Mali carried the back of the group, shutting the door to the front of the farm behind her. She almost stopped when her brain realized that I'm about to step into a limo. This wasn't right. Her life wasn't this. What the fuck was she doing? She wasn't rich, or some kid whose parents gave them enough money to make a flashy entrance to prom night. But she didn't let herself get caught up in the existential crisis her brain had thrown her into and managed to get all buckled up without issue. (Well it wasn't an existential crisis given that she wasn't questioning the purpose of life and despairing at the inherent futility of a transient existence in an infinite universe without some greater structure of morality with which to govern everything, but it was still something of a crisis.)

"If anyone doesn't need more ass-kickings, it's him. But if you're going to be spoiling me, does this make you my Sugar Mama?" Mali managed to shake off the feeling of utter wrongness in her gut just in time to catch onto the conversation. "Kind of odd for a whore to buy a service she provides on a regular basis," she teased. Idly, she noticed that Zoie's jacket was unbuttoned, which kind of irked her. Why button up the jacket if you're going to undo it as soon as you leave the house?
Clearly.
Apparently the guild considers 18 months to be 2 years.
Rest in Peace, Thomas.

"We could just bust our way in." A rather simplistic train of thought, but it had its merits. They had a couple of really beefy guys in the form of Keystone and the dwarf and she could transform into something big like a bear or ox if need be, so it wasn't like they lacked the muscle to just knock down the door. And chances were that nobody actually lived here, so any damage they did to this tower wouldn't be to anyone's detriment. And if anyone was residing in the tower, they were about to have a shitty day either way, That hole wasn't going to keep out the impending storm, so might as well cut down on all the decision making and just go the simple route. And Cyne would rather not be out in the open when that storm did roll in.

"Perhaps we ought to take a gander 'round the area afore we start breaking into places. We be dealing with a necromancer, aye? From me own experiences, if'n a spellcaster be holed up somewhere like this, they have some secret back door that they use. The front door looks a bit too shabby fer a'body that's throwing around hordes of skeletons." At least I wouldn't hole up somewhere with only a single entrance entrance and exit if it were me, Nor thought to himself. Having only one entrance to your lair was a rookie mistake. Sure there was only one way for your foes to come in, making it the most secure option but then there was no escape. Any wizard with enough power to command an army of undead should at least know that much. Then again, you never knew with those types.
Being the one stuck on the ship was a double edged sword. On one hand, you're not in mortal danger, which was a plus no matter who you were. Only adrenaline junkies and those with a death wish could enjoy that aspect of being a Framewerk pilot. In the moment there was a seductive excitement when your life was on the line, but that was always offset with relief as soon as you were out of that situation. Relief or pants shitting terror. It was a coin-flip between the two, really.

The other plus was that he had an outside perspective from which to view the rest of the mission. During the battles he always found himself unable to keep up with all the different things going on at once. He was too close, and had a habit of developing tunnel vision, which was probably more of a liability than his relative piloting skill. But for once he was able to more or less keep track of everything that had transpired after making sure Elise wasn't dead.

On the other hand, he couldn't help but feel useless. The last part of the mission wasn't suited to what he or Yeager could do. He knew that. Yeager was good in open spaces (or at least with enough room to maneuver) against infantry, or getting to and from places. He was one of the best choices for making sure that Elise got back alive. He knew this, but watching the rest of Squad Sigma finish the mission in such a spectacular fashion pissed him off even more. His team managed to actually strike back against the Cruxi and it felt like he had no part in the thing. Not to say that he wasn't excited when the base popped, or he wasn't cheering when X-7 and Paladin managed to get back onto the ship. He just couldn't shake that useless feeling at the pit of his stomach, and every moment it was there only served to make him angrier.

So there he was, hanging around the hangar, waiting for the rest of the squad to get out of their 'werks (not counting Devors. He was basically sprinting through the ship. No use trying to talk to him). So they could celebrate? Inform them about Elise's condition? Honestly he didn't know for what. But wait he did. From the looks of it, he would be waiting for awhile if Zim and Black Star were anything to go by.

Of course she would have taken the entire case onto herself; why would it be any other way? You had to make sure everyone knew how much more important you were than them. Any pleasure he may have derived from the case was flushed down the toilet, but he didn't let his professional exterior slip much. The sheriff did give him a potential lead, and that was a gesture of goodwill that he would be sure to not squander.

"Ah, I see. Well thank you regardless, Sheriff. Now if you'll excuse me." When he stepped out of the office, he noticed that the conversation between the FBI agent and that other girl had just come to a close. Perfect. This was a rare opportunity where she was unoccupied, so he could get the conversation over with. As he walked towards Jeanna, he jotted down a couple brief notes in the notepad he still had on hand.

FBI has the complete case file.
Check with the Walkers for possible access to private rooms.

"Kingsfield, Harry. Private Investigator." He offered a hand to Jeanna. Keep the introduction brief and to the point. She'd be able to figure out the rest on her own. Well, hopefully she would. The FBI wouldn't be so dumb as to hire complete nincompoops and shuttle them out to the rest of the country to interfere with actual investigation. Would they?
Alright Nal, since it's just you and me now I'm going to briefly put things on hold (maybe a couple days at most). From this point forward we can basically throw out all the rules since it's just us.

If you have any suggestions/comments/whatever go ahead and fire away.

"So yeah, entirely your idea."

"Dress actually, assuming that you can procure something for me by tonight. It'd be nice to get all prettied up for once."
The suit or dress question took Mali by surprise for a second. But it did make sense, she was fairly masculine in mannerism and dress, so it'd be easy to assume that she would simply prefer to wear a suit. That said, one doesn't get into bodybuilding and not care about their looks, and even though she'd be loathe to admit it, a big reason for choosing dress over suit is that she'd be able to show off her body. A suit would just cover all her hard work up.

"So is there anything you want me to do while at this party? Just schmooze everyone up? Sit there and act pretty? Create a wild cover story to cover your ass?" Mali wasn't exactly familiar with big fancy fundraising parties. She was pretty sure you either had to be rich or a politician for that to be the case. But it wasn't like she was some hoodrat or country bumpkin who'd never heard of a black tie event. As long as she wasn't asked to do anything too involved, she was pretty sure she'd be able to bullshit her way through any boring dinner. Hopefully.
