She couldn't help it, he was getting to her. Melody felt giddy and light headed, but the iron core of her will finally came forward. "Stop this. You're letting him tug you along like he owns you. Just because that's not what he means by it doesn't mean you should just follow his every command! Snap out of it and get back in control."

At the top of the stairs, she gently pulled her hand from his and stepped down, raising a barrier around her soul. It wasn't like an iron wall, meant to keep people out, it was just a clear and present boundary. "I'll walk, thank you," She said without her earlier giddiness. She stayed in front until they reached the bottom, then let him lead the way.

"Also," She added, "I'd prefer to start training before tomorrow's classes. There's no point in being part of the advanced class if we don't have anything to show for it. I assume you have at least some kind of open area at your house?" Her words were impersonal, but not cold. It was the kind of tone you used with a friend when there was business to be done. "There will be time for more pleasantries later," She told herself, "After I'm back in my right mindset."

Melody felt her face heat again when her brushed her hair away, but even though she felt her heart almost stop at his touch she was more prepared now, and didn't totally freak out. As he led her away, she found it hard to focus on anything but the warmth of his hand on her shoulder. "Jeeze," The working part of her mind thought, "What am I? A little schoolgirl talking to her crush?" She flushed more when she realized just how close to home that comment hit, her new Meister was handsome, polite and just a little eccentric, exactly the type of person she could fall for. Luckily she was broken out of her thoughts by Jacholaus' voice.

"Seriously, get a hold of yourself." She thought. "Thank you," She said to him, her voice showing no sign of her internal monologue, "To be honest, I suppose I will need a place to stay now. I used to have a place, but, uh, let's just say it wasn't exclusively mine." If she wanted to be really honest, it wasn't hers at all. She had been squatting in some Meister's attic, which is how she came to learn of the academy in the first place.
