Alex looked at her, his gaze almost mournful. "It used to, for me. I used to think I was dying when I used my powers. I still have some mementos from then." He reched up and pulled down his shirt collar, revealing a heavy burn scar just below his shoulder. Letting his shirt back up, he continued. "Eventually I learned to controlthem, but I don't think you want to do it the way I did. I had to give myself over completely and let the tempest roll over me until it calmed. I almost died, and anyone with less strength or luck than me would have. I didn't have time to put the pieces together myself, but you do. I'm sorry I can't be more help." For the first time Nyx saw pain and fury in Alex's eyes, but in a moment it was gone. "Be safe, all right? Don't let Z catch you sneaking out." And with that he was gone, as if he melted back into the shadows.
