Shots continued to fly to and fro, the light smoke with the pungent smell of the gas from the blasters blanketing the firefight, which traded shots carefully now, both sides content to wait behind their trees. Stojan's heart pounded as he let off another shot from his DL-44, one that went wide, a suppressing shot. Adrenaline surged within him, and a runner finally snuck his way forward. Sections 2 and 4 were away, and Section 3 was stuck in place with heavy casualties. He took the time to count his own section as the runner waited for a reply.
His eyes immediately fixed on a spot of crimson and black on the white of the snow, and his RTO lay mere feet away, a hole torn wide in the chest of his snowsuit, a half-cauterized mess of a sucking chest wound directly above his heart. He wished he hadn't seen the man, because Stojan knew the wound was hopelessly fatal, even as he bellowed in Uslamer, "MEDIC!"
He turned to the runner, a grimace on his face as he barked out a message. "Get the third section ready to load the wounded!" The runner nodded, running off with his A280 hanging off his bony frame and baggy snowsuit. Stojan turned back to the dying RTO, being worked on by the medic, ever-apparent that the medic was just trying to make him comfortable. Stojan worked at the straps connecting the comm pack to the RTO's back, wrestling it free. He grasped at the receiver, barking into it. "This is Captain Markovic to callsign 'Cverna', move up to last stated grid coordinates, over."
"Copy." Came the stern, static reply, and the low rumble of repulsor engines emanated from the device, or perhaps from the forest itself, further towards Phase Line Bravo.
First Shot - Phase Line Alpha, Grolsk Wilderness Reserve - 4:37 AM
As the sound of shots lingered in his ears among the newfound silence, Stojan made his move. He was in his trench, dug into the snow and connected to the First Section's, his headquarters's sections, shelter. Dug shallow but large enough for a crouching partisan to take cover in, it was inconspicuous, and seemingly that aspect had shown. The first phase line had gone off with relative success, an encroaching squad of stormtroopers eliminated by part of the 7th Uslam Liberators, the far off moans of the wounded all to remind of what losses they had taken.
The shots had come from their right, one of the other companies of the 7th. He'd known that it'd only be a matter of time before the Imperials shelled the whole grid square. And he didn't dare wait when the word was passed down the line that Phase Line Alpha was being abandoned. He snuck along his section's trench, clutching a DL-44 in his right hand, and a fusion lantern turned to the lowest output in his left. He came behind his second in command, a good friend, Lieutenant Milosevic, who sat staring idly at a manual clock by moonlight. Stojan spoke quickly but clearly, in a whisper-yell tone. "We're abandoning the phase line. Have the RTO inform the Colonel. And get a runner, I want all sections out of these trenches and to Phase Line Bravo in no more than ten minutes."
And suddenly, fire erupted far off, much further right than the last. Another engagement. Stojan took his leave from the Lieutenant, ducking into the section's shelter and stepping over bedrolls and cots strewn on the permafrost dirt, coming to his own paired with his rucksack. He expertly packed them all, slinging the rucksack with attached bedroll across his shoulder as other personnel around him did the same. As they all exited their shelter and dragged their bulky, snowsuit-clad bodies out of the trench, one of the Privates trailed behind, laying a detonator fuse into a wireless detonator. The mines that laid just under their trenches and on the roof of their shelter were armed.
They moved in columns by section through the pitch dark forest, ever wary of the far-off blaster fire as they trudged along, making idle corrections of direction with their compasses as they moved. The columns were dark, and silent, each section dragging their repulsorlift snow sleds behind them, with only the section leaders having their lanterns deployed, and not for light, only just to guide their sections.
First a pop as they trudged, thought as just a large branch cracking under the weight of trudging feet, but the ensuing flurry of red bolts proved otherwise, sailing over their heads. Repulsorlift sleds were deactivated and used as cover, the trees being cut and lit aflame for moments as falling snow snuffed the blazes. Fire from A280s and DH-17s answered, garbled encrypted speech from advancing stormtroopers putting pressure on the partisans.
Something needed to be done, and Stojan was mulling the thoughts as he was face down in the snow. He turned over, proclaiming in the native Uslam tongue. "Make a tactical withdrawal! I want the Second Section to lead, Fourth follows! First and Third, put out cover fire!" And he himself sprang to his knees, extending his DL-44 with one hand and aligning the sights.

Name: Lukas John Travers Age: 36 Gender: Male Race: Human Sub-Class: N/A Description: Lukas is a fairly ordinary Human, standing at approximately 5’10” (177 cm), and weighing in at about 166 lbs (75 kg). His hair is a dark brown, and his eyes are green, and he bears no scars or tattoos. History: Lukas was born in Fort Lee, Virginia, USA on January 14th, 1982. His father was in the United States Army, a Drill Sergeant for the Sustainment Center of Excellence at Fort Lee, Virginia, and his mother was a nurse working at Kenner Community Hospital on Fort Lee’s premises. He grew up primarily within the confines of Fort Lee, attending a local public school for other children of servicemen and women, and spending his free time wandering the base.
His father retired from service in 1997, and the family moved to Abingdon, Virginia. He lived there peaceably until the September 11th attacks, prompting 19-year-old Travers to enlist, and coaxing his father into reenlisting as well. Travers was shipped to Fort Benning, Georgia for BCT as MOS 11X. Before shipping out, he was given the chance to attend the Airborne School and Ranger School at Fort Benning, passing through RASP soon after.
Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in January of 2002, shipped over in time to participate in both Operation Anaconda and Operation Mountain Sweep in Afghanistan throughout the rest of 2002. As all three Ranger battalions were recalled to prepare for the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Travers was posted as such, deploying with the rest of the 3rd Ranger Battalion to capture and hold Haditha Dam. Following the invasion, the 75th Ranger Regiment relocated its detachments often, but generally kept the 3rd Battalion, along with Travers, around Tikrit launching raids against local insurgents. In 2006, he renewed his enlistment.
In 2007, while on extended leave in the United States, Travers was offered a slot in the next class of the Special Forces Qualification Course, the Green Berets selection program. Accepting, he graduated in just over a year, before being assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, and redeployed to Afghanistan, participating in a series of counterinsurgency operations in support of the Afghan Northern Alliance until 2012.
In mid-2012, with his contract with the US Army weeks away from terminating, he was again on extended leave in the United States, being kidnapped in his own home in early June. Carted to a Bureau site immediately, he was forcibly recruited into the Bureau Division of Threat Containment. Now a covert agent for the Bureau, he participated in an undisclosed amount of operations from the period of 2013 to early 2018, and advanced to the rank of Detachment Leader.

Government Description King Henry VIII has reigned for twelve years as of 1521, and as the second monarch of the Tudor House, he has thus far made, to say the best, a mess of it. His executions were an all too unpopular means of dealing with his critics, and his wife’s continued inability to birth a suitable heir strained his marriage, leading to scandals and mistresses, and even an illegitimate son.
However, King Henry is much more behind the wall of ill-temper, infidelity, and abhorrent relations with the Catholic church. As a monarch, Henry’s philosophy is one of absolute power. Only reigned by the Magna Carta, the Parliament’s powers, and threat of rebellion, he maintains nearly every aspect of the government on some level.
Relegated below him, is the nobles, their rule often confined to shires, counties, or provinces, and the administrative duties that it entails. In exchange, these nobles raise levies on King Henry’s call, riding into battle with their entourages of knights and hordes of peasants.
At the lowest level of the centralised government, the Parliament is made up of appointed individuals representing their regions. Initially a council summoned when the King was to collect taxes, it has since grown into a regulatory entity, one which can draft bills and suggestions to the King, and though legally the King can disregard these, the unrest caused would simply be too much of a risk, as such the Parliament is somewhat of a leash on Henry VIII’s ambitions.
History The true ‘modern’ Kingdom of England was founded during the Norman conquests, when William the Conqueror crossed the English Channel and conquered the English lands, proclaiming himself king. Over the next century, Norman lords began to also conquer Welsh lands, coming to control much of the interior Welsh lands.
As trades of land and arbitrary borders began to be drawn, the reigning king of the period, King Edward III, made a claim for the throne of France. Within the next century of war, appropriately titled the Hundred Years’ War, the English, at the start just disorganized fiefs, formed a national identity. Despite being defeated in the war and routed from France, the English were united under a common language (proto-English), a common line of royalty, and a region which to definitively call their own.
However, this union would not last long, as the battered and weakened English army, economy, and government were split during the War of the Roses. The House of Lancaster and House of York fought constantly over the throne of England, lasting nearly forty years before the illegitimate member of House Lancaster, named Henry VII, married Elizabeth of House York, founding an entirely new House of Tudor, finally claiming the throne of England.
Henry VII was wise and frugal during his reign. Careful to not spark yet more civil war, and very frugal as to stimulate the economy, he grew the Kingdom of England to its greatest extent on the isle itself. As he died, it became immediately apparent that his heir was not as wise as he. That was twelve years ago, and now Henry VIII has drained a significant amount of the English coffers, squandered his relations with the people, annoyed his nobles, and caused a rift with the Catholic church.
But now there is speech of a land beyond, to the west. For eight years, King Henry has poured cash into endeavors to what he hopes will be the end of his debts and troubles, to make a legacy as the king which conquered the west.
Military During Henry VIII’s reign, England’s military has been rather neglected. The permanent standing Royal Forces of just under 1,000 men are all that remains of the once great armies that tiraded around France’s shores. Despite their small size, however, this force is nevertheless elite, and well-equipped. This Royal Force is made up of primarily paid, but loyal, professionals, ranging from a King’s guard of heavy cavalry, a contingent of polearms, and a mixture of light infantry, longbowmen, and javelinmen. Additionally, with essentially the blank check Henry VIII had given them, a well-maintained contingent of nearly 75 arquebusiers provide an advantage with gunpowder. In support, a battery of four serpentine guns and two siege bombards provides adequate artillery support.
As for the bulk of the forces, they are often levies or volunteers from the holdings of lords sworn in fielty to the King, with quotas determined based on the holding’s size. These levies often are not near as well-equipped as the Royal Force, but they are ideal for a prolonged engagement in which mass amounts of frontline melee troops and adequate skirmishers are needed. Each lord is responsible for mustering their troops, but greater minds than the King have made a checklist of standardization, provided as a stipend by the government, in some recalling to the Marian system.
And as well, those who are due for service are given the option to, instead of fight, pay the coin needed to hire a mercenary in their stead. This often leads to England’s more modern levies being more trained mercenaries than common rabble. As of current, England can only raise and support 18,000 troops.
As for the navy, Henry VIII has shown some competence in his interference here, having replaced the serpentines aboard the vessels with larger bombards, with superior ranges and damage. Credited with founding the Royal Navy itself, King Henry has nearly drained the coffers commissioning a new squadron of carracks and caravels which will sail west.
Economy Henry VIII began his reign with a spectacular situation for England’s economy. A large fortune, a steady income of taxes approved by parliament, and an insignificant drain on the treasury, all meticulously maintained by his father, Henry VII. As with most things, Henry VIII nearly drove this all into the ground. His extravagant spending, mismanagement, and corruption operating under his nose all drained the coffers steadily. The approved tax margin eroded by works of Parliamentary lobbying by rivals, and then said rivals pocketed the loss.
Grasping at straws, he allowed himself reigned in by advisors. Now, with only a fraction of the money he had at the outset of his reign, Henry is making a last-ditch attempt at fortune and glory, putting all his faith and coin on an expedition westward to the New World, in search of gold and land.
International Relations /Issues / Disputes Henry VIII, in his bouts of infidelity, profanity, and greed, has utterly strained his relations with the Catholic church. Coming close to excommunication on many occasions, he now treads lightly with the Church.
