'd spent enough time around humans to tell that Darius was about middle aged, and you don't get to be old in their buisness without being very good at the job.

As they walked they passed One-eye, in conversation with anouther human looking newbie. These new guys are crawling out the panelling nowadays, one of them is bound to wind up dead. That was always the way of it, the new kids joined all full of hope and bravado and gusto, ready to travel the galaxy, and in their travelling tame it. Yeah, its always fun to start with. Then the first mission hits, and the newbs are surprised by the magnitude of the jobs the Maruader's take, but they don't want to seem like cowards in front of their new teammates so they throw themselves in. Couple hours later half of the newbs are dead, the other half want off, and then the whole process gets to repeat itself. True, the Marauders had a higher life expectancy than most other expeditionary forces, but that still wasn't setting the bar too damn high. Rane woulda said that this lot were lucky, what with their first mission being no more than recon, but all that meant was the danger was still lurking just round the corner and they hadn't seen it yet.

"Making friends One-eye?" the Canmorian called cheerily as he walked past "Well don't be late to the hanger, Hunt can't spend all day waiting on you. After all, who else would complain about all the regulations and safety protocols we're not following if your not there!" he didn't look around to see One-eye's face, but he assumed it would be priceless.

Entering the hanger Rane crossed over to the shuttle, Wrenchie and Ace busy in the process of butchering the craft, and dropped the winter supplies, the goods making a 'thunk' as they hit the steel floor. He turned to offer his hand to Darius, in a gesture the humans called a 'handshake'. To Rane's eyes it was damn lunacy. Why offer your hand to a man, that means he can grip it tight and deprive you of a weapon. Still, he was trying to be polite.

"Luck be with you on the mission Darius. And do me a favour? Look after Hunt. The Skyfather instructed me to stay close to him and protect him, as he will lead me to my destiny. I try my best, but he has a worrying tendency to trying and getting himself killed."

has everyone seen Ben Affleck's batsuit? it looks bad ass

I dunno, I miss the bat-nipples. . .
I thought from your CS that Thomas was incredibly proud of his heritage. I reckoned it would have been mentioned, if not be Thomas himself then other human members of the crew.
Wow. You guys have to deal with a villain with the potential power to fuel a possible nuclear apocalypse. We got to wail on a tin can.

We got lucky.
