Raaawk snorted in amusement, spurting a small jet of hot flame from his nostrils, and pointed a single claw at the Shadow. He approached slowly to sniff the two. Neither looked particularly tasty, and they did seem intelligent, so he decided it was worth being friendly. After getting their scent, he nodded at them and turned to return to his smouldering bedding.
Hugo simply returned to his dormitory to heal up. He'd be out of commission for a little while, though he would be in classes. A bit of word magic would spruce up his dormitory, though, and he could easily do that while lying, injured, on the bed.
Raaawk noticed the presence of several people on the rooftop. They weren't near his work-in-progress nest, though, so he landed as softly as he could and stacked a bundle of treebranches down. A quick burst of flame through his nostrils charred the tree branches into brittle charcoal in seconds, which he stamped into soft ashy bedding for later that night. A few more trips should do the trick, but he'd need some wet leaves to hold the bedding down if the wind kicked up.
He figured it would be time to introduce himself to some of the locals.
Raaawk puffed out his feathers in a display of greeting as he slowly crawled on all fours towards Shadow and Cindy, where he let out a low, rumbling growl - almost like a purr.
"Are... You two related, by any chance?", Hugo inquired. The Headmistress and Ember looked surprisingly similar in his eyes.
Raaawk, having finished his meal of freshly roasted goat, glanced down at the messenger bag slung across his belly. It was absolutely crammed full, with pockets bulging outwards. His family had packed a bit too much - no doubt there were at least twelve different kinds of feather brushes in there. He gave the rough avian equivalent of a sigh, spurting flames through his nostrils, and flipped it open to find the piece of paperwork he was supposed to deliver on arrival.
Some rummaging later and he found it. It was very slightly charred and a bit torn from claw work, but it was what he was looking for. The handwriting was rough, as though someone extremely large had written it under a magnifying glass, but it was at least somewhat legible.
To Headmistress Neaera, of Balbasorus Academy,
Our family has expanded once again, and as per our arrangements with your predecessor, we have sent our child to the Academy in the interest of teaching him the ways of the world. It is finally time for him to spread his wings and discover himself, as it had been when I was a drake. We apologize for suddenly dumping [illegible scribbling] on your academy with little to no warning, but we do not have access to phone or internet service in our colony in the Andes and could not send a message ahead of us. We would be greatly honored if your Academy would take in our youngest.
Regards, [illegible scribbling - draconic perhaps, looks like it could possibly be a name and a family name]
Raaawk thumped over to the administrative building and stuffed the singed parchment into the letterbox with an extended claw. He would have to get his bearings after he unpacked and set up his 'room'. With the letter delivered, he turned and took to the skies again. The dormitory building was neatly marked out with spaces on the rooftop for avian monsters, and he picked an empty spot next to a small Roc nest. Rocs weren't particularly sociable or intelligent, so he wouldn't bother with making conversation.
I'll assume that there's been a timeskip to the morning, then.
Good morning, everyone!
Speaking of dorms and lodgings, though, I assume it's alright if I set Raaawk up on the dorm building rooftop? He's not exactly small enough to comfortably fit in a normal human sized bed. :P
"I haven't actually harmed anyone, but I did come very close once. I had just come home from school, and my father and I had an argument over the phone. Had he been there, he would have gone the way my house did. Yesterday, I told Ember I set my house on fire. That's not entirely true -- it exploded. Nothing but burnt-out timbers there now."
Hugo surprised himself at his own admission. That wasn't the sort of thing he told people about.
