Charles grimaced, shaking his head. "No offense, but given our line of work I'm not going to tell you anything about my family. We're spies and hired guns, and I don't know who's going to turn on me." He drank the contents of his glass, trying to relax. Waving to the bartender, he said "Can I get some water over here?" He rubbed his temples, trying to stave off the impending headache, he turned back to Eidren. "If you want to ask about me, I can probably answer those questions."

Charles glanced at Eidren as he approached, then back to his drink. He closed his eyes as he listened to the other man talk. When he asked his question, Charles said "Often enough." at the same time Sophia said "Far too often." Sophia leaned back, looking at Eidren over Charles' back. "It's not like he has anywhere else to be when he's off the clock, though. I think he should get a hobby, especially now that his sister moved out of town." Charles shot her a glare, and she grinned at him unfazed. "What about you?" he asked, turning back to Eidren.

Charles sat at the end of the bar, contemplating his vodka glass. Sighing, he brought the shot up to his mouth and tipped it back, narrowing his eyes slightly at the burn in his throat. His eyes wandered around the rest of the tavern as he waved to the bartender. The room was almost empty, it being Tuesday. He sighed, looking back at the bartender as he arrived. "Another shot of this, please." he said, only half paying attention. Sophia formed beside him, leaning her elbows on the bar. "You know, looking for company at a bar works better if you don't sit by yourself." Charles didn't answer, taking the new glass in his hands.
ha. A post for Charles in a bar is pretty much gonna be a description of his drink, but it makes sense to start since Charles isn't the type to start a conversation in a bar.
hey Alpha, weren't you asking for someone to join you in the lobby?

sorry, i'm clear as mud on what this meant. do you mean you're waiting for us or that you're not waiting for us?
That works too.

Also Elizabeth has a side to her I wasn't prepared for. I planned for her to be a skilled warrior, but when i wrote that post i could actually FEEL her bloodlust.
oh well... that's an issue.

it looks like my post contradicted the end of yours Jinx, but it's late here and I'm too tired to rewrite it in such a major way, and if i just delete it and make another one tomorrow who knows how long it'll take for it to be right (especially if other people post).

can i ask you a favor and just change that last paragraph, making it so they don't break through till your next post?
Caroline let out a startled shriek as the stones beneath her feet bucked, then began to fall. She lost her ballance and fell over the edge, clutching the knot in her hand as if it would keep her from falling. She closed her eyes as she knew the ground was about to meet her, but impact never came as a giant blue creature materialized where she was landing, softening the blow. Grall turned and lay down, letting Caroline slide off his back, then shambled over to Elizabeth. Quickly she began to remove the plates from her familiar's body, each one melting into a piece of armor as she took them. Soon she was fully covered in armor that looked like blue leather and sliding a pair of hardened leather gloves on her hands. "I hope they get this far." she sneered, her now awakened blood lust bringing out a whole new side of her, "I'll show them how the Demon of Unarmed Combat earned her name." She shook, using all of her willpower to hold herself back. She couldn't allow herself to get caught up in the battle and leave the queen behind.
Caroline recovered quickly, still holding the knot in her hand. "Rear row," she said, commanding the clay soldiers, "Take bows and ascend the wall, split into two groups and each take the wall to either side of the gate. Form three rows and rotate, the first row retreating to the rear after they fire to ready your arrows again, the second row stepping forward and doing the same, then the third. Repeat until you are out of arrows, or there are no more unfriendly targets to shoot at." As they hurried to carry out their duties, she continued. "Of those remaining, one third take up kite shields and position yourselves in front of the gate, using your shields to stop their advance. Overlap the shields three high. The rest of you, stand by for further instructions. If the enemy breaks through the shield column, your standing order is to engage them unless otherwise ordered by myself." As her orders were carried out, Caroline looked around for help. She wished Henry hadn't left her in charge of this, she was afraid she had given the wrong orders and wasted a valuable resource, or even worse messed up with whatever plan the others had devised. She had studied strategy in her lessons, but she wasn't nearly ready to actually command an army, even one made of clay. She reached for her weapon, only to realize she had lost it somewhere during her fall. glancing around, she spotted an extra bow on a rack, with a full quiver of arrows leaning beside it. Strapping the quiver around her shoulder, she picked up the bow and nocked the first arrow, ready to draw it and let fly at the first person she saw break through that shield wall. She slowed down her breathing, clearing her mind and preparing herself for what she planned. It's just like your archery classes. Just breath in, draw back, breath out and release.
