With the last of his strength, Hugo forced back the black shadows, driving them back into Shadow's body. The music, however, wasn't about to let go even with his job finished, and after all of his smoke dissipated, the flames upon the ground sprang up all around his body. The power rejected his claim on it and flung him away like a broken ragdoll, burning and crumpling across the grass.

Hugo lay burning on the soaked ground and in the mud for several seconds before exploding into a puff of green and pink smoke again. Someone else would need to deal with Skylar for him.

At the same moment, he reappeared upon his dorm bed, no longer on fire. Anyone who wished to speak to him would have to come to him in the morning when he finally woke back up.

The ground beneath Hugo's feet caught fire as he fought back against the corrupting black smoke. He wasn't giving in until both of them were out cold, regardless of how incredibly stupid pushing himself this hard was. Bruises formed along his arms as capillaries burst from the strain.

A sharp divide inside each cloud formed as purple fought and struck out against the black while still restraining Shadow.
