"Hey," snapped Marina. "I was a human once. I suppose I still am." She assumed he couldn't hear her, so she just kept up with her wandering, stopping once to take in the wonderful world through the senses of a living passerby. It was amazing; in her regular old ghost form she could only hear and see, she couldn't taste or smell or feel much.
Global climate change alarmed the scientists of the human race. They rushed to create solutions to the warming environment, and the feats granted by billions of dollars in government grants were astounding. Unfortunately, in Man's desperation to reverse the mistake made by fossil fuel emission, he made another mistake. Vast mirrors were launched into Earth's orbit. Sulfur dioxide was injected in massive amounts into the stratosphere. Algae plants were built to absorb carbon dioxide from the choked atmosphere. For many, many decades, as these efforts increased, the climate seemed to be improving, as atmospheric levels of CO2 dropped almost to levels similar to the Industrial Revolution.
Humanity had created a massive albedo effect, and removed much of the carbon dioxide that had been sending the Earth's climate out of control.
Then, the planet wobbled in its orbit.
Crops withered and livestock froze. The ice caps, now free of what had seemed like their doom, began to creep farther along the globe than they had in 12,000 years. After years of debate, sluggish governments finally scrambled to remove or destroy the orbiting mirrors, ordered the algae plants to shut down. By now, though, it was too late: the white ice sheets reflected sunlight off the planet, and what was humanity to do--start burning fossil fuels again? They'd just about run out and switched to more efficient energy sources years ago. With food supplies dwindling, riots erupted in every major city on Earth. Many deaths were not from starving or freezing, but from fighting.
Now, it is left to the last few handfuls of humans to survive in the harsh environment left to them by their ancestors.

Woohoo! ;u; I'm working on the OOC right now. It might take longer than I expected, though.
Durga ducked into the cafeteria, stood in line while tapping a foot impatiently, and snatched up some food quickly. She went at a quick trot to a mostly-empty table and perched there.
Dione took a deep breath in...and a slow breath out. She stared at the intruders from across the street, out of a window that had long ago shattered. One of them had nearly missed one of her snares. She picked her mask up from the ground and tied it on, grabbing her blowdarts and scurrying out to follow them in silence. She had to make sure they wouldn't steal her food, from her land. She climbed up a good tall tree and watched from behind the foliage as she lay on her belly across a branch with her darts at the ready.

Name: Angelica West
Age: 17
House: Hufflepuff
Wand: It's a black walnut wand and has a dryad hair core. It is 12 and 3/4 inches long and is brittle. It has a beautiful glow and is intricately carved.
Pet: Male spectacled owl named Tank.
Appearance: Reddish-brown hair worn in two braids, pale brown eyes and a slightly chubby build. She has a few freckles on her cheeks, and an acne scar here and there.
Bio: She's Muggle-born, so she was slightly homesick for her tech at first, but she's fine with snail mail, and thinks it's pretty badass to have a mail-delivering owl. Her parents (as well as herself) were of course really taken aback when her letter arrived in the mail, but of course, everything was sorted out as they came to terms with the fact that their daughter was a witch. She grew up around Hastings, doesn't have too many friends, and is quite relieved to go home every summer and Christmas break. She loves the whole magic thing though.
