You're missing the point. She's explaining why, historically/sociologically/anthropologically, Catholicism is a big melting pot of rituals and practices that seem to 'cloud' the message. It all makes sense given the compromises that had to be made to convert so many different cultures in Europe.

The trick to the game is coming up with a way to make it manageable to update regardless of how far along it is.
Maybe take some time to design basic units of action/status/whatever so you can just apply them as already-completed little units without having to painstakingly draw and edit new situations.
