An embolism, quite simply, is a bubble of air in your bloodstream. They can occur naturally, but they're too small to do any real damage.
However, with a simply push of your thumb against the right vein in the elbow, you can cause a much larger embolism. Depending on size and blood pressure, this bubble can take between fifteen and thirty seconds to reach the heart. When it does, the heart needs only to beat once or twice to enlarge this bubble or air- And it continues to expand, with each beat, until it pushes all of your blood down in your arteries and veins, the pressure causing them to rupture and cause internal hemorrhaging to a large degree. Not only this, but the heart tries to pump nothing but air, and tears itself to shreds. Amazing, what a single bubble will do to shut down the entire cardiovascular system.
