Although Mali was no longer panicking in her head, she couldn't stop her heart from pounding against her rib cage the way a spurned lover would beat the door of their former sweetheart's abode. But that she could deal with, the purely physical rush from being in a potentially stressful and dangerous situation, she dealt with it all the time in the gym and on stage. In these types of situation you needed to keep a level head, control your breathing, and then push forward with everything you had. Mali had two of the three down, so all that was left was to finally get out of the car.

Carefully, Mali stepped out of the car, doing her best to make sure the dress didn't drag on the ground. Internally, she cursed herself for picking a gown with two slits in the skirt. It showed off her legs sure, but it was a hassle keeping all that fabric from making contact with the ground without being unnecessarily rough with the very expensive garment.

Once she was outside of the vehicle and on two feet, she moved herself next to Zoie, put on a confident smile and looked around at the crowd of party-goers. Among the faces she recognized basically nobody there. Perhaps if she was more into politics and celebrity some faces would stand out, but as it was they were all just a bunch of strangers to her. Just as well, the last thing she needed was to have her focus shattered because she spotted Dillweed Wigwham who happened to star in that newest show on STV.

Now that she was here, Mali found herself wondering what kind of party this actually was. Were they attending a formal dinner party? Some kind of meet and greet? An occult Eyes Wide Shut goat sacrificing Black Mass? Or worst of all, a potluck? (Mali didn't see anyone carrying food with them, so chances were that she was safe from this particular option) Was she actually told what this party would be? She couldn't help but feel like someone mentioned what the type of party was during breakfast, but for the life of her, she couldn't remember. Whatever, the only thing that would probably change among all those different options is how much food she'd be able to not eat. At the moment all she needed to focus on was maintaining her physical projection of the ideal of Venus she was keeping in her head and following Zoie's lead.

Somehow, Cyne had managed to move past Satilla on the staircase leading to the third floor. A few seconds ago she had been fairly certain that it was impossible given her greatly enhanced bulk, yet here she was. Not that she was going to complain. Whatever it was on that top floor, she was certain that the healer should not be the first one to reach the top, if only to minimize the chances of her being gravely wounded by some attack she didn't see coming and that she didn't have the skill to avoid or fortitude to resist.

The bear made its way up the staircase to find something that made her very glad that she had come up first: a giant, demonic looking centipede. Lots of other things were moving in her periphery, but Cyne had neither the time nor patience to try figuring out any of that when there was a perfectly good target right in front of her. The bear reared back and with a powerful bear roar put in a full-body swipe against the centipede. The bear's paw crushed through exoskeleton and sent all sorts of internal fluids this way and that, covering it in even more gore. If the hide was canvas rather than black fur, at this point it would look like a bloody Jackson Pollock painting. However impressive the blow was, it failed to put down the over-sized bug, but it wouldn't take much more to put it under.

"That's what being distracted is," Gio corrected her as he made his way across the room. As he walked, he stopped to pick up the caramels he had accidentally assaulted Nancy with and threw them away into one of the waste bins he had tucked away in convenient, but out of the way locations around the room. Once he made it to his desk, he pulled from a draw an index card and jotted down a reminder for the two of them (but mostly Nancy) to tell Eve about the reading she had had about the cat in Justice. The closest thing to a reaction he gave the lightning bolt and thunder was a couple blinks. He probably should go find the Paradoxes before they got too wrapped up in discovering their new lives. But before he left, he walked back over to the bedside where Nancy's garments lay.

Third time's the charm? Gio was resolved to not make such a poor showing twice in a row and leave it at that. Luckily he'd left the clothes open enough so that he could simply reach inside the pocket and fetch another candy. Given that the last two times he'd hit her in the nose, he figured that he would go for a more shallow arc. However, this time when he went for the throw, he underestimated how much force to put into the toss, and it ended up falling short of Nancy's position entirely. He stared at it blankly for a few seconds, and then left the room without a word. Had any other onlookers been there they likely could have and would have mentally inserted any number of emotions in there.

After a bit of searching, he managed to track down where Alicia and some of the Paradoxes seemed to be gathered (notably missing Eve and Gilbert). As he approached, Gio steeled himself for all sorts of tomfoolery, but still did his best to put on a winning smile. No need to introduce himself with antagonism. That would come later.

[color=cca78e]"Salutations, everyone,"[color] he called out with a big wave. "I've no doubts that you all have been given the briefing on your general situation by this point. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Giosue Zino, known as the watch. Gio or "Joe" will do if your tongue can't quite wrap itself around Italian. And who all might you be?" He needed to find Gil and/or Eve, but pleasantries and introductions must be attended to properly. So he was likely stuck here for a bit.
Now that I've actually read through this, I feel like I can throw in interest now

Nor smirked at the Hooded Figure's words behind the faceplate of his armor. Mages were always full of big talk when things were going their ways, but as soon as their reality rewriting trickery was stripped of them, their tune changed to a pleading babe. Of particular note for the dwarf was how as soon as he had the chance, he got as far away as he possibly could from them. His words and actions contradicted, and the dwarf was looking forward to seeing that smug look wiped off his face.

That said, there were like 7 different beasts standing in between him and the robed faggot, including one of which that had the nerve to bite him. His first instinct was to lash out against is and stab it, but given the numbers of the situation, such a course of action would be unwise. When outnumbered like this, the bes course of action was to coordinate and try to take out as many enemies possible, one at a time. If you could reduce their numbers by even one, the momentum would begin to swing against them, and the easier it would become. So he stepped forward towards the great snake and took a couple stabs at it, the first one getting little better than a glancing blow, but the second hitting deeper. It'd take more to bring it down, but it was a start.

As they got closer and closer to the building, Mali found anxiety building within her over how well she'd be able to handle herself during the night. She sure hadn't had a stellar record so far, and the new venue brought on a lot of pressure on her to not fuck up. Who knew how closely people would be paying attention to make sure that she maintained the charade for hours on end. What was she even doing here in the first place? There were like 5 different ways she should have never been allowed past the gates. Sure she looked the part now, but that was just a mask to make her somewhat acceptable to those at the party, yet here she was now and there was no going back.

Internally, Mali slapped herself. Freaking out now would only make everything she was worrying about come to fruition. She needed to calm the fuck down and properly get herself into the correct mind space to come off as the goddess she needed to portray herself as. But what goddess would she use as a base, the historian in her head chimed. Actually a question worth considering, considering she had very little time left to mentally prepare, and how she left this limo would set the tone for the rest of the night.

Juno was the first thing that came to mind. It would be fitting, given the context, but she rejected it almost immediately. She was too bitchy for Mali to seriously want to model her behavior after her. Minerva was another good choice, wise, tactical and well-rounded. But she was also a virgin and unlike her Greek counterpart, not so much the valiant warrior. Venus would certainly be able to slide through a social situation easily, and her supernatural beauty would certainly help out with other matters that her mind wouldn't entirely let sit in the back of her head. Yes, yes that would do nicely. If there was one thing this group needed, it was the confidence to grasp success tonight, and she would do her best to embody the Goddess of Victory. Amidst this articulation of her plan of action, the historian part of her chided her for only thinking of the Roman pantheon, but she was under pressure, that it was enough to get her to where she needed to go.

"Everyone ready?"

The way that the girl described her own outburst raised a red flag for Harry. Dismissing one's own emotions as "typical teen drama" when you were a teenager as well indicated that either she had some seriously messed up emotional issues that she was suppressing (something he understood far too well), or that she was lying, and the outburst was a way to cover up something else that was going on right then. He didn't have enough information at hand to adequately estimate which was the truth, but he wasn't going to let her go so easily without finding out.

For the time being, he'd follow this conversation and follow her gaze like a hawk. People had a habit of giving away what they were really thinking with their gaze, especially if they weren't practiced in trying to conceal their emotions. The way her eyes flitted across the room indicated to him that she was looking for something else to deal with other than the conversation currently at hand. Understandable. But it could also mean she was looking for answers elsewhere. Still not enough information for him to properly interpret what he had seen and heard so far. The one thing he was certain of was that she was up to something that she wasn't telling him.

"But why were you here, in an active crime scene?" Harry asked with a quirked eyebrow. He had spent enough time in the force to know when someone being interrogated was trying to avoid talking so he outright ignored Jenna's own question. She had no real authority in this situation, he didn't need to justify himself to a teenaged intern. And he was certain that anyone who she could take this to who would have higher authority would more readily take his side over hers without some deliberate misrepresentation of the facts.

Well if at first you don't succeed... Gio turned back around and carefully unfolded her clothes again so he could have access to it. He dug around for yet another caramel, but this time left Nancy's normal outfit strategically undone, in case he messed up the throw again. Again, he did a practice swing once, twice, three times and when he threw it this time it traveled in an identical arc as the time prior with the same results: a caramel chew on the floor. At this rate he'd end up with his room reupholstered by candies. The thought of all the dirt and hair tracking in and sticking to the candy made his shiver in disgust.

Failure to throw candy aside, having to watch Nancy try to shuffle her deck to suddenly perform a reading reminded him why he wanted to put off the restraints to the very last moment. He really hoped she didn't have the urge to sit down and check the future while she was off alone in California. It would be wildly inconvenient at the least.

As far as the reading itself went, Gio listened, but he wasn't particularly enraptured. The personal histories of the Paradoxes rarely interested him all that much. For one, he just didn't care; his attention was not held by the subject. He could control what he liked, that's just how it was. And after meeting so many of these people, it was rare for somebody to have something out there enough to catch him by surprise. Boy had family issues, died, now they needed to find his cat and get a trinket. Done.

"Focus Nancy," Gio directed when she brought up going to tell Eve about her reading. It was so simple to distract the Emendator at times, that he somehow wondered how she managed to get anything done. "We will need to tell Evelina about this, but our goal at the moment is to pull off this prank. Do not lose sight of our target now. That said, I'll jot down a reminder so as to keep this little detail from slipping our mind during the fun."
Cyne

Location: Tower 2F
Interacting with:Satilla technically

There weren't many times Cyne found herself desperately wishing that she was not a bear, but the body she had assumed lacked the ability to properly express any of the emotions that she had to deal with since arriving on this floor. Just when she had started to calm down from the insult delivered to her by the undead lying in the bed, Satilla comes by and drops the bomb that Kyra was dead. Cyne didn't know the ranger very well, but she kind of liked her, and the fact that she was dead because of some summoned beast made her just a smidgen absolutely livid.

Unlike Satilla and Nor before her that were primarily chasing after Sana so she didn't charge into sure death, Cyne dashed ahead for similar reasons as the bard: so she could do horrible things to that damn necromancer who caused all this. What she lacked in a long-standing emotional bond and years of friendship she made up with violent animal instinct and a whole lot more muscle to apply in the service of gratuitous violence. It would be the only way for her to grieve while in this form in this tower. However, before she could get to that, she found herself stuck behind the witch halfway to the third floor. Despite being a smaller species of bear, she was still a bear, and there just wasn't room to try squeezing past anyone. The only way to get ahead of her would be to trample the witch, and even now, Cyne knew that was just bad manners.

Well, it seemed that nobody picked up on the bit of info she'd purposefully left out of that little tease. and took it literally. But at this point trying to go back and explain that they'd misunderstood her would be a waste of time akin to the cardinal sin of explaining a joke. Relic probably had had enough teasing already, so he really didn't need her brow-beating him over his bad luck at socializing with women.

"Weird place for a party." Why place a last minute venue change for a political evening party to some research complex? Certainly didn't look the part for a place of festivities. What, were the drinks going to be served in laboratory 2-A? Then she remembered the trip to the Justice Archives yesterday, and how Queensguard had had its fingers throughout the city for decades and was almost certainly connected to Juno. She couldn't remember if Zoie or Relic had outright stated it as such, but she didn't really need it.

But this was another thing that didn't seem right to Mali from the position of "If I were in control of this conspiracy, what would I do." She didn't know what this party meant in the larger scheme of things, but she could see why holding an important event within one's own court would be highly advantageous in maintaining the order of things.

However, for something as seemingly innocuous as a dinner party, such precautions wouldn't be necessary unless you were expecting something to go horribly wrong. But then moving it directly into your field carried a lot of unnecessary risk. If something did go wrong tonight, especially after taking a heretofore "unrelated" event to an unfitting location the blame for the even would at least partially be placed on Queensguard for not providing proper security, diminishing the reputation of your own cover company. But then again, the grander maneuverings around this party were irrelevant for what she's supposed to be doing here: acting as a cover. She would just need to make sure that she stayed alert and didn't slip up.
