@bluetommy2 Okay, nice. I'll read the letter and try to incorporate it into the characters or, at least, try not to do anything that actively disagrees with what's been said in it. Sorry for all the questions but I might have a few more. Should I have an explanation for why the house hasn't been involved in any of the shenanigans in Westeros so far? If so, I may have the old head of the house finally succumb to an illness and his heir take control and start putting things back into shape.
@bluetommy2 Harrenhal is always bad news, it's almost like the place is cursed. So should I play the current Tully house that's in the CS in the Characters tab or make a new one? Or just edit the current one to avoid continuity errors?
@kingkonrad Okay, if it helps. But the Tullys... they're such a bunch of doormats.
"What's that? You've got an army? Well, make yourself at home and feel free to rip apart the Riverlands while you're here!" A Tully Lord, at some point, probably.
But yeah, if it helps advance the story, I'll play the Tullys. I'll look into the CS.
@bluetommy2 Well that seems pretty clear. So peace is sort of on the horizon? If there's a male claimant on the throne and the most likely contender for the throne, claim wise, has been captured, I mean. If I'm going to play the Tullys, can I ask what has been happening near the Riverlands?
As a big fan of aSoIaF and to a lesser extent the show, I'd really like to join this game but I'd like to ask a couple of things. First, is there any way to get up to speed on what has happened in this roleplay other than reading the 71 IC posts? A summary or something? If not, I'll get reading but being spoonfed would be easier. Secondly, does a new player have to take on one of the main houses? I see that Tully, Greyjoy and possibly Targaryen are open but jumping in as a one of them is pretty daunting. Can a new player take a smaller house or maybe a single person of some importance, like a Kingsguard or member of the Small Council?
The wind whistled through the trees, rolling the dead leaves across the forest floor and playing with the hair of a man sitting at the forest’s edge. The wood was small and made up of stunted oaks and sycamores. Here and there, a bird dared to show its face to check whether Winter was really gone or an early rising fox stuck its head out of its den. On the horizon, the sun set the sky on fire as it set, shining off the roofs of a turkey farm. The man, sitting on a fallen tree with a sheathed sword across his lap, was glaring at the turkey farm with unflinching attention. Now and then, the few workers still present would glance in his direction uneasily. A man with a sword is always intimidating, even more so when he’s staring at your workplace with bloody murder in his eyes.
The man’s name is Taranis and, technically, he isn’t a man. The word god doesn’t necessarily come to mind when observing a bear-like, shirtless man with a mane of twig infested hair and an expression of contained fury. But for the past several millennia, Taranis has been on of Mother Earth’s champions, sadly absent from this earth since 500BCE. Having only recently returned to his home realm, Taranis has found things much changed. The people were taller, healthier and live longer but the woods are smaller, sicker and far rarer. Still, Taranis understood the need to expand and build up cities and towns, especially now there are so many people. For the most part, he was happy with how the earth had fared during his pantheon’s absence. Until he asked one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. handlers how man had access to such much meat, so many eggs and so much milk. Before long, he was introduced to the concept of domesticated animals, battery farming and the wonders of the dairy farm.
For near a month now, Taranis has been moodily stalking the land, glowering at poultry farmers, shooting daggers at dairy owners and grumpily contemplating petting zoos. Mostly, he wants to tear the buildings down, free the animals and shatter the whole system. But even in his moments of greatest rage, Taranis is a not a naturally impulsive man. A second’s thought brings up a dozen problems; the animals wouldn’t know what to do with freedom, people would go hungry and famine would crush the poorest of the nation. So he sits and glares and thinks, listening for any messages from Mother Earth. She has been strangely quiet for some time now.
And then… he feels it. A tremor, through every living being. There is no earthquake, no disaster, just a momentary feeling of unease. Squirrels stop munching on nuts for a moment, dogs let balls drop from their mouths. And Taranis, alone in a country forest feels, something change in the wind. Something new, or perhaps something very old, stands upon the earth. And it is looking for Taranis.
With a muttered curse, he stands and pats the nearest tree with his hand. “There is a curse; may you live in interesting times. Seems things are about to get interesting, wouldn’t you say?” There is no audible reply but Taranis smiles and shakes his head. In a couple of moments, the wind builds up, going from a gentle breeze to a roaring gale. Seconds later, he is a dot high up in the air, soaring southwards on an angry new wind.
Appearance: Around the average height for a man of eighteen, Sable stands with a straight back and a curled lip. The former was drilled into him by military instruction from the age of seven, the latter a gift of generations of good breeding. His smirk is somewhat ruined by a scar on his upper lip, a gift from his oldest brother. The famous blonde Sedgwick hair is evident on his head but clipped down with military precision.
Skills: Like most members of prestigious houses, Sable was trained from an early age to be able to use those weapons suitable for nobles; swords, shields, lances and cutting remarks. He can hold his own against most professional soldiers and is lucky enough to own his own set of armour and sword.
History: House Sedgewick is an old and established house that has been loyal to the crown for most of Auron’s history. The sons and daughters of House Sedgewick have done many great deeds, from leading armies to building trade routes, though the last few years have taken some of have taken a heavy toll on the coffers of the house. The current head of the house, Damien Sedgewick, has turned his attention back to this illustrious history and has done his best to hammer the lessons of the past into his children. His four sons have been trained for battle and command from the tender age of seven, his two daughters have been educated in the managing of money and prepared to restore the family fortunes.
As the oldest son, Adam Sedgewick had the most care and respect lavished upon him. Through his childhood he was constantly reminded that he was the most important member of the house Sedgewick, the one upon whom the dynasties future rests upon. In turn, he made sure to remind his siblings of this whenever he could. His size and superior training made him the equal and indeed better of his brothers in the sparring ring. When Sable was eleven, Adam gave him a scar on his lip to, as he put it, “remind you of your place whenever you smile”. The second son of the house, Jeremiah Sedgewick, will be trusted with the command of the house’s military forces. In many ways, he is the polar opposite of Adam, a kind and generous soul. The third child, Victoria, proved herself to be a mathematical prodigy and the clear master of house Sedgewick’s finances. Roystone Sedgewick was neither the first born nor as charming as Jeremiah and found it hard to find his niche in the family and so, at fifteen, he left to join a monastery. Belinda Sedgewick is the only child of the house to show much magical talent, making her especially precious to her parents.
As the sixth child and youngest son of the house, Sable could never hope to lead the house. As a fourth son, Sable could not even hope to marry into a respectable house. As a fourth son, he had only two options; fade into obscurity as an old spinster or join a monastery. Sedgewick decided to choose the third, travelling to Roseview and attending the choosing ceremony.
Personality: Raised in a noble household, Sable has a deep-seated belief that he is better than the common folk, through long generations of breeding and superior education. Conversely, he also has a terrible need for approval after a childhood starved of attention or affection. As such, he’s prickly and aggressive when first encountered but will readily develop a loyal friendship with anyone prepared to work through the opening difficulties.
Okay, here he is. Something of a dickbag but very good at fighting, so long as he has his sword, armour and shield. On the downside, no tracking or hunting abilities and will complain about living conditions for a while.
