We got many more people while I slept! Clearly this means I am such a great player when it comes to promoting things that I can recruit people even in my sleep! But um, seriously welcome aboard all and I hope we can have a great time.
Well, I can ask around and advertise it in my sig even since I'm not doing anything else in it, but might I also suggest that maybe we put up a little flavour-text and an explanation for the RP on the first OOC post at some point? So that it grabs people's attention.
The key words there being 99% lighthearted and hotblooded fun, Given that I'm not sure why you'd choose to focus so heavily on the 1% darkness. Also, the stuff you're imagining happening to Hancock's your interpretation, and it sure sounds like you're complaining.
Yeah honestly I can't agree with being in the same RP as that horrifying backstory or the character it created because it's frankly made me feel sick to my stomach and I'm a little bit concerned that Cardcaptor was able to come up with it in the first place in response to a One Piece RP and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable even if he changed it. Sorry but I think I'm out too considering it's generally not good when something in an RP makes me want to vomit.
Right, thanks and sorry for all the trouble. I was mainly bothered because I've been in a lot of stuff before where because no one had to be screened characters wound up getting involved then having incredibly dark and gruesome backstories that clashed with the tone of the RP or backstories that contradicted the story and made things messy. Or it just turned out that multiple characters had personalities so completely opposite of one or more party members that it became impossible for them to work together without derailing the RP.
Plus, if you as the GM have access to characters backstories and personalities and they're any good, you can use them as plot hooks to set up cool arcs or recurring things or manipulate the characters in cool or even devious ways since you know how they're supposed to act.

I feel bad making you do all that, really. It was more the lack of personality details that was giving me a feeling like people wouldn't work very hard on character development and fleshing out than people choosing to keep bios revealed later, to be honest. organically getting to know characters is fine, the thing that sparked my frustration with the RP was a concern that people giving sparse details about their characters meant they either wouldn't develop them well or would make personalities and backstories that clashed with the setting or characters.
Maybe in order to preserve the organic nature we could just have people PM those details to you as GM?

um, I know I should have said this before or not at all but I was really tired over the past few days and frankly haven't been giving RPs very much attention so here goes: um, a lot of these bios are REALLY bothering me. Like, immensely. They're almost all only like one sentence or two for each category if even that much, the Fishman character is supposed to be a shark or something but his picture is a weird fish-tailed horse thing and the ONLY things we know about cardcaptor's character other than appearance is that they're horribly traumatized and have PTSD and freakout, which...I know One Piece can have a LOT of dark stuff in it but I feel like it's not supposed to be that bad and really screws with the adventure tone. Also seriously, I'm the only one whose bio or personality is more than two sentences? I feel like I know absolutely nothing about any of the characters and we're starting without anyone's bio even being very much finished which I guess is okay but seriously these signups make it seem like we're doing Free instead of Casual which...isn't really my style or fun for me.
