Alex felt his heart break when she pulled away. "Nyx, I didn't... I just don't want to see you..." but it was already too late, she was gone. He tried to get up and follow her again, but found he didn't have the will to stand. "Nyx," he whisoered, as if saying her name would bring her back. "You hate me after all, don't you?" Slumping back against the wall, he held his hand in front of his face. "Starfire..." he said, and a bluish white flame spread from his fingers, iluminating the tears rolling down his face. "Is this my punishment then? To get what I want most and lose it because of my own ineptitude? I guess I can't say I don't deserve it."

Caroline just looked at the two of them, the walked back into her room, having been forgotten. "This place is wierd..." she muttered.

So, Caroline is like a mini Alex if Alex hadn't run away. She's kind, gentile, forgiving, inteligent, can kick the asses off most ment twice her age, and refuses to drop a subject when she thinks she can help. What I'm saying is good luck getting Alex to move on until Nyx gives Nessie a second chance.

"It's not the same here. Back then I was young and ignorant, far too trusting, and I got you into trouble. Now I know people's hearts, and Nessie is a good person who needs a positive influence. And besides," he lifted her chin so she was looking into his eyes, "I wasn't there to protect you back then, and my sister will be there too. Do you trust me, Nyx?"

Alex looked at her sadly. "You know that if I could, Nyx, I would not hesitate to leave this broken world behind, but I cannot. The best I can do is help you here." He pickedlifted her onto his lap, stroking her hair softly. "Keep in mind we humans are mistrustful by nature. All of the students here are good people, changed by the tragedy of living here. I'm sure even Z was once kind. Nessie learned to deal with the world by keeping it and everybody else at arms length, it's not your fault you don't know. You innocently believe that people will accept you immediately, and there is nothing wrong with innocence." Alex held her close and spoke into her ear. "Can you give her another chance? Not only for me, but for both of you? I think she is ready to accept you now."
