And I live. Is everybody else still here?
Ryan couldn’t even react. He simply stood, frozen, as the creature’s attack headed towards him. For a brief moment he thought that this was it, until a heavy force impacted his side. The impact knocked him off his feet and he toppled over, landing hard on his side. The electrified thread sailed harmlessly above him as he lay on the ground, Moonmon sitting on top of him. She’d tackled him to the ground to get him out of the way of the attack.

“Snap out of it!” she exclaimed. “We need to move!”

Ryan nodded and hastily picked himself up off the ground. “Can you guys fight these things?”

“No,” was Moonmon’s blunt reply.

Wonderful. “So then let’s get the hell out of here.” He picked up Moonmon and took off running through the trees. “Come on!” he shouted to James.

“Poison Ivy!”

Ryan stopped and jumped back as several large vine struck a tree that he had been about to run by. They left huge gashes in the bark. He quickly made a 90-degree turn and bolted away from the creature that had attacked him.

“What are these things?” Ryan asked Moonmon as they ran.

“Palmon and Kunemon,” she answered. “They’re Rookie-level Digimon.”

“So stronger than you guys?”

“Yes,” she replied. “But they aren’t normally this hostile. I don’t know what’s gotten into them.”

“Are we in their territory or something?”

Moonmon shook her head. “This many Palmon and Kunemon wouldn’t share the same territory, and if that were what this was, we probably would’ve run into them sooner. Besides, this attack isn’t spur of the moment. It’s too organized; too coordinated.”

We don’t have time to worry about this, Ryan thought. Just then, he spotted another Kunemon. He managed to duck behind a tree just as an Electro Thread passed by him. He turned and started running away from the Kunemon, making sure to keep as many trees as possible between them.

He didn’t even know if James had followed him. He hadn’t so much as glanced behind him to check, he was too focused on where he was running. Just then, he dove around a tree … and came out into a clearing.

Oh crap, he thought. He looked back to the tree line and saw that the Kunemon and Palmon had already caught up and were already blocking him from turning back. Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap. He was stuck in this clearing. Which meant that there was nothing to hide behind.
Sorry that I've been AWOL. Things have been a bit crazy for me lately. Is this still alive?
Ryan rolled his eyes. “Oh. Well. We teleported. That clears things right up. Thanks, Copernicus.”

“Don’t be rude!” Moonmon exclaimed.

“Shove it. I’m still not convinced you’re not just a bad trip.”

Moonmon pouted and turned away. Ryan ignored her, pushing up a large branch and ducking under it. He let go, not bothering to hold it for James.

“Damn, we’ve been walking for a while. We must really be in the boonies,” he said in disbelief. “If we could at least find a road or something, we could just hitchhike to a town, but it looks like it’s just jungle in every direction.”

Ryan’s head was spinning at how little sense this entire situation made. It still hadn’t even quite sunk in for him. This was probably for the best. This way, for the time being, he was able to keep a relatively level head, despite having no idea if he would ever manage to get home again.

“If we don’t find anybody soon, we’re gonna have to think about finding some shelter or something before it gets dark.”

Whenever that’ll be. Who the hell even knows what time it is? He couldn’t even see how high the sun was through all of the trees.
I'm down with that. I'd say it would make more sense for it to be weaker Digimon if we're going with a swarm. The Palmon would be cool, or Kunemon or something. Or maybe the group of weaker guys drive everyone together and then a Champion shows up, scaring them off, and we have to fight that. But a group of Champions would probably be a bit much for our Digimon to realistically handle at this point.
Moonmon shook her head. “There aren’t any humans in the Digital World. Only Digimon,” she explained to the boys. “There should be others who came here at the same time you did, though. They shouldn’t be too far from here.”

The Digital World? Ryan thought. What the hell is this place?

“I guess we’d better just look around for these other people,” Ryan suggested to James. He started walking off into the trees without bothering to hear what James had to say about it. Moonmon looked over, noticed he was gone, and then started hastily bouncing after him.

Ryan didn’t really care about these other people, or whatever Moonmon had been going on about earlier, but he had no idea where he was or how long he’d be there. He figured he’d be less likely to die if he stuck with a group.

“It sounds like you don’t know how we got here either,” he said to James. “What do you remember from before you woke up here? Where did you come from?”

The sooner I get to the bottom of what’s going on, the better.
We should probably try to get the characters all in one place soon so that things don't slow down before they get off the ground. How should we do that? Maybe have some big threat appear and drive them all towards each other? That would give us an excuse to have the guys' Digimon evolve and get all of the Digimon up to the same level.
“Wonderful,” Ryan murmured, looking at the bizarre creatures. So then this wasn’t some kind of crazy pipe dream.

“Hello. It’s nice to meet you,” said Moonmon in a friendly, formal tone. “My name is Moonmon, and this is…” She trailed off, looking to Ryan to introduce himself. He simply stared back at her defiantly. After a momentary battle of wills, Ryan eventually gave in. “Ryan,” he stated flatly.

Ryan raised an eyebrow upon seeing the device in James’ hand. So he had one too? Ryan held his own up for James to see. The devices were almost identical except for the coloring. The grips on the sides of James’ device were red, while Ryan’s were white.

“What are these things anyway?” Ryan asked James. However, it was Moonmon who answered.

“They’re called Digivices. That’s how I knew you were my partner.”

“What does it do?” he asked.

Moonmon paused with a confused look on her face. “Well, I don’t exactly … know. I don’t quite remember, it’s just … look, it’s very important, and we absolutely need them!”

“Why?”

“My, you’re just all questions, aren’t you?”

Ryan rolled his eyes. “Have you seen any other people?” he asked James. “The sooner we can figure out what the hell happened and get back to civilization, the better.”
The first thing Ryan noticed after he woke up was the splitting headache. He couldn’t tell if he was annoyed or relieved. After all, at least he wasn’t dead.

He groaned as he lifted himself off the ground and scanned his surroundings, at which point he froze in his tracks. He was surrounded by trees and all sorts of strange, tropical plants that he’d never seen before. As in, he was in a freaking jungle. And that was when his eyes fell on the strange thing that had been sitting five feet away from him the whole time he’d been awake.

“Greetings,” it said. “Welcome to the Digital World. My name is Moonmon.” The creature’s body almost looked like a water droplet. It wasn’t like anything that Ryan had ever seen before. He merely stared at “Moonmon” for several seconds, his face completely blank, as if he wasn’t registering a thing she said.

“Uh, well,” Moonmon continued, hesitantly. “You are probably wondering what you’re doing here. You see, a very dangerous group of Digimon known as the Demon Lords have taken control of this world, and we desperately need your help if we are to reclaim it from them, and make this world a safe place to live once more.”

There was still no reaction from Ryan.

“You have every right not to want to involve yourself in a fight that is not yours, and I understand if you do not wish to do so, but I beg you, warrior from another world, please lend me your strength and help us fight– Hey, where are you going?!”

Ryan had turned around and begun to calmly walk away, still paying no heed to the strange creature. By the time Moonmon started hastily bouncing after him, he was already several paces away, and she struggled to try to catch up. “Hey, listen,” the Digimon told the boy. “I know I said that I would understand if you weren't interested, but it's actually very, very, important that you say yes, so if we could maybe talk about this for a minute, that would be much appreciated! Are you even listening to me?!”

Ryan simply kept on walking for several minutes longer, ignoring Moonmon’s attempts to get his attention. Eventually, he wandered into a clearing. Another kid was lying on the ground, and there was another Digimon, this one shaped like some kind of sun-shaped candle, right next to him.

“Alright,” he said to the other boy. “This may be a weird question, but can you see the freakish abomination at my feet, too?”

Moonmon gasped. “How rude!” she exclaimed.
Ryan wandered down the street, dabbing at his busted lip with the front of his shirt. Of course I had to go and turn away from the second guy and get clocked in the face, he thought. I messed them up pretty bad though, so at least they probably won’t be bothering me anymore.

He sighed. If he had wanted to get into a stupid, pointless fight before lunchtime, he would’ve just stayed at school. He pulled out his phone to check the time. It was a cheap, pre-paid phone that he’d bought with some money he’d scrounged together from working a part-time job. Speaking of which, I’ve got to find another one of those, he thought. He hadn’t been making any money since getting fired last week, and his wallet was starting to feel very light. And it wasn’t like his parents were going to give him any money.

It was 11:30. Crap, is it still that early? I mean, I cut after only first period, so I guess that makes sense, but still. He sighed. What was he going to do with the rest of his day?

Screw it, he thought. Might as well just go home. His parents were probably home, but he doubted they’d even notice that he was supposed to be in school. He rounded the corner onto his street, spotting his apartment complex. Within a minute, he was opening the door to Apartment 42B. As expected, dear old Mom and Dad were passed out on the sofa, drunk. Good. That meant he wouldn’t be getting into another fight today.

He walked through the living room to his bedroom. It was a tiny space, with a bed on one side, a desk and chair on the other, a small window, a dresser, and clothes strewn all over the floor. The walls were bare. In fact, the room was hardly personalized at all. Ryan plopped down in the chair at his desk, and looked at his computer. The laptop looked like something out of the Stone Age. He had bought it off of a friend of an acquaintance who was trying to get rid of it. It was a piece of crap and ran slow as hell, but it worked, so it was good enough for him.

He flipped it open and turned it on, but as soon as he did, something caught his eye. Next to the computer, sitting right on his desk, was some kind of strange, white device. He picked it up and looked it over. It almost looked like some kind of weird walkie-talkie or something.

The hell is this doing in my room? he thought. Then, suddenly, his computer screen lit up like crazy, forcing him to shield his eyes. “What the hell?” he exclaimed, just before the light flared up again, filling the room, and he felt as if he was lifted off his feet and was being pulled towards something. He couldn’t help but start screaming as he fell into nothing, no idea where he was or what was happening. Then the world suddenly went dark, and he blacked out.
