Blood in the Sands

Over the last Century, the Kadaluk province of the great Steppe has been under the control of the Jala’si, and part of the Saladar. Jala’si’s rule is divine, the people believing him to be a god sent from the heavens to rule them in the form of a man. His empire is vast, ruled by steel and the horse. A nomadic people mostly, the Saladar are a hardy, ruthless people who value strength and victory above anything else. The loss of the Kadaluk province is unthinkable. The people turned to their Jala’si with their questions. How does a mortal, even a group of mortals, best a god. What did the people of the Kadaluk do to deserve such a fate? The Jala’si was enraged, having suffered such an embarrassment at the hands of these outsiders. He called to him his war council, vowed his vengeance, and swore a god’s wrath upon those who dare to stand up against him.

The truth is the enemy came out of nowhere, from the lands beyond the great sea that borders the Kadaluk. Great ships carried the hoards onto their shores and before word of any attack had reached the capital, Kadaluk had fallen. The Jala’si had been blind to the events on his eastern border. No messenger had been dispatched with news of an attack until ten days after the fall, when a loan rider arrived. He told of the fall of Kadaluk to foreigners from across the sea.

But the damage has been done. Even now, there are whispers of Kulai’s fitness to be Kadaluk. Though none dare voice it publically, some whisper of his obvious mortality, finding that they follow and worship a false deity in their Jala’si. Priests stand on pulpits and before the hoards preaching the word of the capital – the people of the Kadaluk are being punished for a lack of faith. They are no longer worthy of being in the empire, of belonging to the Jala’si. It is said that he has turned his back on them, so that they will repent and come back to his light.

Meanwhile an envoy has arrived in the city from the east, from Kadaluk. Seven men escorting a single woman to the court of Kulai. There our curtain opens, and our play beings with a royal audience in the throne room of the great Jala’si Kulai.

What I’m looking for, to help flesh this out, is an advanced roleplaying partner. Someone who is over the age of 18, and who understands that what is written does not necessarily represent the beliefs of the player. What I’m suggesting is a land based off old Mongolia, a time where women were oppressed, rulers were gods, and men were not nearly as well behaved as they are today. If you feel this will offend, please do not respond. I do plan to play the characters as close to accurate as possible.

I will be playing Jala’si Kulai, the lord of the Saladar.
