Phoebe wished she could understand more than a few words in sign language. She stood. She still wasn't sure about Anthony. Then again, she wasn't sure about half of her classmates, because she hadn't spoken with them much. Perhaps she should take time to do that. She was pleased when Sue smiled, then looked around the room. Sue had to stay here? She went around, finding places where she could grow flowers, a room always looked better with flowers, she always thought. She remembered the pineapple in her pack, getting it out, along with her pocket knife which was clean, and cut the pineapple up. Homely activities done, Phoebe stood, waiting

Sue heard Phoebe cutting into the pineapples. Sue gestured a gentle smile at Phoebe. She liked pineapples; so sweet and sour, an excitement of flavours. She got 5 slices and stuffed them into her mouth at once. Her cheeks full, her mouth dripping in the juice, she reacting to the intensity of the flavours.

She nodded in thanks to Phoebe.
