Welcome to Pemberton Children’s Home, an institute dedicated to looking after and re-homing children who have no where left to go. I am Charles Pemberton and I’d like to show you around.

We mostly take in teenagers as we find that our staff are better suited to look after children of this age range. This is why you are being brought here! We believe we can look after you better than anyone else can. We don’t have many rules here, young one, aside from the usual ‘treat people how you want to be treated’ et cetera. But the one rule I must, must enforce is that this door remains locked at all times. You must not attempt to enter this door. You must not make someone else attempt to enter this door. It is forbidden. You will be happier here if you simply pretend it does not exist.

Ever heard of the saying ‘curiosity killed the cat’? Well, it’s a good rule to live by.

Our excellent team of carers are nuns, so you will refer to them as ‘Sister’ okay? The head nun is referred to as Mother, but I will let her introduce herself when she is ready. I must go now for I am a very busy man, I trust you will remember my rule? Good. I hope you enjoy your stay- this is your home now.

Rules
1. No one enters the door without my permission. If you want to attempt then feel free, but finish the post with them trying and you don’t know if they’ve succeeded yet. I will write a replying post telling you if the door is locked, or you get caught etc.
2. Please no one liners- these ruin the flow of the story and make it harder to reply to. A short paragraph will suffice (especially during interaction, I know it’s hard to write much when you’re waiting for someone to reply to what your character has said)
3. Try your best to use correct grammar and spelling, obviously mistakes are fine but if the whole post is messed up it becomes hard to understand.
4. No controlling other people’s characters
5. No sex please, this is an orphanage not a brothel :P Take it to PM if you must

Daily Routine [+]

7:30 am = Breakfast

8:30-11:30am = Lessons

12:30pm = Lunch

1:30-3:30pm = Lessons

6:00pm = Dinner

10:00pm = Lights out

I've introduced this timetable so the orphans aren't running around all over the place and we can sort of synchronise what we are doing :) Meal times are always the same although lessons are only on weekdays. Lets assume the story starts on a Sunday to make it easier. We don't have to keep track of the exact days, but whoever posts first on a new day (mentions their character waking up) should just mention whether or no there are lessons on that day. I hope this makes sense...

Bio: Not much is known about Charles, he only shows up at the orphanage to show the new children around, mostly to reinforce his rule about the door. Mystery surrounds this man like a fog as he evades all personal questions. The only detail he gives away is that he started the orphanage because of his daughter- but no one knows why.

Evangeline Patton [+]

Name: Evangeline Patton

Why are you an orphan?: Her parents worked together in a physics research facility when they were killed in a blast caused by an equipment failure. Evangeline was 8 years old.
Bio: Evangeline is a sweet girl, seemingly perfect for adoption, however the first orphanage she was sent to was an all girls facility fraught with abuse. Eva won’t talk about it and it has left her distrustful of the world. When she was brought to Pemberton, she trusted the carers because they are nuns- she believes no religious follower would ever hurt her. However when visitors come to adopt her personality changes. She won’t let them touch her, she ignores them when she is spoken to and if they persist she will yell at them to leave her alone. This is why she hasn't yet been adopted. Pemberton is perfect for her as they have their own school room for the children to attend, so she doesn't have to interact with any other adults other than the nuns.
She likes to be called Eva, but never Ev.

Fredrick ??? [+]

Appearance: Is very tall maybe even 5 foot 11. although is very skinny and hungry looking. Has no clothing besides his t-shirt which says "ACDC" and some beaten up jeans
If you are an orphan, why are you?: Fredrick has no idea why he is an orphan. He doesn't even remember his past.
Bio: Fredrick is very angry young boy, who tries to stay by himself, though the lure of other people is enough to bring him to speak up. When he was brought to Pemberton when the police found him wandering the streets.

If you are an orphan, why are you? As far as he knows his parent were killed by a mugger when he was 13.
Bio (including personality): He was always a nerdy geeky kid, his favorite nerd subject is space, he is farely awkward normally, he is especially awkward around girls. He was relatively pampered when his parents were alive. He has been at the Pemberton Children’s Home for four years now, he has always been curious of what's behind the door he was close to seeing it once but then Mary Eunice caught him before he could.

Claire Butler [+]

If you are an orphan, why are you? Her parents were diplomats killed on a return flight home from Europe. Though foul play was supposed a formal investigation was never opened.
Bio: Claire was a sweet child growing up, forever interested in how the world worked. Neither of her parents had a large family so Claire made do with her parents and the handful of friends they brought back with them from their foreign adventures. Claire never learned how to make such acquaintances herself, her frequent moves with her parents never left much opportunity for lasting relations. None of this ever bothered Claire though, the glittering lights of Paris and the sounds of New York drowned any sadness that may have emerged.
When Claire's parents died, she was 14. Confused embassies argued back and forth on what to do with the child. They settled on sending her away and simply forgetting her. Upon her arrival at Pemberton she had become a different person. She was quite, more timid, all fiery passion dying with her parents.

If you are an orphan, why are you? (This can be discovered during the rp if you wish): Mother died at birth, at the age of three Rascals dad passed away from cancer, He was sent to live with his uncle whom abused him and was eventually taken away at the age of 11 and moved from one orphanage to another and then finally settled in the nuns orphanage *Explained below*
Bio (including personality): Because of the abuse he is currently in therapy and has attempted suicide multiple times he also used to be a mute but now talks a little, He hates people touching him and finds it difficult to be around males at his first orphanage he was kicked out after attempting suicide his second was an all boys and he had a panic attack and lock himself in a room for days without eating, a social worker had to get the police to take him out he then ran away and was found half dead and starved at the base of a river a week later. Then after a year in a mental hospital (when he was 13) he was placed in to the orphanage and is currently still being treated. He also smokes and has self harmed in the past :D woop for messed up character
He is shy and will sometimes spend days in his room without eating, The nuns leave food for him outside the door and he eventually eats it, whenever visitors or new people come he avoids them until he is persuaded to meet them. He rarely talks to anyone he hasn't know for a long time and has panic attacks when he gets touched. He also suffers from nightmares but is on medication.

Shin Hinomiya [+]

If you are an orphan, why are you?: Was abandoned by his parents at the age of one. Was living on the streets until picked up at the age of thirteen.
Bio: Shin isn't one to talk about his past, considering it's not a very happy story after all. He has no memory of his parents or any family, or even if he ever had any to begin with. One thing he does know however, is where he originally came from, that being far across vast seas on the shores of Kyoto, Japan. Having been found wandering those streets and taken in by a couple, before then being transferred to Pemberton Children’s Home two weeks later at the age of twelve. Having to learn how to speak their language, it became clear that Shin wasn't just your normal fast learner. Despite two years later being discovered as some what of a genius, still no one comes anywhere near him. Shin is known as the troublemaker of the group, always making it harder for the sisters to deal with him. He can be very kind when he wants to be, but that in itself is rare as this young man wants nothing more than to be out of as he calls it 'this god forsaken hell'. Being a naturally curious person, he has tried to open the door quite a few times in his five year stay, all times having to leave due to nearly getting caught. It is very very hard to anger this young man, Shin as far as the sister's say never having started shouting or yelling in anger throughout his whole time here, however, when or if it does happen. The male normally reverts to his mother tongue of Japanese, this includes when being frustrated, annoyed or generally irritated as well.

If you are an orphan, why are you? (This can be discovered during the rp if you wish): She has some secrets she cannot tell.... not now anyway, there's no-one to trust...
Bio (including personality): To sum Evelyn up- her most treasured possession is the key to her dorm.
Evelyn's past has effected her emotionally. She is timid and prefers to be alone. She has anorexia and is very unsociable. If she ever does talk, she doesn't say much. She is trying to get her head around who she can trust and who she can't. She has insomnia from all the tragic thoughts of the past that flood her head when she tries to sleep. This means she is usually weak and shaky. She blames herself for everything she has done.
Evelyn hates crowded spaces and treasures being alone. She is usually locked in her room, silent, her dreaded thoughts blooming. Some of the Sisters think she will soon become crazy. She thinks she is crazy already.

Tristan Masne [+]

If you are an orphan, why are you?: His father died in the 9/11 attacks and his mother died of heart-break, quite literally. She was so depressed from the incident, she had a heart attack.
Bio: Tristan remembers it clearly- too clearly? He isn't sure.
He was coming to pick up his father from the first of the twin towers- his father worked as an insurance salesman at the time. He got out the car and walked through the front door. He heard a huge explosion. Running, he made it back to the car and he and his mother managed to escape, yet his father didn't. However, Tristan was left deaf because of the blaring explosion. When his mother died, Tristan hid away, unnoticed by the social services. He became very malnourished and knew he wouldn't live if he didn't consult the local orphanage. He was taken in. Although he is deaf, he can understand people from reading their lips. He is really outgoing and treasures friendship, loyal and thoughtful.

NPCs [+]

There will be three sisters involved in caring for the children- each will have their own personality and will be NPCs so anyone can include them in their posts :)

Sister Mary Lawrence- Very strict, follows rules/orders rigidly and isn’t particularly child-friendly

Sister Mary Eunice- Very quiet, keeps mostly to herself and spends most of her day in the kitchen preparing everyone’s meals. She is nice when spoken to though.

Sister Mary Robert- Very friendly, the one the children go to when they need advice or help.

They all have Mary in common because they are from the same order of nuns.
