Dillan Tasley

Name: Dillan Tasley

Race: Human

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Appearance: Dillan is a bit on the short side, reaching a height of only 5'5". He looks even smaller than that due to his very slight build. One could easily label him as appearing to be acrobatic, which would be accurate to his skills. He has green eyes and dark brown hair which is long enough to reach the center of his back if he doesn't keep it tied back in a high ponytail (which he does). His general appearance often gets him mistaken for a girl, which is something he has used to his advantage on occasion. His skin is lightly tanned, and he has a handful of small scars here and there. The most obvious scar is on the palm on his left hand, which looks like it was make by a knife cut.

Clothing/Armor: Dillan does not wear any kind of obvious armor on his body under normal circumstances, but he does have metal gauntlets that he slips on when the going gets tough. Just to protect his hands and forearms. His knee-high brown boots are also reinforced in the front with metal plates that are stitched on such that they are covered with some extra leather. They are hard to notice except by close inspection, but are a nasty shock to someone getting kicked by him.

In terms of everyday wear, Dillan tends to keep things simple. Just a tunic, pants, and the boots. He likes wearing bright colors, particularly if they clash. It's not uncommon for him to walk around--like a boss--in a bright blue tunic and orange pants while pretending that nothing at all is the matter with his fashion sense. (Don't be fooled, though. He knows exactly what he's doing with this. It's completely intentional.

Weapons: Dillan's gauntlets aren't just for defense. They are his primary weapon, as well. Sure they pack quite a punch, but they also are special contraptions that hide dagger blades inside them. When he triggers them, the spring-loaded blades pop out. (Think like Wolverine claws, but just a single blade. Better yet, the blade Edward Elric makes out of his automail in Fullmetal Alchemist. That's a better way of describing it.) The blade is stored in the part of the gauntlet that protest his forearm. When he triggers it, he needs to have his wrist straight or flexed downward in such a manner that he won't stab his own hand. Holding the trigger button down longer than just the initial push will eject the blade for maintenance purposes. (It doesn't have enough spring to it to be fired at anyone. Yet. That's the next model he's working on.) He also decides to takes the blades out to be held properly every so often, but he prefers to keep them attached to the gauntlets. When not wearing the gauntlets, he keeps them in a satchel. There's a separate pouch for them that isn't cluttered by tools and other things.

Skills:

Mechanics (Expert) - As detailed in his backstory, Dillan has been taught from a very young age how to make various complex tools and contraptions. He has quite a bit of natural flair for this.

Acrobatics (Major) - Dillan is naturally nimble, and he makes up for a lack of strength with his sharp reflexes and agility. His combat training always had more of a focus on acrobatics than on powerful strikes.

Block (Major) - Dillan is quite good at blocking attacking using his gauntlets, daggers, and even the metal plates in his boots.

Unarmed (Major) - Dillan is most accustomed to punching and kicking for attacking. Those punches may or may not be made more devastating by the presence of a six-inch blade sticking out of the end of his gauntlets.

Short Blade (Minor) - Dillan doesn't use the daggers outside the gauntlets often, but he does know how to effectively use them when they are ejected.

Athletics (Minor) - Dillan is quick on his feet and has decent stamina.

Smithing/Armorer (Minor) - Though he's not nearly as skilled with making weapons and armor as he is with making his contraptions, he does know his way around a forge. Someone needs to repair his daggers when they get dull!

Inventory: (contained in a leather satchel)

- 10 Deku Nuts
- 2 gauntlets with hidden daggers
- 3 bottles (2 red potions and 1 empty bottle)
- Clawshot (see Background)
- Claw-like attachments for his boots and gauntlets (aid in climbing and can also be used offensively, but not razor-sharp like a proper blade)

Backstory: Dillan is the youngest son of a well-known maker of various gadgets like bombchus, though the hookshot is also the handiwork of his father. Unfortunately, it isn't one that most people know about. It was stolen by pirates, and his father nearly died in the raid. That was a little over a decade before Dillan was born, but he grew up hearing stories of his father's masterpiece.

As a result of his near-death experience, his father insisted that his family learn to properly defend themselves. He had his wife learn self-defense, and once they had children, they were enrolled in Clock Town's dojo at an early age. As such, Dillan grew up fighting. It was never his passion, though. He'd never enjoyed it (except when he could make his sparring partners extremely frustrated with his lack of seriousness). What he truly loved was working with his father on new contraptions, even making himself a hookshot of his own. He referred to it as a clawshot, though, and indeed there is a claw at the end of it. It doesn't work as well as his father's hookshot apparently did, but it can grab onto tree branches and wooden beams easily enough.

His family lives in Clock Town, but Dillan doesn't live with them anymore. He's always been more independent than that. For the past year, he's been living in the Mountain Village and working at the forge there. For the Carnival this year, he's been sent to Clock Town to advertise and sell the forge's wares. While in town, though, he intends to visit family and friends and have a damn good time.

His family includes his father, two older brothers, and his mother. His father is considered a bit of a madman at the moment, sequestered in the family home and working day and night on new contraptions. He's hardly ever seen, but Dillan's mother is often seen delivering his completed inventions to the curiosity shop and the bomb shop. His oldest brother has a bit of talent with mechanics as well, and he works as a maintenance man for the game shops around Clock Town. Someone has to keep the various moving parts working so the games can be played. The middle brother took far more of an interest in combat than the other two, and he is one of the guards around Clock Town. He's usually stationed in South Clock Town, and the close proximity to the dangerous slums makes the rest of the family nervous.

Dillan has a bit of a reputation himself around Clock Town, and it isn't a good one. When he was growing up, he was a bit of a troublemaker. He never stole anything, but his apparent ignorance about a great deal of things tended to rub people the wrong way. He always asked a lot of obvious questions, leading people down a frustrating road of obvious answers that he pretended to not understand. This was a bit of a game he played, giving people entirely the wrong impression about him before shattering their perception of him. He loved seeing their reactions. He's almost grown out of pulling pranks like that, but he still pretends to be a ditz and a klutz. From what he's seen, people don't use their full strength against someone they think is pathetic. It's their mistake to make, and he lets them keep making it until he's had enough fun toying with them. He may act like a clown most of the time, but he does know when to be serious (like when he's crafting something). He's highly intelligent, and every buffoon-like action is mapped, measured, and calculated beforehand for effect.

Chanda, would someone who just has metal plates sewn into their boots and metal gauntlets for armor need the Heavy Armor skill? Or is that minimal enough to not really count? Or would you just let that fall under Block?

Not to raise your expectations to ridiculous levels, but Chanda and FM (Baklava) are badasses when it comes to making fun Zelda roleplays. :)
