Appearance: Jack is a solidly built, but by no means bulky, man. He stands at 6'0 and weighs 200 lbs, with much of it being lean, athletic muscle. His dark black hair lies just above his eyes, mere centimeters from laying over them, and stand in stark contrast to his ice blue eyes. His tan skin isn't marked by as many scars as one would expect, but some still appear. A circular scar on his cheek marks one particularly painful failure when training with his climbing gear, with another long one down his right arm marking a knife-fight gone bad in the streets of Vextrik.
Biography: Jack was born into a rough set of circumstances in Vextrik city. His father was a Wallmender, while his mother worked at one of the facilities that produced the food for the city. As a result, his contact with his father was reasonably spotty, as he stayed on the shifts as often as possible. Even off work, his father wasn't home very often, preferring to avail himself of the "services" of some local "professionals", putting a strain on his marriage. Though, Jack did have a caretaker in the form of his neighbor Kenny. Kenny, however, was a bit of a shady man, dealing in "extras" swiped from city trucks whenever he had the chance. If you needed something cheap, or something the government didn't want you to have, you called Kenny. As a result, he occasionally came into conflict with the authorities, which didn't set the greatest role model for Jack.
Around the age of 12, he began to get involved with Kenny's business, swiping things from people and places. He was pretty good at it too, able to slip in and out without too much fuss. One day, however, a mark wanted revenge when Jack swiped a particularly valuable trinket. He tipped the authorities off about Kenny's 'business', and after a raid Kenny was incarcerated, leaving Jack in the less than capable hands of his aunt Jenny, a woman who couldn't leave the bottle behind to save her own life, and who demanded drinking money from all around her. Jack, being the man he was, was only too happy to oblige her, and make some money of his own on the side. He continued his dirty street business until age 18, when he was told his father died while meeting with one of his favorite "professionals". Around the same time, Jack came a little too close to sharing Kenny's fate, narrowly managing to stop a man from escaping to tell the authorities about Jack, where he got the scar on his arm.
These two things happening so close together convinced Jack to seek new work, but he'd lived by knife and gun for awhile now and didn't have much to offer otherwise. So, without much of a choice, he enlisted as a Wallmender, where his skills with weapons and fighting were useful to the other Gunnies. Much like his father, he had trouble with the climbing gear, though unlike his father he was able to move past it. In the intervening ten years, Jack has served with some distinction, though with very little in the way of true combat experience, he can claim more than many of the new Wallmenders, if only because of his checkered past.
