"She's fine, we just talked for a bit, that's all." he said.
"Lucas." he said, adjusting the rifle on his back.
(They aren't in a hall, they are outside)
Lucas began to shake with anger at the boldness of Meruem, asking her out to lunch so casually, even though they just met. However, he took a deep breath and reminded himself, it's not very hero-like to want to blast his face off, no matter how much Lucas thought he deserved it. Plus, he couldn't play it off as an accident either.
"I just don't like that guy." he said.
"No, because an air cannon isn't really a weapon, plus I would need to combine both my arms, and that would be hard to do with these sleeves. Also, I wouldn't be able to load the ball in, as both my arms would have made it up." he explained to her, before she noticed Meruem and went off. He was getting pretty irritated with this guy, and how he kept drawing Haley's attention, and pissing her off.
The next morning, after breakfast, all the first years were lead to the locker rooms to gather their things in preparation for their initiations.
Lucas opened his locker and grabbed his katana. He drew it and placed the hilt into the sheath, transforming it into a sniper rifle, which he strung on his back, feeling it would be easier to carry around, and that he would need the gun more in the beginning than the sword. He then grabbed his ammo belt, filling it with fire, ice, and lightning clips. He double checked to make sure he had everything.

"Yeah, I know it's not impressive." he said, to Haley. "But not much weapons can do with a ball without destroying it."
"It's alright, sir." Lucas said. "I agree, they were both out of line." He took his place and threw the ball, with no way to use his quirk without destroying the ball, he had to throw it normally.
