Name: Andica Garun

Abstract: A runaway bookbinder trying to escape an awful match

Details: Andica grew up as the oldest of three children in her family. Her father put bread on the table by breeding and training dogs, be they for hunting, guarding, or as pets. Andica helped him with the animals from a young age, and her assistance became increasingly important, particularly after her younger brother and sister were born and money became increasingly tight.

At 14, she took a job as an apprentice bookbinder at the Enn library, while still working with the dogs in her eveinings. She proved adept at this exacting process, and in the process became a voracious reader, devouring books on many subjects as they passed through the workshop and gaining a broad general knowledge of Enn and its workings. She even read a few texts brought in by travellers.

Unfortunately, working here also brought her into contact with Santini Quade, a nobleman of the city who often came in to buy rare books, and whom she found disagreeable in more ways than she could name. While she was never able to express this to his face (he was a lucrative customer, and not to mention a wealthy nobleman), she remained forcedly civil towards the man, even as he continued to come by the library and particularly the workroom with increasingly frustrating regularity.

This all came to a head after three years, when, while Andica was at the library, Santini visited her family’s home and kennels. He initially seemed to be interested in a large hound, but soon revealed that he had been infatuated with Andica for some time and had come to ask for her hand in marriage. Her parents were very pleased by the proposed match, as it would earn their daughter a much improved life and themselves a sizeable dowry. They agreed at once, and asked Satini to come back on the following day to finalise details of the marriage.

When Andica came home to learn of this, she was horrified, and protested vehemently that she would never marry, to quote her words, “a thickheaded, arrogant, callous, narcissistic pig of a man twice my age, who would treat me like nicely made-up dirt for the rest of my life”. Her parents sympathised, but nonetheless encouraged her to reconsider, saying how much better her life would be among the upper echelons of Enn’s society and citing Santini’s better qualities. In spite of this, the debate went back and forth well into the night and no agreement was reached.

As Andica lay fuming on the bed she shared with her siblings, she remembered seeing Spook’s notice on her way home that evening. It seemed like the only way for her to escape her impending wedding was to flee the city. She carefully got up, cobbled together a few supplies and slipped out of the house with them, her father’s musket, and Kavinika, the hound Santini had showed interest in, to save him as well. The two of them were at the gate well before dawn, and eager to be off before anyone could discover they were gone.

Andica is generally quiet and hardworking, though she has a fiercely independent streak. She is a perfectionist who strives for the best in what she does, and likes to improve on things if she thinks she sees a better way.

Andica has a slim, almost scrawny figure, and mid-length dark brown hair that she is forever pushing out of her hazel eyes. She is five feet, nine inches tall and is wearing a brown shirt and grey pants, both of which are slightly too big for her.

Kumanu

Kumanu heard a thump and a crash as he crawled out of the warehouse's air vent, a squirming burnak cub clutched between his hands. The feline rahi had got itself stuck in there, and had been making quite a racket.

"Don't mind me, sir" he commented to the angry turaga. "Just finished getting this little guy. I'm surprised how far in he managed to get, even after falling through from the roof. There was a bent grill covering up there, but I've fixed that now, so it shouldn't happen again. Unless there's something more you need, I'll just be on my way"

He waited a moment for Talur to respond, though he was really just asking to be polite. It didn't seem like a good time to be around the frosty elder, and he had another callout to attend before the end of the day. The sooner he was out of there, the better.

Suavo

Jovial music blared loudly around him as the carnival rolled into Fe-Congro, and Suavo was enjoying himself immensely. All about, tents were beginning to go up and a huge stage was being constructed at the far end of the park where the Red Star festival would be held in two days time.

The big city was full of lights and noise even as the dusk fell. Suavo took another bite from the fried dikapi leg he was munching on as his ussal cart slowed to a stop. This was going to be a fun time, he decided. Here, he would be surrounded by as many matoran as he cared to meet, all of them happy and celebrating another good year in Kongero Nui. The strong, salty taste of dikapi filled his mouth, and life was good.

He could use a drink though. Jumping down from the cart, he patted the ussal's head and went off in search of somewhere he could buy a beverage.

Sure. They could even see each other pretty regularly. Perhaps the place in the forest where Hura often looks for vuata maca fruit is near to a colony of brakas, where Kumanu brings any of the monkeys that have ben caught in the city. When they happen to be in the area at the same time, they stop and chat.

Name: Suavo
Gender: Male
Element: Gravity
Kanohi: Kanohi Rode, Mask of Truth (currently powerless)
Appearance: While being shorter than most other matoran, Suavo still mangaes to stand out in a crowd. His armour is black as midnight from his head to his feet, but slashes of colour run down his limbs and across his torso. These purple and gold highlights are each about the length of his hand, but only as wide as a finger or two. He wears a silver great-shaped kanohi rode.
Occupation: Suavo is a carnival performer. He sings, dances, and performs a variety of tricks for the entertainment of other matoran. He will be performing at the upcoming Red Star festival.
Description: Suavo is a lively and quick-witted little matoran, who lives very much in the moment.
He very much enjoys performing for other people, but almost even more, Suavo loves experiencing new things, be they places, people or activities. One drawback of this is that he can be an impulsive risk-taker. This is tempered, however, by his wide knowledge and understanding of the world that Suavo has gained by being so well travelled and having explored many parts of Kongero Nui through his role in the carnival. He has been around enough that whenever he gets into a sticky situation, he can remember a similar experience and how he got out of that one.
Tools: A wooden flute
Relationships: Suavo has connected briefly with many matoran over the course of his travels. Due to his itinerant nature, however, he sees most of them but rarely, and mostly socialises with his colleagues and whoever happens to be coming by the carnival.

Name: Kumanu
Gender: Male
Element: Ice
Mask: Kanohi Faxon, Mask of Kindred (currently powerless)

Appearance:Kumanu is a long-limbed Matoran in snowy white armour, save for his neck, hands and lower legs which are a clear, bright blue. His most distinguishing physical feature is the telescopic lens over the right eye of his noble-shaped faxon.

Occupation: Kumanu works for the Kongero Nui City Council as an animal control matoran. Wherever the rahi of an area are becoming a nuisance or even a danger, he comes in to catch them and rehome the offending animals to their natural habitats away from important infrastructure. This job ranges from blade burrowers digging through the mines of Onu-Congro to clearing out nests of lightning bugs on Vo-Congro. Mostly, however, he sticks to Ko-Congro and deals with ice bats and crystal climbers that try to set up colonies atop high buildings, often caving in rooftops in the process.

Description: Like most Ko-Matoran, Kumanu is a quiet type and prefers to think before he speaks, but underneath that frosty exterior, he has a big heart. He cares genuinely and deeply for his friends and his city, and he uses his colder rational side to help them be the best that they can be. He loves his job working with animals, and is patient, calm and gentle with them, though sometimes he must cause them some discomfort in the course of his job. Still, taking them out of dangerous areas will ultimately benefit both the rahi and the matoran of Kongero Nui, so he knows that his actions are justified. He is a good strategic thinker in this way – he can recognise the best course of action for benefits in the long term. Thinking for the future is, after all, the Ko-Matoran way.

Tools: Kumanu carries a kanoka disk launcher to help him deal with uncooperative rahi.

Relationships:
• Other PCs – see below
• One evening a week, he plays goalie for a local akilini team.
• Kumanu keeps a pet ice gafna named Matao

Wonderful. Good luck with that.

Let's get this thing started.

It will allow us to get the ball rolling into the beginning of the game, and hopefully act as a jump-start for those who have shown interest but not done anything else yet. In the first few days while the already established characters meet and greet, the others can get profiles drawn up. They won't miss too much there. If, on the other hand, they aren't actually going to join the game, waiting longer won't change that.

I'm excited to start RPing in this world, and my fingers are getting itchy.

There's always the Mask of Sensory Aptitude if you're going for far-sight, or achieve the same thing on any kanohi with one of these telescopic lenses like we saw on the akaku and matatu (though they could be fitted onto any type of mask).

Another way to see far-off things would be a kakama (by going there and back quickly).

To fit Hura's character, you could go for a mask of healing, since he works in an apothecary, or a sanok or mask of psychometry because of his meticulous nature.

Very well, I'll keep it as-is then. And just to let you know, Kumanu will be keeping his faxon through the transformation.
