Well, now nessie has an excuse to go find Caroline's dorm.

Once he knew she was done, he turned back around and walked over to the bed. As she curled up, he sat on the side next to her and stroked her hair. He started humming a lullaby like he used to when she couldn't sleep, and they were back at his house with a lightning storm outside. He closed his eyes, and like when they were children he started falling asleep himself slowly. Eventually he was lying next to her peacefully, still humming softly as he drifted into oblivion.

Alex nodded wordlessly and stood up, putting his arms around her. He didn't really want to deal with the students right now, but he didn't want to risk making Nyx any more upset, so he collapsed the bubble and tried to move towards his quarters. Once he got there, he locked the door and used his power to freeze it shut with special ice. Not even Z would get through that without blowing half the building away. He walked Nyx over to the bed and sat her down, walking over to the closet. Reaching into the back, he pulled out what looked like a full skirt dress made of black wool. "Every time I get a new sweatshirt I do this. It might have been the only thing to keep me sane." He handed it to her and turned around, walking to the other side of the room.

Alex tried to move backwards, but just pressed harder against the wall. "No," He whispered, trying to convince himself. "You couldn't have. Nothing so dark could be your fault. I did it, the blame is mine. It... It..." Alex tried to avert his gaze, but couldn't look away. In an almost inaudible voice, he said "It started when you left. I ran away a month later. You can't be blamed though, it's not your fault. You're the only reason it didn't happen sooner. Nyx, please..." He pleaded with his eyes. "Don't blame yourself. I can live with being a monster, but if you thought it was because of you I... I'd..." He couldn't finish the sentence, choking on the words.

Let me simplify. In the 19 years Nyx has been gone, Alex ran away from home, found a mentor, under that mentor's guidence hurt hundreds of people and killed a dozen, after the mentor died he become completely apathetic until he met Z, at which point he continued to hurt and kill people under his Orders. Now Nyx is back and with her his conscience, which is now dissembling him atom by atom.
