Hazel smirked as the wooden sword made contact. She could tell he didn't expect the strength of the blow. However, as she began to follow through on her next attack, Hayato's voice boomed. "Blade Trail!" *Damn! Insolent bastard!* She moved to block the blow, but she didn't move fast enough to stop the Katana. She wheeled around quick enough to disrupt the blade, but didn't stop the attack, and it glanced her side. She started to tumble to the ground, but stopped herself, balancing on one hand. Her side throbbed. She already had her next attack in her head, and decided on a number of ways to follow up. She pushed off the ground and sprung straight up, "Bleed!" She shouted. A red shimmer coated her blade as she raised it over her and brought it crashing down towards Hayato's neck. Typically using a skill like Hemorrhage was frowned upon in live weapons practice, since, after all, having a student bleed out didn't help anyone, but Hazel knew a wooden sword wouldn't apply the bleed effect of Hemorrhage, her attack would just hit harder.
Quick clarification: When you Hayato's ability to block Hazel's first blow you counted his Evasion, Speed, and Defense. When referring to his next attack you counted Hazel's Defense and Evasion. When adding up stats to block do you count speed or not? :P Edit: I'm just going to go with yes since that's what you did
> Uh... @Zeroth Hazel actually has combined stats of 65 compared to Hayato's 44. I was about to say. Not trying to make a big fuss about it, but that's not really 'about one point' :P
Hazel smiled as he accepted her challenge. This time it wasn't a cocky smirk, but a massive grin. When it came to AcadeMMO her favorite part was fighting. She loved all of it, from the rush of victory, to the experience earned from a loss. But she knew she wouldn't lose to this kid. She nodded at his introduction, "I'm Hazel Hosner, although I don't have a fancy name for the way I fight." This time she showed a different smile, somewhere in-between her cocky smirk and her grin. Instead what was found could be seen as some semblance of an actual smile. Behind the unrelenting facade of arrogance there was what could be likened to a sweet girl. The pair entered the gym and Hayato was quick to set up the sparring match. She also used the touch screen, following a process exactly the same as his. "You know, despite whatever sense you might have gotten from my tone I do actually think the Katana is quite a fascinating weapon. I tried one out once. I can understand why some people admire them so much." She scanned the list of weapons available. She was proficient with a number of different swords and didn't limit herself to one type. Unfortunately she didn't count the Katana among the list of weapons she was a master with. After a few moments of internal deliberation Hazel decided to not pull out one of her more exotic weapons, opting instead for simplicity. She locked in her selection, strode to the post opposite of Hayato and rested her hand upon it. As the capsule opened she retrieved a simple wooden longsword. She shook her head. Despite the weighted core they featured these weapons could never really match up to real steel. "Alright Hayato, prepare yourself." She assumed her fighting stance, and donned her classic cocky smirk again. She took initiative and charged. She moved quickly, and neared meeting Hayato within seconds. She rose her sword with both hands and opened with a simple swipe, moving her body and her weapon downwards and to the left diagonally, already posing for her next attack. She didn't expect much from Hayato but she did expect him to dodge or block this one.
As the Dean droned on Hazel sat in her chair with a self-satisfied smirk. She always had an odd way of managing to look incredibly cocky no matter what the situation was, and this was one of the times she exercised that power. As far as she was concerned she had every right to be cocky. As the Dean's orientation ended Hazel rose, and found her way to a group of people she knew. Everyone greeted each other, and at first Hazel was excited to see her friends, but as conversation turned to what they had done over break she felt her stomach twist. They talked about their families, and vacations, and all the other things Hazel missed out on. She quietly excused herself, "Hey, I'll catch up later, I'm going to go get my stuff in my dorm." She waved goodbye at the group, and briskly took off. A molten sea of self-doubt began to churn within her. *I wonder... I wonder what they think of me. What am I to them? Are these people my friends? Do I really have friends?* Hazel stormed down the hallway, and began to realize she wasn't really going anywhere. Of course her dorm was already taken care of, that was just an excuse. She didn't really have anything she needed to move in. She pushed away the negative thoughts, *Of course I have friends. I'm the best.* Her face twisted back into the smirk she was wearing earlier. She suddenly felt a crushing eagerness for this year. In AcadeMMO she excelled. She was at the top of her classes, both martial and academic. Everything worked here. And then she knew what she would do. *This year I will take an S ranked assignment. It's what I deserve.* And at that moment Hazel promised to herself she would become the strongest in the school. She thought she wanted to prove to everyone that she was worth something, but the only person she was trying to prove anything to was herself. Hazel didn't break her stride. She continued to storm down the hallway. She came to a stop as she overheard a pair of Martial boys talking. From what she gathered one was a Knight like her. *I'll start with him. I'm sure I'm better then him.* She wheeled around to face the pair, and butted into the conversation in perfect form. "So, you're trying to get stronger? I've always wanted to fight one of you guys that wave around your fancy Japanese swords. If you want to spar, fight me." She spoke, maintaining her cocky smirk the entire time. She looked the boy over. *Hmph, no way he's higher than D. I bet I can kick his ass.*
Name: Hazel Hosner Age: 16 Gender: Female Themesong: The Valedictory Elegy / Hedgehog's Dilemma / Cold Rain Class: Bladeknight Appearance: Hazel is a youthful girl with soft white skin. She has long straight red hair that reaches down to the small of her back. She has a small frame, and stands at a rather average height of 5'3. Hazel has a heart-shaped face adorned with deep green eyes. Hazel is graceful, and is deceptively strong despite her petite appearance. She is sure of step and has an almost commanding gait, oft earning the attention of others in the room, appearing as if she is the definition of 'confidence', whether or not this is true. History: Hazel never really knew her parents, and has never experienced a conventional domestic lifestyle. At a very young age Hazel found herself abandoned into the foster care system, her birth parents unable and unwilling to support the child they refused to get rid of. Hazel bounced around foster homes, but never had good experiences in any of them. She lacked any sort of parental guidance, never able to call any of her foster parents 'mom' or 'dad'. As expected from one raised in such a difficult environment Hazel became a 'problem child'. The apathy of her foster parents turned to resentment, and Hazel's difficult home life turned worse as they began to hate her. Hazel, despite being a seemingly normal girl, had trouble making friends at her school, and she became aggressively anti-social during this time. People began to shut her out, and she found herself without any sense of self-worth, believing herself to be useless. As time progressed this shot sense of self-worth morphed into a very aggressive ego, forcibly asserting herself as 'better' then those around her to compensate. AS she made the transition from Middle to High School it was revealed to her that her current foster parents decided to get rid of her, enrolling her in AcadeMMO. As she made the transition into AcadeMMO she thrived. She took quickly to her lessons, and naturally picked up the art of swordplay. Some would call her a prodigy, and this only served to feed into her growing ego. Other people began to take an interest in her, and suddenly she found herself near the top of the social food chain of AcadeMMO, her skills attracting friends. As people flocked around her she put on the mask of someone she wasn't, and slowly began to mimic the way her friends acted, becoming a regular kid. A regular kid with a massive ego masking a crushingly low sense of self esteem, but a regular kid nonetheless. Despite all the people around her Hazel still feels alone. Statistics: When it comes to fighting, Hazel holds a simple philosophy: The best defense is a strong offense - Level - 2 - HP - 70 (7) - MP - 30 (3) - Attack - 35 - Magic - 10 - Speed - 22 - Accuracy - 15 - Defense - 5 - Evasion - 5 - Resistance - 5 Spells/Skills: True Strike: Finishing Move [2]- This move is Hazel's self-perfected finisher. The move is designed to finish a weakened enemy, and is only usable if the enemy *is* weakened. She targets the weakened enemy, and her blade pulses with magic energy. The attack will finish off simple creatures and other weak enemies, and will merely launch an blow with an additional 15 attack at stronger enemies. At higher levels the move can kill stronger creatures. Consumes 20 MP. Command: "Let's end this!" Hemorrage [1]- Hazel allows the magic inside her to guide her blade, and finds an artery. The skills adds an extra 5 Attack to her blow, and causes the enemy to begin bleeding. If the enemy does not have blood the skill does not work, for obvious reasons. Consumes 10 MP. Command: "Bleed!"
Interested.

Mantam soon found that the population of The Cave slowly began to dwindle, as people began to run out to make the preparations necessary for their new position trapped in Paradise, whether that be shopping or going to level. Soon enough she found only herself and Marinette remained. She found herself with little to do. Her head was still spinning. She knew she should do something, seeing as her life now hinged on her success in Paradise, but she was lost. She felt wholly useless. She wished she was playing another character when this had happened. Mirage Shifter was fun, but it possesses some very clear shortcomings. When a Mirage Shifter has burned through all their mana, they are in a very tough position. Due to the nature of the class they are typically at the front of the group, but once all of their mana is gone they are then left at the front of the group in a very squishy formed. A dangerous position in a game with a potential for death. She knew that she would do better on one of her alts, even a frontline fighter without limitations like the Mirage Shifter's. But it was impossible to switch. Instead, she moved to the Cave's couch and plopped down onto it. She felt her heart twisting wit guilt at her own selfishness, choosing to rest while everyone was working. But she was having difficulty coping, and didn't want to go out on her own. Paradise was a dangerous place, and she was terrified of dying.

Just a by the way, I'm going to exclude mention of Cryptiic/Grey from the post I am making since he hasn't posted in around a month and didn't chime in on the role call.

Hazel finally finished on the phone. It was a difficult conversation, to say the least. She felt completely drained, both by the news of their inability to log out and the verbal brow beating her parents gave her. If she had the choice she wouldn't have called them, but she didn't have much choice if she wanted to stay alive. She returned to the group wit a huff, "It looks like we're all in this together now. If we want to survive this we'll have to work together," Mantam began, "And no matter what we make sure no one dies." She didn't know what the future would hold, but the Book of Life would certainly contain their first hints. She summoned it from her inbox and began to scan it intently.

The book made no damn sense. So much for that idea. "I'm sure it must be some kind of code... or something... he said it was supposed to be a hint, it must have some kind of meaning." That was here meek offering to the group, along with the money she drained from her bank account. It was quite a bit for characters their level, money chiefly transferred from her alt when she first made 'Mantam'. It, of course, wouldn't but them everything they needed but she hoped it would help. She tossed the money, neatly contained in a small bag, at Prince.
