Bio

New roleplay: https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/189457-the-eye-of-the-needle-where-fantasy-and-sci-fi-collide/ooc

Hey, I'm Catharyn! I joined the Roleplayer Guild on 2nd Feb 2011, then rejoined on the 17th Jan 2014 after Guildfall.

I was active every day until late 2015, accruing (i think) around 7k posts across dozens of roleplays. Then, I started working and had to gradually slow down my RP schedule. In 2017, I officially went on hiatus when other commitments got fully in the way of roleplaying.

This continued until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when I suddenly realised I had a lot more free time in lockdown! So in mid-2020, I returned to the Guild with a vengeance. I also managed to get The Cradle 1x1 off the ground - a story i've had percolating for almost a decade.

My posting schedule has slowed down a bit now that the world has opened up again. I still love science fiction, fantasy and espionage themes, and generally aim for around 300 words per post.

Unfortunately not, what's that about?
Augmentation would be tolerated because there is nothing against it in the constitution. However there's an ongoing debate about it and interactions between people who believe in both sides sometimes get a little...out of hand? Most people keep a low profile regarding it but there are always extremists. Think Deus ex Machina.
A large percentage of Babylon's citizens have genofixed glands, which can produce a cocktail from thousands of pre-programmed chemicals which have varying effects on the body. Some are for pleasure, some are for focus, some are for stamina etc. Once you're familiar with your gland and its capabilities, you can to a degree master certain chemical impulses to make them more defined, or mix them up to create something entirely new.

As for Augmentation, integration of organic and Machine mind. (think Master Chief and Cortana), bio tech, replacement limbs etc. All kind of things. Bare in mind that most of the stuff is subtle and not fit for conversation at dinner parties etc. There are various alignments, pro-humans who believe in not tampering the body and remaining pure, pro-machine who believe in melding man and machine. Of course to start off with this debate isn't going to be at the forefront of the RP.
Okay great. Augmentation and genofixing is something of a fad in Outremer at the time of RP.
Not a problem, ask away whenever you want! I'd rather you got all the info than get confused.
It's collaborative story writing. You take care of your character, and everyone else will dictate the rest. Of course there are rules, guidelines and etiquette but it's all fairly straightforward. We're trying to create a picture and story for everyone to enjoy basically.
Thank you both, it means a lot to me :) I'm open to all suggestions.
Great! :) Not a problem. Back to work now, in between re-watching the superbowl
Hehe, that's what i was going for. :)

Seven people are interested, that's reasonable grounds to start an OOC methinks. Everyone feel free to work on a character skelly, i'll put the official CS up soon, but if you fill in everything you want for your character free style we can work on it together.
Certain machine Minds have been sentient for a while now and have gained the same rights as Humankind. The various treatises and agreements are far to complex to go into but most of the machines made by Humanity swear a bond of allegiance to the Babylon council and the city. Their intelligence is rated with numbers, 1.0 is standard human intelligence. Personal assistance droids might have this intelligence. Anything below 1.0 is below average intelligence and is given to combat droids or menial task robots. Intelligences can theoretically go up infinitely but so far the cleverest Intelligence recorded in Babylon is 4555.0.

Intelligence is measured by foresight, planning, logic and reasoning, personality, and number crunching ability. If any of you have read the Culture Series of books, the AI is exactly like the Minds found there.
