Current Laptop has suspiciously decided to have hard-drive failure two weeks after the warranty expired, so no RPing for me!

Just so you know, this RP is definitely still on. Please don't take my quietness as a cue to leave! I've actually written most of the first IC post, but I've been busy. I can't see it being up before Wednesday because between now and then I have: A laser-quest tournament; a date; a house party; my last ever piece of university work to submit; and I'm moving back home.

Just out of interest though, could you please post something here to show that you're still alive and wanting to participate. A simple hello will suffice :)

This meshes really well with what I had in mind, actually. I was thinking Florine would have a centralized society, a lodge or academy or what have you, that had a virtual monopoly on the training and control of the state's magicians. They'd be very secretive, be really steeped in ancient tradition and ritual, with roots stretching all the way back to antiquity.

Naturally this sort of organization isn't going win many friends among the devout of either major faith, but it's managed to maintain its place in Florine politics and society as the safer alternative to magicians being dispersed around the country and largely out of the public eye.

So the character I had in mind, while firstly being a wizard would also be a scholar, having been essentially raised within this mystery cult-esque academy.

This sounds fine to me. The only thing I would say is that because the country is essentially a COL country, magic would really be disliked, as you acknowledged yourself. This would mean that any magic organisation would either be incredibly secret (as in the public wouldn't even really know about them) or it would be regulated and overlooked by the Church (think Templars in Dragon Age). At least, those are two possible scenarios that I can think of. My advice would be to submit a CS here, but PM me some more about your ideas for Florine so we can throw some ideas about without clogging up the OOC.

Note: I'm quite tired now, so any responses I give may or may not be awful :P

P.S. I know you said they would be 'secretive' anyway, but there is a difference between secretive and secret.
Falkreach isn't confirmed as the source, it's just the first 'civilised' place that it was spotted. The infected haven't degraded much over seven weeks because I'm Batman magic. That said, you're right to say that the further North you go the less there will be and the weaker they will be too; but at this point players will have to contend with the environment and other threats >:D
I don't think the cannibals are particularily fast are they :p

"These infected are more akin to the type of zombies you see in 28 Days, rather than Shaun of the Dead. The stronger and faster the host, the more dangerous they are once infected. They are most dangerous when they first become aggressive, as they are in peak condition and still have a moderate degree of intelligence. They do seem to whither over time, but they sustain strength due to the magic and through eating when they can. They are able to take a lot of punishment and the only sure way to take them down so far has been by destroying the brain or by using magic."

Don't underestimate the infected or you will get your ass handed to you!

...what's left of it anyway.
Hey, I had a character in mind. How would you feel about a wizard? And in particular a foreign one? Perhaps from Florine, which was mentioned in the Kingdom of Dawn description as a neighbor? I had some backstory and motivations that I'd thought of.

Sure... unless other players appear and quickly snatch up the last couple of spots. Hurry! :P

Just a quick bit of info about the State Of Florine. There is no monarchy, but rather a senate; very much like ancient Rome. Though it's not in the Northern Lands, it's certainly not a hot country (think of Dawn as like North England/Scotland climate, and Vasili as like Norway climate). Religion would be mostly COL (at least 60% COL). Of course feel free to fill in the gaps and add lore.
I had a remark: I read somewhere (I think the bestiary) that the man you made killed a dragon, but I thought to myself that can't be right, since lady Buxton is the dragonhuntress right? Was that intended? Did they both kill dragons?

In the 'Notable Events' tab it says:

40 25 years ago the last confirmed dragon seen in the Kingdom was slain by Richard 'The Bear' Buxton. As the Kingdom has grown and it's armies become more deadly, dragons have appeared less and less. Some people say they have continued to see dragons in the mountains, the Far North and the Grey Islands, but nothing has been verified.

Lady Buxton is his daughter, but she was only about 5 years old when the last seen dragon was killed. The vast majority of people in the Northern Lands (at least as far as the Kingdom of Vasili is concerned) will not have seen a dragon in their lifetime.

Also, seems like a good chance to clarify a point: 'The Northern Lands' encompasses everything on the map in the wiki, including the Kingdom of Dawn. Dawnish people still refer to those across the channel as Northerners, just as the people of Vasili refer to the tribesmen as Northerners. But they are all Northerners as far as the bigger picture is concerned. After all, the world of Olympus is roughly the same size as Earth and the Kingdom of Vasili is only roughly the size of Spain+Portugal. I should really incorporate this information into the wiki somehow...
Annoying moment when you find a picture of someone that suites your character perfectly, only to realise that you probably subconsciously based your character almost off them. Oh well, Lady Buxton will be on the CS list by the end of the night.

Also, is there any post or CS that I haven't yet responded to? I can be really forgetful :P
The plague has quickly been working its way down from the far North, causing masses of people to desperately retreat south. The origin is unknown, but priests seem to think it’s been caused by dark magic, rather than nature. The plague was first sighted in Falkreach seven weeks ago, and the main horde has just reached Minorhold. There are however infected all over the place, but in much smaller numbers (for now).

I'll provide more clarity once the RP starts (or when I'm next back at my laptop if I cba :P).
Probably in a week or so. I want to get this started asap, but I've still got a bit more to work through and I've been held up by RL.
Are you guys still looking for people to join?

Still got a couple of spaces left :)
