Bio

I am a Roleplayer with an interest in science fiction and fantasy, with a preference for Casual. I have been roleplaying for several years, and have even taken a stab at running a few RPs.

Outside the Guild, I am an Australian science student, gamer, musician and roleplayer (that's right, IRL too).

I think it's fine as it is, since you'd have to wait for an enemy attack before triggering it.

Would this skill work for any enemy attack though, or only attacks which directly target Pierce? If an enemy was using an area attack or a field attack it might not work in the same way.

I feel that, if something did global/field damage it wouldn't trigger the buff, but if someone, say, used a more local AoE at him/where he was (eg, went to throw a grenade in his direction) then it might trigger it. Of course, local AoE doesn't really mean too much in this setting, since distance is not kept track of.

@BBeast Trait seems fine. Regarding Quick Draw, you can only use it once per turn. Rephrase the skill to show the change.

Will do.

It was mentioned that some traits or abilities may cost more than one skill point. I may as well get that out of the way by presenting my suggested traits for Pierce.

  • Extended Clip - +5 to maximum energy
  • Keen Aim - Pierce's attacks ignore any dodging or evasion abilities.
  • Final Stand - If Pierce receives the KO debuff, on the start of his next turn he loses that debuff, all of his Energy and heals one Health. This trait may only trigger once per battle.
  • Dual Wielding - When Pierce uses the normal Attack action, he may attack twice rather than just once through that attack action. This trait does not apply to attacks done through Skills. ((This one will probably cost a fair few SkP's))

I was referring to the fact that they are, you know, from hell.

This would give them fire resistance, maybe, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that their corporeal forms are by default immune to fire and heat.
<Snipped quote by BBeast>

Don't our resident demons basically live in molten lava?

From what I gather from the character sheets, only Torrens and Shukra have physical forms with fire immunity.
<Snipped quote by BBeast>

Tinkerhel, is this where you got those burns?

If Torrens laid his hands on Tinkerhel, she'd be a pile of charred, molten flesh. If Torrens ever offers you a hug, don't take it unless you have a level of heat resistance which allows you to swim in molten lava for fun.

All the Spirit Kings have a physical link between their realm and ours. Spitfire's is in a Volcano, the rocks his skin and the Lava his blood. Being the Fire King's Blood, it can burn anything that comes into contact with it, even other fire, Beings of fire that would otherwise absorb the heat and flame, and creatures immune to conventional fire.

In regard to power levels, Torrens' raw power will go up and down like a yo-yo. One minute he could have been super-charged by a long soak in a volcano and a shot of Empyrean, ready to incinerate all who step in his path. The next he could have been dumped in a river and thus wanting to do little more than go find a campfire or something to give him the strength to walk home. Or, barring critical injury, he could have simply overspent himself. The main course of upgrades, then, will have to be new, exotic and magical types of flame to add to his metaphorical bag of tricks.
OK, took me long enough but I've finally made it to the end of this thread.
Belatedly, I reply to this.
"Whoever dares claim to be the hottest is in for a rude awakening. None are hotter than I! - Shukra, once again displaying his ignorance of certain phrases.

*Torrens, air wavering around him, glowing a dull red and standing in a puddle of molten rock, stretches out his arms and points to himself* "Ahem, did you forget about me?"

The incredible display of pyrotechnics and sheer power which the Head Summoner used to annihilate bush had Pierce dumbstruck for a few moments. But once the party had regained their footing and the smoke had cleared his cynical self returned. The bush had been almost dead when the Head Summoner had finished it off, so the stated reason of them being 'too slow' must be a lie, Pierce reasoned. That move could have served two real purposes. One was that it was the punchline of the Head Summoner's little joke. Second was that it was a display of force, offhand in delivery though it was, intended to intimidate the candidates and make clear his own position of absolute power.

Regardless of the way in which the fight had ended, Pierce felt a strange sensation. He felt tougher, his mind felt sharper, and as he reloaded his pistol he could have sworn that he had walked in here with lower caliber bullets than he had now. The others in the party seemed to feel it too. This must be the work of the Battle Corp Combatant Creator process, incrementally improving the candidates until they reached the pinnacle of might.

And then the moment was over. Soon the next enemy would arrive, but they were ready now. "I hate to admit it, but I agree with the beserker," Pierce said aloud towards the box in the corner of the room, "You've had your little joke, and while we could fight inanimate objects all day I don't think that is what we are here for."

Action: Rest and level up. Allocated 3 points to Attack, 1 point to Health and learned Showdown.
My proposed level two skill (essentially, the alternative version of Quick Draw):

Showdown - Pierce gains the Showdown buff. Pierce enters a state of heightened alertness. When Pierce is next targeted by an attack, Pierce shoots first, dealing damage to the attacker using Pierce's Attack stat. Provided the attacker is still conscious, the attacker's attack then proceeds as normal. This buff expires after its effect takes place. This buff does not stack with itself. Energy Cost: 5

Should there be some sort of turn limit on its duration as well (if so, how long?)? Or is it fine?

Also, with Quick Draw, there is an ambiguity in its wording, one which I'd like to sort out. Would I, or would I not, be allowed to trigger Quick Draw multiple times on the same turn? Each use would, of course, use energy, but maybe using it multiple times on the same turn may be considered too powerful. I'd like to get a verdict on this before I try to use it as such.
Name: Torrens Igneus

Physical Form: Around 176cm (5'9") tall, his body shape is very human, save for the fact that his 'skin' is coloured a solid shade of red, and he also has two small horns on his head and a short, skinny tail. For a demon, he's pretty scrawny, and even by human standards he's not very muscular. He doesn't wear clothing, although as he lacks an anatomy he has nothing that needs covering up. He is also incandescent. At low levels of power the glow is only noticeable in darkness, although at higher levels of power it will become more obvious. The shade of his skin also becomes brighter as he grows more powerful.

Abilities: Torrens Igneus is the embodiment of heat and flame. He has no flesh, not even demon flesh. Instead his body is simply a solid shell for storing heat. Torrens absorbs heat and fire to gain in power, and he must consume regularly since the heat continuously leeches out of his body. He has the ability to actively draw on his internal reserves of heat and fire to create and manipulate fire, often in very creative and versatile ways. His body is always hot, with a temperature in proportion to his power, so his very touch often causes things to burst into flame and, given enough time or effort, can melt through metal and stone (power depending). In addition to this, his physical form is indestructible. Whenever he would normally take damage, he instead loses a portion of his energy to the surroundings. Similarly, coldness or, worse yet, water will conduct energy out of him faster than normal. If he is ever without any energy, his form hardens into a stone statue, idle until revived. It is also worth noting that Torrens' abilities aren't limited to normal fire. He can absorb and use more exotic forms of fire too, from sickening soulflame to the all-consuming Empryean, although he must first collect a sample of such flames since he is unable to inter-convert between them.

Personality: Torrens is highly cunning and quick-thinking, which allows him to put his powers to good use on the battlefield. He enjoys basking in fiery destruction (generally of his foes). He is also quite cavalier most of the time, and will happily taunt his foes. He would flirt more often too, if his very touch didn't immolate most people. Despite this, he is quite loyal to his boss and will seek to satisfactorily complete jobs assigned, for he knows the benefits of keeping a good reputation.

Wants/Needs: Mostly, Torrens just wants to watch the world burn- up close of course. He enjoys the thrill of destruction, and to feast on the flames. He'll also go to quite some lengths to get his hands on exotic forms of fire. In his down-time he likes to find a nice hot furnace or lava pit to rest in.

Relationships: He may be familiar with other demons, although it has been quite a long time. He makes every effort to be friendly to anyone with pyromancy abilities too.

Backstory: Torrens has long since left hell for the overworld, for he was bored with hell and sought excitement on the surface. He has served a couple of other Dungeon Keepers in previous ages, and now he finds himself here in this new world. He was naturally drawn to this new Keeper, who he intends to serve as they march out to burn down the land.
