In Brightest Day, in Blackest Night
You are Green Lanterns- the universe's self appointed superpowered space cops, founded and led by the mysterious "Guardians". Armed with power rings that give physical form to nearly anything you can imagine- restricted only by your creativity and willpower- it's your job to police your assigned Sector against intergalactic space pirates, supervillains, robotic invasions, angry demi-gods, space-time paradoxes, and whatever else life throws your way.
Using the super simple Risus gaming system you'll create a Lantern of any age, gender, and species (I'm open to practically anything you want to make up) and then choose the clichés that form your characters strengths, and the abilities of your ring. For example, a "Space Cop Bruiser (5)" would be able to punch the hell out of bad guys using giant green glowing fists all day, but may have a harder time negotiating his way out of a ticket. A "Friendly Neighborhood Lantern (4)" may find it easier to make friends and convince new allies to join them in their quest to restore peace and justice to the Sector, and slap space cuffs on people. Clichés are limited only by your imagination (and some small degree of reason) and a well rounded team may be crucial to success against the forces of evil! Difficulty checks and combat rolls will be made using the forums built in dice system.
In this RP, the players would form a band of Green Lanterns and face down some major existential threat to the universe in a campy comic-style one shot reminiscent of the golden age. It's a freewheeling, casual superhero RP with a splash of dice for randomness sake, ripe with potential for wild action, tense moments, and bouts of hilarity (especially if the dice go south). Very little knowledge of the DCU is required, and Canon supporting characters will be kept to a minimum. The timeline is non-specific and unrelated to any major DCU events. You need only have a basic understanding of who and what lanterns are, and what fun is. Creating a character within the game system is surprisingly simple and bare bones- see below for an example. Bio's are easily expanded upon and characters developed in game and- just like the comics- easily retconned.
Example Character:
Name: Rocky
Bio: A genetically modified and cybernatically enhanced Raccoon, "Rocky" managed to escape captivity and dismantle the sinister government program that created him. He became a bounty hunter on his homeworld of Betulgese Prime until his power ring chose him, and he became the guardian of Sector 2810. Crotchety and ill tempered on the outside, the Raccoon has a heart of gold, and has found a new family in the Green Lantern Corps- the first family he's ever had. He takes his job seriously, and is known for the elaborate weapon constructs he creates with his ring.
