I wrote her to be outside, but it's not a huge deal. If anything; it could just be a time difference, and she'll go into the cabin and respond after the counselor speech is given. Or if Soph wants to change their post, that's cool too.

beep. Beep. Beep. Beep! BEEP! BEEP! Kate Rhodes pushed herself groggily up onto one elbow and reached over to turn off the alarm. It was four in the morning, and the first time in a good week or two that she hadn't been able to sleep in -- but that was life, and putting the thing on snooze would just be delaying the inevitable. She clambered onto her feet, walked the short distance to her bathroom at the end of the hall, and savored what might be the last completely-comfortable shower of her summer. With that complete, and feeling more awake by the minute, she pulled her hair back into a simple low ponytail and applied some very light makeup (it was summer camp, after all, no point in overdoing things). Crossing back to her bedroom and from there into the closet, Kate pulled on some jeans, a tank top and a light olive-green jacket. California could be chilly in the mountains, she'd heard.

Other movement was beginning to stir from around the house, as Kate's parents went about their own morning routines. She was the first to descend the stairs, though, to find something to eat. In the end, after a short time spent searching, she decided to just pop a bagel into the toaster and call it a day. Plate of food in hand, yawning, she ate and idly browsed her phone while waiting for her mom to be ready to go.

Eventually all was prepared -- the luggage was hauled into the car, Kate had said goodbye to her dad, and she and her mother set out on the road. It was a long trip, and one that they'd only make about halfway together -- Elizabeth Rhodes had to be back for the afternoon to lecture. Instead, Kate would take a bus up into the mountains proper. It took about an hour into the drive before Kate felt awake enough to complain. "I just don't see why you had to set me up for such a long trip," she began. "Ten weeks is practically the entire summer, and I had things that I wanted to do." But it was far too late to be protesting. "Come on, Katie," her mom replied idly, eyes on the road, "don't be like that. It'll be fun! When I was your age I dreamed of staying up in the mountains." That was the argument she'd chosen to use for a good month now, and Kate was almost certain it was bullshit -- her mom practically fainted at the sight of a large enough spider, and had never in her life been camping. "And this wasn't very cheap, so just try to have fun." The tired argument always ended when money came up. Kate turned half onto her side in her seat, lowered it back, and failed to nap for the rest of the drive.

From there, as the sun finally began to dawn on the horizon, it was on to the bus. At the forest edge, hills reaching up into mountains a ways away, a throng of older adolescents were waiting. If you block out all the people, Kate thought, it's actually very pretty. She hoped that was a good sign of things to come. The silent reflection was broken, however, when a limousine pulled up and some obnoxious dude emerged -- door opened by a chauffeur, even. Kate's family wasn't exactly struggling for money, and she had even richer friends, but the idea of being driven by limo to a bus stop made her stifle a laugh. But the kid made a scene, some girl snapped a picture of said scene, and soon it was time to bus.

The bus itself was hardly revolutionary, but at least there were like-minded people inside. Kate made small talk in the middle of the bus and grimaced at the ever-dropping amount of reception on her phone as the bus climbed the uneven road. At the back of the bus, the rich kid was reading The Great Gatsby, which seemed fitting. Eventually the bus arrived at its destination and vomited its denizens out onto the grounds of Camp Aces High. The spiel given by the camp's director to start things off was most interesting not in its contents but in the person delivering it -- there was no way that any of the staff members Kate could see were older than twenty-five. Was that good or bad? She wasn't sure.

At the calling of her name, Kate stepped up to receive her envelope and tore it open short distance away. Queen of hearts, it said, and she remembered that the camp had some attempt at a theme. A few kids seemed to wander away from where they had been told to wait for the counselors, but Kate had enough patience to stand around until the official signal was given. As the group that she supposed made up the 'hearts' walked towards their cabins, she surveyed the people around her, but didn't initiate conversation herself. There would be plenty of time for that coming up. Finally, arriving at a set of three cabins, she looked up to hear this promised introduction from the counselors.
Alrighty, here's mine. Forgive me for the "song" lyrics, I got bored and doubt it matters anyways. And honestly, not that irrelevant.

There are also only two images instead of four, because I already spent an hour sifting through shady stock image sites to find those two that looked similar and appropriate to the character and I think any more time spent would qualify as some sort of torture. Please forgive me.
And of course, it's right before my eight-hour workday :P I should have something up there within 24h.
This sort of thing is pretty much the antithesis of my usual RPing shtick, but I'm feeling in the mood for something lighter. Interested, if it's not too full of people already.
Interested, why not.
